Police close Praful Patel impersonation case against Mumbai hotelier
Ravi Kant reportedly used Patel's display picture (DP) on WhatsApp to make his demands. Patel had filed a complaint last year.
Police submitted a 'C' summary report (when the case is neither true nor false and the case was filed due to mistake of facts), stating that that no criminal offence had occurred and whatever happened was due to misunderstanding, particularly because Kant was a long-time admirer and fan of Patel and put his picture on his WhatsApp profile.

The complaint was filed on July 20 by Patel's personal assistant, who found through a party worker that a WhatsApp account using a mobile number had displayed a profile picture of the MP dressed in a white shirt and black jacket, along with the name 'Praful Patel'.
Inspector Abhijeet Sonawane led the team that obtained the call detail record (CDR), subscriber detail record (SDR), and IP data related to the number, which was in the name of Kant, a 34-year-old restaurant manager from Juhu.

Kant told the police that after his father's death he wanted to set up a hotel business and had no bad intentions.
Kant admitted to using Patel's photo on his WhatsApp profile. He explained that he was a long-time admirer of the MP, particularly for his contributions as civil aviation minister from 2004 to 2011. He told the police that Patel had been a role model for him since his father's death and that he followed him closely on social media, never intending to impersonate or misuse his identity.
In the closure report, the police have attached statements from Kant's family and co-workers supporting his claim, confirming he harboured genuine respect for Patel and had no malicious intent.

'Fighting alone': Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol rearrested; concerns over evidence destruction risk
Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol (Image credits: AP) Former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol was detained for a second time on Thursday and placed in solitary confinement as investigations continue into allegations of insurrection. Yoon is accused of attempting to subvert civilian rule by declaring martial law on December 3 and deploying armed soldiers to parliament to prevent lawmakers from rejecting the declaration. The incident triggered a major political crisis in South Korea. He was first arrested in January after resisting detention for weeks, using his presidential security team to block investigators. That arrest made him the first sitting president in South Korean history to be taken into custody. He was later released in March on procedural grounds, though his trial on insurrection charges remained ongoing. Following his impeachment in April, confirmed by the Constitutional Court, Yoon refused to comply with multiple summons from investigators. Authorities then sought a second detention, citing concerns he would destroy evidence. A judge at the Seoul Central District Court approved the latest arrest early Thursday. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like เปรียบเทียบสเปรด: ระหว่าง Bitcoin และ Ethereum CFDs IC Markets อ่านเพิ่มเติม Undo Yoon, 64, was then moved to a detention center near Seoul, where he will remain in solitary confinement for up to 20 days while prosecutors prepare formal charges. If indicted, he could be held for up to six additional months. "Once Yoon is indicted, he could remain detained for up to six months following indictment," said Yun Bok-nam, president of Lawyers for a Democratic Society, while talking to AFP. "Theoretically, immediate release is possible, but in this case, the special counsel has argued that the risk of evidence destruction remains high, and that the charges are already substantially supported," he added. On Wednesday, Yoon attended a seven-hour hearing where he denied all charges. He told the court he was 'fighting alone' and that his legal team was under pressure, with lawyers withdrawing one by one. "One by one my lawyers are stepping away, and I may soon have to fight this alone," said Yoon as quoted by AFP. Yoon's lawyers argued the detention was unnecessary, noting he no longer holds any official power. However, prosecutors pointed to the risk of evidence destruction and the seriousness of the charges. Investigators recently questioned Yoon about his resistance during the failed arrest in January and allegations that he authorised drone flights to Pyongyang to justify martial law. He also faces charges of falsifying official documents tied to the martial law attempt. The former President has defended his actions, saying martial law was necessary to eliminate pro–North Korean and anti-state elements. But the Constitutional Court called his actions a 'betrayal of people's trust' and a 'denial of the principles of democracy.' Current President Lee Jae Myung, elected in June, has approved special investigations into Yoon's declaration of martial law and other criminal allegations involving his administration and wife.

ICE facility attack: Blue alert sent for military veteran suspected in shooting
Representative image Blue alert has been issued in Texas as authorities continue their search for a 12th suspect in what officials describe as a July 4 'ambush' at the ICE detention facility in Alvarado, Fox4 reported. Benjamin Hanil Song of Dallas faces six pending charges for allegedly opening fire on two correctional officers and an Alvarado police officer during the Prairieland detention center ambush. The suspect, a former US Marine Corps Reservist of five years, allegedly used two AR-15-style rifles to fire at three officers during the ambush. Moreover, the FBI has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to Song's arrest. What is Blue alert? A Blue alert is a public safety notification system used to help locate and apprehend suspects who have seriously injured or killed a law enforcement officer. Much like Amber or Silver alerts, it leverages broadcast and digital platforms to quickly inform the public and encourage tips that may lead to an arrest. To issue a Blue alert, specific conditions must be met: a law enforcement officer must have been killed or critically injured; the suspect must pose a serious threat to the public or other officers; and there must be identifying information such as a vehicle description or license plate that can be shared widely. 'Any unilateral move will face a response': President Lula hits back after Trump imposes 50% tariff on Brazil; warns of reciprocal action
US President Donald Trump (left) and Brazilian President Lula Da Silva (right) (AP images) Brazil on Wednesday (local time) warned that it will take reciprocatory actions against US after Donald Trump announced a new 50% tariff on Brazilian goods, escalating tensions between the two countries. "In light of the public statement by US President Donald Trump posted on a social media platform this Wednesday afternoon (9), it is important to emphasise: Brazil is a sovereign nation with independent institutions that will not accept being dictated to by anyone," Brazilian president Lula Da Silva said in a post on X. . "The claim regarding an alleged US trade deficit in the commercial relationship between Brazil and the United States is false. Statistics from the US government itself confirm a surplus for that country in the trade of goods and services with Brazil, amounting to 410 billion dollars over the past 15 years. In this regard, any unilateral measure to increase tariffs will be met with a response in accordance with Brazilian Economic Reciprocity Law," he added. Trump imposed tariffs in response to his support for former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro , who is facing charges for trying to stage a coup against present government. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like An engineer reveals: One simple trick to get internet without a subscription Techno Mag Learn More Undo "In Brazil, freedom of expression is not to be confused with aggression or violent practices.
