Chittoor gears up for Yoga Day fete, 9 lakh likely to participate
Addressing the media here on Friday (June 20), District Collector Sumit Kumar stressed on the need for proper planning and prompt execution of the event.
Lauding the officials, NGOs, and public groups for the State-led 'Yogandhra 2025' campaign, the Collector urged officials not to lose momentum and ensure that each venue has adequate facilities, with top priority to drinking water, snacks, toilets, and medical camps.
Mr. Kumar instructed the officials to mobilise the yoga participants based on the capacity of each venue. He said that the public address systems, photo, and videography were mandatory, and the footage should be uploaded on the official app by 10 am of the same day.
The Collector directed the special officers at the mandal level, municipal commissioners, and MPDOs, to participate and oversee arrangements. He said that the public representatives from village to district levels should be formally invited to give a fillip to the event.
The programme will be held at the Mesanical Grounds from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. The Collector said that Yoga instructors will be posted at all the venues to guide the participants.

From collecting Gangajal from Sultanganj, he covers the journey on foot in 24 hours. Speaking to TOI, Kumar said, "I have been attending Baba's court every month for the last 33 years to thank Him for giving me everything in life." A resident of Krishnapuri Mohalla at Matwari area, Kumar said he came to Hazaribag from Bihar Sharif about 30 years ago and set up a shop with only Rs 30,000. Today, the shop is now one of the biggest shops. "My daughter, Pooja Prakash, is a surgeon, and son, Avinav Prakash, and daughter-in-law, Kumari Monika, are engineers. All my wishes have been fulfilled by Mahadev. Hence, I offer Gangajal on the Shivling in Deoghar on full moon every month," he said. Kumar said that every month, he goes to Sultanganj on a Saturday to collect Gangajal, and reaches the temple on foot from there in 24 hours. Kumar's wife, Sunita Devi, said, "Even at this age, if he is able to walk that long, it is only due to the god's blessings."

NEET UG State Counselling Schedule 2025: The Medical Counselling Committee has announced the NEET-UG 2025 counselling and admission schedule for all rounds of seat allocation across both State and All India Quota (AIQ) categories, including Deemed and Central Universities. The process will have four phases—Round 1, Round 2, Round 3, and a final stray vacancy round—with October 3 marked as the last date to join allotted medical institutions. The classes for all academic UG courses for the students will start from September 1. The NEET UG 2025 result was declared on June 14. The process will commence with Round 1 counselling from July 21 to July 30 for the State quota and from July 30 to August 6 for AIQ/Deemed/Central institutions. The last dates for joining this UG phase are August 6 and August 12, respectively, followed by candidate verification from August 7–8 (MCC) and August 13–14 (States). NEET UG 2025 Counselling Schedule Round 2 UG counselling is scheduled from August 12 to August 20 (State) and August 19 to August 29 (AIQ/Deemed), with final joining deadlines of August 29 and September 4. Verification for this round will occur between August 30–September 1 (MCC) and September 5–6 (States). List of scholarship for MBBS aspirants The UG Round 3 will take place from September 3 to September 10 (State) and September 9 to September 18 (AIQ/Deemed), with joining deadlines of September 18 and September 23, followed by verification between September 19–21 (MCC) and September 24 (States). Admissions rise in welfare hostels with improved facilities in Andhra
NELLORE: Welfare hostels across Nellore district are witnessing a significant rise in student admissions for the 2025–26 academic year, attributed to improved infrastructure, quality education, and proactive administrative efforts. Nellore District Collector O Anand stated that the hostels are now better equipped to serve students from economically weaker sections with nutritious meals, hygienic conditions, and enhanced academic support. The State government has allocated substantial funds for renovations and infrastructure development. Minor repair works in 30 hostels were completed with an allocation of Rs 78 lakh, while Swachh Andhra Corporation sanctioned Rs 2 crore for the construction of 69 toilets in 10 hostels, currently underway. The Backward Classes Welfare Department operates 63 pre-matric and 16 post-matric hostels in the district. This year, 4,120 students have enrolled, 2,373 renewals and 1,654 new admissions, marking an increase of over 550 students from last year. Students are provided with free uniforms, notebooks. Sanitation is prioritised, and academic progress is monit o r e d thr oug h weekly assessments under the 'Chaduvudam Ishtanga' initiative, categorising students into A, B, and C groups. The Social Welfare Department manages 71 hostels, 41 for boys and 30 for girls. Essential repairs have been completed with a budget of Rs 932.10 lakh to enhance living conditions. Apart from academic supplies, students received notebooks, and recreational materials. Collector Anand encouraged parents to enrol their children in government hostels to benefit from the State's comprehensive welfare initiatives.
