Uddhav Sena leader held on rape charges in Ahilyanagar; ‘suspect he is being framed,' says party
Kale was arrested from his Ahilyanagar home at midnight after a married woman from Karjat lodged a complaint at the jurisdictional police station on Monday, alleging that he had raped her in 2023 and 2024, officials said.
While Kale's family alleged that he was framed in the case as he had exposed a multi-crore road construction scam in the city recently, the Shiv Sena (UBT) raised similar doubts and sought a thorough investigation into the case.
In her complaint, the woman said she had approached Kale seeking his help in a family matter. She said that she and her husband constantly fought, and she had sought Kale's help. She alleged that Kale raped her and threatened to kill her if she spoke about what had happened.
Kale has been booked under sections 376 (1) (rape), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Meanwhile, Vikram Rathod, joint secretary, Shiv Sena (UBT), said that Kale was being framed in the case. 'I have met the city police and urged them to investigate the matter thoroughly as we suspect that Kale is being framed,' he said.
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Keshav Upadhaye took a jibe at the Shiv Sena (UBT), saying, 'There are pictures of Kale on social media with Supriya Sule and Aaditya Thackeray. Does this mean that they are supporting Kale? Will Uddhav Sena leaders now demand a CBI case in the matter?'

With eye on Assembly polls, West Bengal CM hikes honorarium to community Durga Pujas by 30 %
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday hiked the honorarium to community Durga Pujas in the state to ₹1.10 lakhs marking an almost 30 % increase from the ₹85,000 given to puja community last year. The hike in honorarium to community Durga Pujas months ahead of Assembly polls in the State, evoked strong reaction from Opposition parties who described it as a 'bribe' by the West Bengal's ruling party. Ms. Banerjee said that the number of Durga Puja clubs which organise community Puja in West Bengal is about 45,000 and going by the numbers the honorarium is going to cost ₹495 crore to the State exchequer. The Chief Minister also urged electricity supply companies to give 80 % rebate to the clubs organising Puja and said that all government 'Last year the sum was ₹85,000, this year how much you want. Should it be ₹90,000, ₹95,000, One lakh. Ok let us fix it is ₹1.10 lakh this year,' she announced amidst applause from Durga Puja organisers at a gathering in Kolkata's Netaji Indoor Stadium. Highlighting that Durga Puja is the festival which is close to the hearts of every resident of the State, the Chief Minister told organisers that their focus should be crowd management and clubs should not compete with each other to draw large crowds. Ms. Banerjee advised the clubs to engage more volunteers and have separate entry and exits in Durga Puja pandals. The Durga Puja festival will be held in the last week of September and the Durga Puja Carnival will be held on October 5. Ms. Banerjee urged the Durga Puja organisers to help the migrant workers who have returned to the State after facing harassment in BJP-ruled States. 'I request Durga Puja committees to help migrant workers, who are returning to Bengal after facing torture in BJP-ruled states.' Opposition asks CM to release Dearness Allowance Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari said that the Chief Minister can pay ₹2 lakhs to Durga Puja but before that she should pay the Dearness Allowance (DA) to employees. 'She should increase the salary of ICDS, Angandwadi workers, civic police volunteers and other contractual staff,' Mr. Adhikari said. The LOP predicted that before the Assembly polls Ms. Banerjee will hike the honorarium given to imams and muezzins by ₹500. The honorarium to Durga Puja clubs has on several occasions been challenged before the Calcutta High Court and the State government's argument has been that the funds are to increase awareness on several issues including Safe Drive Safe Life. The Mamata Banerjee government had introduced honorarium to committees organising Durga Puja in 2018 promising a sum of ₹10,000 to each club. In seven years the grant has increased by 11 times. Last year Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court T.S. Sivagnanam had told Advocate General Kishore Dutta, representing the West Bengal government, that the state should consider giving ₹10 lakh to each organiser as that would be commensurate to conducting the puja, saying that ₹85,000 is nothing compared to the expenditure required to celebrate the Durga puja.

1 2 Hyderabad: After a 15-month probe into the sinking of some piers of Medigadda barrage and damages to Annaram and Sundilla barrages, which are part of the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation scheme (KLIS), the Justice PC Ghose one-man commission submitted its report to Telangana govt on Thursday. Justice (Retd) Ghose handed over the nearly 650-page report, which runs into three volumes, to principal secretary, irrigation, Rahul Bojja at the secretariat on the last date of the commission's extended term. Now, the govt will study the report and act on that," Justice Ghose, a former Supreme Court judge, told the media. As promised in the run up to the 2023 assembly polls, the Congress govt ordered a judicial inquiry into the Kaleshwaram project and issued a gazette notification to this effect on March 14, 2024. Justice (Retd) Ghose began his probe in May, 2024. The findings of the commission might echo in the political discourse of the state and all future polls, including the upcoming rural and urban local bodies elections. Kaleshwaram project, touted as the lifeline of Telangana by the previous BRS govt, had created a political storm in the state just before the 2023 assembly polls. Parties blame BRS for flaws The ruling Congress has been blaming the previous K Chandrasekhar Rao-govt for the Kaleshwaram damages. Some retired engineers and irrigation experts say, no other irrigation project has become such a "major controversy" in the country. Irrigation minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy had earlier described Kaleshwaram lapses as the "biggest man-made disaster in independent India", and also said there were many lapses right from design flaws, structural and maintenance issues, no quality control apart from financial mismanagement. Congress alleged that even after spending over 1 lakh crore, the KCR govt could not create even a lakh acre new ayacut. BJP also blamed BRS for the Kaleshwaram lapses. Political game to intensify Congress, BRS and BJP might use the findings of the commission to their advantage during the campaign in future polls, even in the forthcoming rural and urban local bodies elections. The ruling Congress and BRS are eagerly waiting for the report as ex-CM K Chandrasekhar Rao and former irrigation minister T Harish Rao were summoned by the Ghose commission . Many of the irrigation engineers said the location of Medigadda barrages and all major decisions pertaining to Kaleshwaram projectwere taken by KCR himself .

Samik seeks RS debate on ‘threats' to poll panel officials
1 2 Kolkata: BJP state president and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya on Thursday moved a motion in the Rajya Sabha seeking a discussion on the alleged "threat" to officials of the Election Commission in Bengal. He claimed that the "electoral integrity" of the state was under question, warning that such statements could lead to a constitutional crisis. "The administrative functionaries of the state govt have openly challenged the EC, stating that its officials are answerable to the state govt and not bound to follow directives from EC. This directly undermines the constitutional autonomy of an institution established under Article 324 of the Constitution," Bhattacharya wrote in a notice. "Such statements threaten to create a constitutional crisis and set a dangerous precedent. The employees at the commission will not be able to work fearlessly," he said. You Can Also Check: Kolkata AQI | Weather in Kolkata | Bank Holidays in Kolkata | Public Holidays in Kolkata Leader of opposition in Bengal assembly, Suvendu Adhikari echoed similar concerns, alleging that EC officials could come under physical threat. "This is not the first time officials are being intimidated in the state. We have already witnessed ED officials being attacked in Sandeshkhali and NIA officials in Bhupatinagar. Even CM staged a 'dharna' at the CBI office,"Adhikari said.
