Homes for senior citizens to be completed by December: Minister
Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P. K. Sekarbabu on Saturday said that three homes, Tirunelveli and Palani by December this year.
Speaking to presspersons after inspecting the work at Kolathur, he said that the Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, who laid the foundation stone for these projects, was eager to see them function and serve the needy. The home at Kolathur, would be able to provide shelter to 100 persons and have facilities including a park, walking pathways, yoga hall meditation centre, library and individual rooms with attached bathrooms. These homes will be maintained from the Corporate Social Responsibility funds. 'Till now, ₹ 5 crore have been received for the home at Kolathur,' he added.
Asked about the arrangements for the Kumbhabhishegam at the Sri Subramaniaswamy Temple at Thiruchendur, he said that it was a milestone in the Dravidian model of governance. 'A lot of planning has gone into the conduct of the event that has been attracting thousands of persons from all over,' he said.
Three temporary bus stands will come up and large LED TVs will be set up at various locations. A total of 6000 police personnel will be on duty, fire vehicles will be stationed at 27 points and medical centres are to come up at 25 places, ensuring the safety of the devotees. 'Three IAS officials have been specially made in charge for the smooth conduct of the event,' he said.

SC couple denied temple wedding in Tamil Nadu over Christian names of parents
TIRUNELVELI: Three days ahead of their wedding, Gopal Sami and Manju, who belong to SC community (Hindu Puthiraivannar) should be making plans for their future. Instead, they are worrying where to hold the wedding after the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department-managed temple denied permission for the event on the premises as their parents have Christian names. G Manju (20), daughter of Gnanaraj and Anthonyammal, resides at Vallam village near Sengottai in Tenkasi district. Gopal Sami (28) is the son of Joseph Sami and Komu, residents of Palayamkottai in Tirunelveli district. The families decided to conduct the wedding at the Melavasal Balasubramania Swami Temple in Palayamkottai on July 7 and had filed the application on June 24. But the temple denied them permission. Gopal Sami said 'Along with the application, we attached copies of our community certificates.' However, temple accountant Krishnaveni refused permission after seeing Christian names of the parents and said the temple could not allow such a wedding. When contacted by TNIE, Krishnaveni reiterated the reason for denial, adding the families should have changed their names in the gazette. The joint commissioner of HR & CE department in Tirunelveli Kavitha Priyadharshini could not be reached over the phone.
