Ramadan 2026: Here's when it's expected to begin
Astronomers, according to Gulf News, have calculated this date based on the predictions of the position of the moon on this date. The date can possibly also vary by country, depending on moon sightings. The Emirates Astronomy Society is often responsible for assisting in the prediction of the crescent moon.
If you have lived in the UAE for some time, you'll know that the dates of Ramadan can be predicted by astronomers, but not confirmed until declared by religious authorities across the Muslim world following official moon sighting. Over the last year, Dubai has even used drones in its quest to sight the moon, along with the moon sighting committees and the public's assistance.
If you're unsure of what Ramadan is, it is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. It is the most holy time of the year when Muslims around the world abstain from eating, drinking, or smoking between sunrise and sunset. It usually lasts around 29 or 30 days (depending on the calendar). We have a guide to help you, along with dos and don'ts to help you navigate the month.

The UAE's next long weekend might be closer than you think
News by Sarah Joseph July 3, 2025 Before the UAE National Holiday, another one-day holiday for residents can be closer than you think. One of the key dates in the 2025 UAE public holiday calendar is the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH), which falls on the 12th day of the Islamic month of Rabi' Al-Awwal. The birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) will be the next public holiday in the UAE. Believed to be on Rabi Al Awwal 12, residents will get an extra one-day off, potentially leading to a long weekend in September. The next public holiday in the UAE is expected to be the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), likely falling on September 4 or 5, 2025. Thanks to a new law allowing holiday shifts, residents could enjoy a relaxing three-day weekend. When is Prophet Muhammad's Birthday in 2025? If Rabi' Al-Awwal begins on Monday August 25, then the Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) should fall on Friday September 5. This would give Dubai residents a three-day long weekend when combined with Saturday and Sunday. However, if Rabi' Al-Awwal begins on Sunday August 24, then Prophet Muhammad's birthday (PBUH) should fall on Thursday September 4. This would give Dubai residents an additional day off during the working week. When are the next holidays? This being said, more holidays are set to come later in the year, including Commemoration Day and National Day in early December. – For more on luxury lifestyle, news, fashion and beauty follow Emirates Woman on Facebook and Instagram Images: Supplied & Feature Image: Abu Dhabi Mosque
