Trinamool highlights unnatural death migrant worker in Pune, blames it on targeting of Bengali speakers
'This is no longer about detention, harassment, or deportation. This is targeted elimination. Bengalis are being hunted, assaulted, and murdered with impunity in @BJP4India -ruled states. @India_NHRCwon't bat an eye because this state-sponsored violence is orchestrated and enabled by BJP,' the Trinamool Congress posted on social media.
The deceased worker was identified as Dipu Das (28), a resident of Binnaguri panchayat area of Rajganj of West Bengal's Jalpaiguri district. The family members of the migrant worker claimed that he was murdered.
The West Bengal's ruling party on social media said that a blood-soaked photo of the migrant worker's body was sent to his family members by a contractor from Pune. 'His body bore multiple injury marks, including a deep wound on his neck clearly inflicted by a sharp weapon,' the Trinamool Congress said.
Several leaders and spokespersons of the party including Kunal Ghosh took to social media and demanded investigation in the manner. 'In light of a series of such alarming incidents in -ruled states,@BJP4India this cannot be dismissed as an isolated case. We demand a prompt, transparent, and independent investigation into the matter. The culture of targeted hate and impunity must end,' Mr. Ghosh said.
Another Trinamool Congress spokesperson Debangshu Bhattacharya warned that the 'BJP will face consequences far graver than they can imagine' if this 'brutal campaign against Bengalis continues'.
A few days ago, Abu Bakkar Mandal, a migrant worker of Baduria, North 24 Parganas, was murdered under Bhasi police station area of Maharashtra. The Trinamool Congress government had claimed that the migrant worker was targeted for being a Bengali. However, later the investigations revealed the youth was murder due a strained relationship with a woman in Maharashtra.
The family members of the deceased migrant worker from Jalpaiguri, particularly his brother Apu Das said that his brother used to work for a contractor, who told the family that he met with an accident and later was informed that his brother had died. The family members said that they became suspicious after seeing the blood-stained photographs of his brother sent from Pune.
The development comes at a time when hundreds of migrant workers from West Bengal have alleged harassment and torture at the hands of police on suspicion of being Bangladeshi nationals in different States including Maharashtra. The Trinamool Congress has launched a 'language movement' to protest the targeting of migrants.

"However, going outside the purview of traffic awareness, they had posted these posters," Hasan told news agency ANI, adding that the banners have since been taken down. The official also said that the police have filed a report regarding the installation of these banners, "including details such as whether permission from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation was obtained, the purpose of installation, and the individuals responsible". The case will be further investigated on these factors. A video of the poster was posted by the Gujarat unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), slamming the BJP-led state government. "The chief minister and BJP leaders talk about women's safety, but today in a big city like Ahmedabad, these posters express the reality of Gujarat. Our question to the CM is whether the women of Gujarat should go out of the house at night or not?" the statement read. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic West), Neeta Desai told PTI that an NGO named 'Satarkata Group' had put up the posters. "The NGO had approached us and said they wanted to organise traffic awareness programmes in schools and colleges and wanted our staff to accompany them. We were shown posters related to traffic awareness. But such controversial posters were not shown to us and were plastered without our consent," Desai said.

After the BJP, its alliance partner JD(U)'s women's wing has launched an intensive public outreach campaign — from the state to the booth level — to connect with the state's women voters as the assembly polls in the state are drawing near. As against BJP's women outreach plan aimed at covering 120 assembly segments in first phase, the JD(U) has started its campaign to reach out to women across the state and in all constituencies simultaneously. The party held an important meeting of women leaders recently in which state party president Umesh Kushwaha held a detailed discussion keeping the goal of '225 seats in 2025 and Nitish again' at the centre. 'A strategy was decided to strengthen the organisation, ensure active participation of women workers and accelerate the work of the party at the grassroots level. It was also decided that the women's unit of JD(U) will run an extensive public relations campaign and will take the welfare schemes and developmental achievements of the government to the people,' said Kushwaha. 'Under the leadership of Nitish Kumar, Bihar has witnessed transformative initiatives aimed at women empowerment, bringing remarkable changes to their lives. Landmark measures such as free education for girls from KG to post-graduation, prohibition of alcohol, free bicycles for school-going girls, 35% reservation for women in government jobs, and 50% reservation in panchayat elections have significantly uplifted the status of women across the state,' said Anupriya Yadav, JD(U) state spokesperson. Mehbooba Mufti (PTI image) JAMMU: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday favoured revival of sporting ties between India and Pakistan to normalise the tense situation in the aftermath of the recent events including the Pahalgam terror attack and the Operation Sindoor . She said the war clouds hanging over the region are not in favour of the country which is grappling with unemployment and poverty. "There should be sporting events (between India and Pakistan) if you want to live in peace and not spend money on the war. If we want to overcome unemployment and poverty, then you have to normalise the situation and sports is the best bet in achieving this goal," the former chief minister told reporters here. Terrorists struck the Pahalgam hill resort on April 22, killing 25 tourists and a local. In retaliation, the Indian Armed Forces struck terror infrastructure across the border on May 7 under Operation Sindoor, leading to a four-day military clash between the two countries. She said the Indo-Pakistan war is over but the atmosphere is still prevalent in the country. US President Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed credit for avoiding a nuclear war. "How can we overcome poverty and unemployment when we will remain engaged with Pakistan in war?" she said. The PDP chief said adding reconciliation and dialogue in any part of the world is the way forward but before dialogue with Pakistan, the government should hold talks with the people of Jammu and Kashmir. On the US imposing 25 per cent tariff on India, she alleged that the BJP-led government has failed in both domestic and foreign policy. "Diplomatically, we have failed... Time and again, the US president talks about India. He is threatening. Why is he threatening? Because our country completely surrendered in front of America and now its president is trampling us," Mufti said. On Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegation against the Election Commission (EC) of vote theft in favour of the BJP, the PDP leader said he is saying it with proof as to how over one crore voters were added in Maharashtra between the parliamentary and assembly elections. "The beauty of India is its democracy and if you start compromising elections, then what is left behind," she said, alleging that the BJP's J&K policy has failed and the people of the country are fed up with its J&K "rhetoric and war cries". She refused to comment on the remarks of Sadhvi Pragya against the Congress and accused her of worshipping Godse.
