"Who Doesn't Know Jaichand": BJP Uses Tej Pratap's Post To Slam Lalu Yadav
The BJP in Bihar has latched on to Lalu Prasad Yadav's elder son Tej Pratap's "Jaichand" posts to target the RJD patriarch as the tempo for the Bihar Assembly election rises. The BJP Bihar handle on X first posted a teaser that there is discussion about "Jaichand" these days and assured they would reply who "Jaichand" is.
A 12th-century king of Gahadavala dynasty, Jaichand was portrayed in epic poem Prithviraj Raso as a traitor who allied with foreign powers against Prithivraj Chauhan. The term 'Jaichand' has now become synonymous with traitor.
In a post addressed to father Lalu Prasad and mother Rabri Devi, Tej Pratap yesterday posted on X that he just wanted his parents' love and trust. He also said some "greedy people like Jaichand" were playing politics with him. Lalu Prasad has expelled Tej Pratap from the party for six years amid the chatter over a now-deleted Facebook post. In another post, Tej Pratap warned his younger brother, Tejashwi Yadav, of "Jaichands" everywhere and said they were trying to separate the brothers. He assured his brother that he was always with him.
Latching on to the posts, Bihar BJP today accused the RJD founder of betraying Jayaprakash Narayan, who led the agitation against the Emergency and former Bihar Chief Minister and socialist ideologue Karpoori Thakur. "Who doesn't know Bihar's Jaichand who betrayed JP and Karpoori Thakur ji and held Congress's hand. Do we need to say, or do you get it?"
"Who doesn't know Bihar's Jaichand who cheated leaders of the socialist revolution and pushed Bihar to ruin?" Bihar BJP added in another post.
Tej Pratap was expelled over a now-deleted Facebook photograph in which he was seen with a woman. The post identified the woman as Anushka Yadav and said she and Tej Pratap were in a relationship for 12 years. "I am Tej Pratap Yadav and the girl seen with me in this picture is Anushka Yadav. We have known each other for the last 12 years and love each other deeply. We have been in a relationship throughout these years. I wanted to share this with all of you for a long time, but couldn't find the right words. Today, through this post, I am opening my heart to you. I hope you all will understand," it read.
The post went viral and started a chatter, as people asked why Tej Pratap married in 2018 if he was in a relationship. The RJD leader married Aishwarya Rai, daughter of political heavyweight Chandrika Rai, in 2018. The couple separated months later and a divorce case is on.
Amid this chatter, Tej Pratap claimed his profile had been hacked. "My social media platform was hacked and my photographs were edited wrongfully," he wrote on X.
The damage control did not work and the next day, Lalu Yadav announced the decision to expel Tej Pratap from the party. He said "ignoring moral values" in personal life weakens the community's struggle for social justice. "The elder son's activities, public behaviour and irresponsible conduct are not in line with our family's values. In the current circumstances, I remove him from the party and the family. From now on, he will have no role in the party and the family. He has been expelled from the party for six years," he said.

Delivering the 4th Balramji Dass Tandon Memorial Lecture at Panjab University, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said Sunday the world is watching India's rise closely but there is no need to fear it, as he underlined the nation's economic, strategic and cultural ascent under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking on the theme 'Why a Strong India Scares the World', Trivedi underscored that India now accounts for 48 per cent of global digital transactions, has 50 per cent of its installed power capacity from clean energy, and is the fastest-growing economy among the major countries. Referring to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the BJP national spokesperson said India's contribution to global growth is going to be 15 per cent, adding that according to Morgan Stanley, India will become the engine of global growth in the next decade. 'The Word Bank has stated that 16 crore people have been lifted out of extreme poverty. Today, we are the fourth largest economy in the world,' he said. Trivedi also noted India's co-chairing of the Global AI Summit as a marker of its growing international leadership. Quoting PM Modi, Trivedi stressed that 'this is the right time' for India, and those attempting to create confusion will not succeed. India's strength, he said, lies not only in its economic, military and intellectual capabilities but also in its spiritual and cultural power — unique assets that position India to shape the world order. He cited the UN resolution on yoga, co-sponsored by 177 countries, as a strong example of India's growing soft power. On the country's strong response to terrorism, he spoke of surgical strikes, the Balakot airstrike, and Operation Sindoor, emphasising that New India does not tolerate terror. The Operation Sindoor proved that Pakistan's nuclear threats do not work, marking the end of India's era as a soft state, the BJP MP said. 'Those days are over when India was considered a soft state,' he said. Explaining the communication between India's External Affairs Minister (S Jaishankar) and his Pakistani counterpart (Muhammad Ishaq Dar), Trivedi said the Operation Sindoor began at 1:05 am and concluded at 1:27 am. Pakistan was informed at 1:30 am, and it was clarified that the strike was against terrorists, not Pakistan's military installations, he said. He described it as a trap that Pakistan failed to recognise, which exposed the collusion of state and non-state actors within the neighbouring country. Trivedi also said that the world is seeking alternatives to China for industrial investment and that India is best positioned to offer this. India is the only country in the world that has received the S-400 missile system from Russia and advanced drone systems from the US, he said. Russia does not supply arms to any QUAD member nation, while the US does not supply defence equipment to any country receiving arms from Russia, which proves India's tactfulness, he said. On trade relations, Trivedi said the UK was more eager for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) than India, reflecting the country's rising economic stature. 'India is steadily becoming an economic superpower,' he said. Describing Balramji Dass Tandon as a 'Path Pradarshak Deepak' (guiding lamp), Trivedi paid rich tributes to him for his contributions to the RSS, BJP and the region. Lauding Tandon for his unwavering dedication to public service and organisational discipline, he referred to him as the 'foundation stone of the bright building which we are seeing now'. Haryana: Vikas Barala dropped from law officer post after not joining
Vikas Barala CHANDIGARH: In a significant turnaround by the Nayab Singh Saini-led BJP govt, the office of the Advocate General has dropped the name of Vikas Barala as a law officer as he did not report for joining, an official spokesperson of the state govt confirmed on Monday. The official categorically confirmed that except for Vikas Barala, the rest of the law officers appointed had joined and assumed charge. Consequent to the joining report compiled by the concerned authorities, Vikas Barala's name was dropped, the official remarked. Notably, the development came within a week after the Haryana govt notified the list of appointments of law officers in the office of the Advocate General Haryana to defend the state in the Punjab and Haryana High Court as well as the Supreme Court of India. On July 18, the Haryana govt notified the appointment of 92 law officers, including Vikas Barala, to the office of the Advocate General Haryana. Barala, who happens to be the son of Rajya Sabha MP Subash Barala, is facing trial as an accused in the stalking and attempted abduction of the daughter of a senior Haryana bureaucrat (now retired). Opposition parties and leaders criticised the Saini-led govt on this appointment. As to why Vikas chose not to join remains a mystery. However, sources indicate that it was a decision of the party high command as well as the govt after he did not report for joining. The screening committee, which comprised two retired judges of the high court, ignored the serious charges against him. The members of the Advocate General Haryana-headed screening committee that recommended Vikas's appointment were Mani Ram Sharma (IAS), special secretary, home department as the nominee of the additional chief secretary (home), Ritu Garg, legal remembrancer, and two retired judges, Justice Darshan Singh and Justice H S Bhalla, who were members (eminent legal professionals). Normally, those having affiliation with the ruling party are appointed as law officers, and their tenure is co-terminus with the party in power. On August 5, 2017, Vikas Barala and his friend Ashish allegedly followed the bureaucrat's daughter and tried to stop the car of a senior Haryana bureaucrat. The girl called the Chandigarh police, who apprehended the boys. At the time of the incident, they were under the influence of liquor. Both were booked under section 354 D (stalking) of the IPC and under the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act. Later, police added two more sections for attempted kidnapping, and they were arrested. Vikas's father, Subhash Barala, was then serving as the state president of Haryana BJP. The trial of the case is currently pending before the district court in Chandigarh and is slated for hearing on August 2. The trial is at the stage of recording prosecution evidence.
