Squid Game Season 3 ending divides fans: Internet compares finale to Game of Thrones, calls it 'useless extension' of the series.

Squid Game Season 3 ending: We never thought Squid Game and Game of Thrones would end up in the same sentence aside from both having game in their titles. But now, fans are drawing strong parallels between the two after Squid Game Season 3 ended with what many are calling a disappointing and unnecessary finale. Viewers say the gripping survival drama, once praised for its originality and emotional depth, has now fallen into the same trap as Game of Thrones, which faced massive backlash when it ended in 2019. Fans of both shows believe their final seasons rushed through complex storylines, neglected character arcs, and ultimately delivered endings that felt disconnected from everything that made them great.
Squid Game Season 3 ending: Who won the game and what happened to Gi Hun?
The final round of Squid Game Season 3 took viewers on an emotional journey. In a haunting setup dubbed the 'Sky Squid Game', only three players remained: Gi-hun (Player 456), Myung-gi (Player 333), and Jun Hee's newborn daughter (Player 222). Yes, a baby, added as a contestant in the show's darkest twist yet.
Suspended atop towering platforms, Myung Gi met a grim fate during a brutal confrontation with Gi Hun, falling to his death. But the game wasn't technically over. To win, Gi-hun still had to press a button, essentially choosing whether to eliminate the infant.
Instead, Gi Hun did what only he could. He walked toward the button and said, 'We are not horses. We are humans.' Then, without hesitation, he pressed it, sacrificing himself so the baby could live. His fall marked one of the show's most powerful moments. In doing so, he made Jun-hee's daughter the official winner of the ₩45.6 billion prize (around USD 33.5 million).
Why are fans criticising the ending?
Despite Gi-hun's dramatic final choice, many fans were left confused and unconvinced. For a character who had been the driving force of the story, his sudden death didn't sit right with some viewers. Gi Hun was supposed to take down the system, not die for it. Others questioned how a baby could win the game without participating in every round, calling it a forced plot device. To many, the ending felt like a stretch, as if the creators were looking for a way to keep the series going after its massive success. The finale has sparked a wide range of reactions online, with some calling it bold and others simply calling it unnecessary.
One user wrote, "Final episode… never seen a series end that badly. Is that how the GoT fans felt all this time?"

Another added, "The concept of going back into the games with a whack plan, leaving all that money unattended and sacrificing yourself for a random baby while your own daughter was waiting on you for years… the show should've ENDED after season 1."

A third fan mentioned, "Squid Game season 3's ending showed us that capitalism always wins no matter what" – okay, and season 1's ending also showed us that. still was a useless extension of the show."

"Squid Game season 3 pulled a literal GOT. You had me the first 4 episodes…you had it…then it felt rushed, and you stumbled into the finish line," mentioned one user.

"Season 3 of Squid Games is almost comparable to the last season of Game of Thrones. Super shit," wrote another.

However, several users defended the finale, saying it stayed true to the show's central message — that life is inherently unfair and capitalism dictates the game. Some even argued that the ending was powerful in its bleakness, reinforcing that no matter how hard you fight, the system wins in the end. As expected, the internet remains split, with some calling it a brave move and others seeing it as a letdown.
Created by Hwang Dong Hyuk, Squid Game stars Lee Jung Jae, Lee Byung Hyun, Wi Ha Jun, and Park Sung Hoon among others. Squid Game Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix.

Box Office: Why is Jurassic World Rebirth's advance bookings not open in top Indian national chains yet?

Jurassic World: Rebirth, directed by Gareth Edwards and starring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, Mahershala Ali and others, hits North American theatres on 2nd July and Indian theatres on 4th July. The excitement for the film across the globe is very high. Early projections are that the dinosaur movie will go past the USD 300 million mark at the global box office, by the end of the first weekend itself. For a movie that needs USD 500 million to breakeven theatrically, the expected weekend number should be seen very positively. Jurassic World: Rebirth Faces Hurdles In India; Full Fledged Advance Bookings Still Not Open Despite all that's working in favour of the movie, there are a few things that are going against it. After the setback of getting no IMAX screens, now the movie is struggling to get its desired showcasing in top Indian national chains. Advances for tentpole Hollywood movies begin a week or two prior to the release. Here, the film's limited advance bookings have opened in chains like Cinepolis and MovieMax but not PVRInox, which contributes more than 50 percent of the earnings of any Hollywood feature. Jurassic World: Rebirth Competes With Strong Holdover Releases And New Releases For Screens It is said that the movie is struggling to get its desired showcasing due to strong holdover titles like F1, Maa and Sitaare Zameen Par, and its release rival Metro... In Dino. While it goes without saying that the dinosaur film will be the top pick for Indian moviegoers this week, it is unfortunate that it has to still struggle to get its desired showcasing. One would hope that the screen-sharing issues are sorted and the movie gets a smooth release. Jurassic World: Rebirth Day 1 India Net Projections Based on our tracking, Jurassic World: Rebirth should be opening in the Rs 9.50 - 10.50 crore net vicinity. However, the tracking number can go for a toss if it does not get the desired showcasing. The advance bookings should open in a full-fledged manner by Wednesday, if the movie really wants a shot at a double digit opening. Jurassic World: Rebirth hits Indian theatres on 4th July, 2025. Stay tuned to Pinkvilla for more updates.

PlayboxTV to invest around Rs 25 cr in vertical content arm, expects Rs 100 cr ARR

The platform has made a strategic entry into the fast-growing micro-dramas segment with the launch of vertical content feature PlayShots. The OTT application enhances a customer's experience by listing movies, TV shows and web series from over 30 OTT apps with more than 350 channels across 10 languages. Mumbai, Jul 1 (PTI) OTT aggregator platform PlayboxTV has lined up an investment of around Rs 25 crore in the next 18 months to grow its newly-launched vertical-format content segment and expects annual recurring revenue of Rs 100 crore, a top company official said on Tuesday. 'We have lined up an investment of around Rs 25 crore in the next 18 months to grow the new vertical (PlayShots),' Aamir Mulani, Founder & CEO of PlayboxTV said. The OTT platform expects annual recurring revenue of Rs 100 crore from the vertical, he added. Available directly within the PlayboxTV app, PlayShots will offer viewers gripping, original Indian stories — all in under 10 minutes, he said. Mulani said vertical-format content is the future and PlayShots has embraced the growing trend of vertical viewing and short-form storytelling. He added that the micro-drama industry is already making waves globally, adding that in China, for instance, the micro-drama market surpassed the traditional film industry in revenue in 2024, generating 50.44 billion yuan (approximately USD 6.9 billion). Vertical content refers to visual material designed to be viewed in a vertical orientation, particularly suited for smartphones and tablets. While the Indian entertainment ecosystem is more diverse and culturally layered, industry analysts foresee a significant rise in vertical content consumption, Mulani said. It may be mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing the first World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai recently had noted that India's OTT industry has witnessed tenfold growth in recent years stating that while screen sizes may be shrinking, the scope of content is infinite, with micro screens delivering mega messages.
