Upcoming Char Aznable Action Figure Came Here To Laugh At You

Upcoming Char Aznable Action Figure Came Here To Laugh At You

Forbes22-04-2025

The upcoming S.H.Figuarts Char Aznable action figure from Bandai Spirits.
In a curious move, Bandai Spirits has announced a new upcoming Char Aznable action figure from Mobile Suit Gundam.
The reason why this is curious is that while shows like Kamen Rider and Ultraman get loads of action figures, characters from mecha anime tend not to get the same treatment.
I learned years ago from a representative at Bandai Spirits that when it came to mecha shows, people didn't tend to want figures of characters but more of the mecha themselves.
The reason for this is that the mecha in these shows act as cyphers for the characters, so buying a toy of the mecha they pilot is the equivalent of also buying an action figure of the character.
However, the big change now is that series like Mobile Suit Gundam have a much larger international market share compared to a decade ago.
As with other S.H.Figuarts releases, this figure will have a very wide range of articulation.

My guess is that this Char Aznable figure is meant more for the international market to see if character action figures from mecha anime can have more traction abroad.
Naturally, this Char Aznable action figure also ties neatly into the currently airing Gundam GQuuuuuuX anime, where he is featured as part of the backstory for the series.
Char Aznable is also arguably one of the most iconic characters from the Gundam saga, so it makes sense that Bandai Spirits would start here.
Admittedly, this is by no means the first mecha anime-related character action figure, but they are a rarity due to the reasons specified above, so this does stand out as a more strategic release from an international standpoint.
As with other S.H.Figuarts releases, the figure comes with all manner of gimmicks, from different facial expressions to the Newtype 'flash' effect.
This S.H.Figuarts Char Aznable action figure will be released this October and cost 9,900 yen (or around $71 at the current exchange rate).
As for the whole Char meme, admittedly, that is from Zeta Gundam, when Char called himself Quattro, but it still feels appropriate considering how snarky Char can be across the Gundam franchise.

It's been a couple weeks since I guided you through one of these Strands puzzles. Back then, we weren't even quite half-way through June. Time flew and here we are. The end is nigh. Here comes July. Let's uncover some words for this Saturday grid shall we? Strands is the newest game in the New York Times' stable of puzzle games. It's a fun twist on classic word search games. Every day we're given a new theme and then tasked with uncovering all the words on the grid that fit that theme, including a spangram that spans two sides of the board. One of these words is the spangram which crosses from one side of the grid to another and reveals even more about the day's theme. Spoilers ahead. Today's spangram is: BATTERIESREQUIRED Here's the full list of words: Here's the completed Strands grid: Today's Strands This was an interesting Strands. The spangram—BATTERIESREQUIRED—is all on the left side of the grid instead of intersecting it. I actually found this one first. I found BATTERIES, which I knew was the . . . in the theme and when that didn't work I searched more and found REQUIRED. Of course, my mind turns to the old movie Batteries Not Required, which is a wonderful old film from 1987 that I watched a bunch of times as a kid. From here it was pretty easy. TOYS was in the other corner. CLOCK was just below that and cordoned off CAMERA. I mopped up the last couple words soon enough. How did you do on your Strands today? Classic Gundam's Design Fixed In New ‘GQuuuuuuX' Toy

The upcoming Metal Robot Damashii toy of the classic Gundam from 'GQuuuuuuX'. In the final episode of Gundam GQuuuuuuX, the original RX-78-2 Gundam appears, and its latest toy has a lot more to it than it first appears. To back up quite a bit, the original design of the classic Gundam by Kunio Okawara is surprisingly curvaceous, and that has always caused issues when it gets translated into model kit or toy form. Back in 1999, Bandai did a solid stab at getting the original Gundam 'right' with their Kado Senshi chogokin release. I have it, and for its time, it's very nicely done. More recently, though, the design has been forcibly modernized for model kits and especially toys. The latter being an issue with the Robot Damashii spin-off series Ver. ANIME. The point of these Ver. ANIME toys were to accurately replicate mecha designs from the various host anime, and all of them were wonderfully done. All except one. The classic Gundam still had a modernized sculpt and proportions, which naturally irritated the fans in Japan. Every toy variant of the classic Gundam in this Ver. ANIME toyline had the same issue, and most had given up on ever getting a proper version of the design. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder That was until it was featured in GQuuuuuuX, and in its original Okawara proportions. Following the other Metal Robot Damashii releases from GQuuuuuuX, which feature die-cast in their construction, the original Gundam has been added to that lineup. While we only get a beam saber and shield with this release, so no beam rifle or hyper bazooka, the fact that this toy finally fixes this issue of being faithful to Okawara's design is definitely welcomed. Pre-orders start today in Japan via Premium Bandai, and the price tag is also pretty decent. Coming in at 16,500 yen (or around $114 at the current exchange rate), you will also likely be able to use the hands and weapons from prior Robot Damashii releases to get the full load-out. Gundam GQuuuuuuX is now streaming worldwide via Amazon Prime Video. Follow me on X, Facebook and YouTube. I also manage Mecha Damashii and am currently featured in the Giant Robots exhibition currently touring Japan.
