Proposals for Metro Rail Phase 2 submitted to Centre

The proposals for Metro Rail Phase 2 (B), along with all the required documents and Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), were submitted to the Union Government on Saturday.
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, during his recent visit to New Delhi, urged the Centre to sanction permissions for the project at the earliest.
The Phase 2 (B) project consists of three corridors — Rajiv Gandhi International Airport to Bharat Future City (39.6 km) with an estimated cost of ₹7,168 crore; Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Medchal (24.5 km) to be constructed at an estimted cost of ₹6,946 crore and JBS to Shamirpet (22 km) to be constructed at ₹5,465 crore.
It covers a total length of 86.1 km involving an investment of ₹19,579 crore.
As per the JV project norms of the Central government, Phase 2 (B) cost of ₹19,579 crore will have GoTG's share of ₹5,874 crore (30%), GoI's share of ₹3,524 crore (18%); debt from international financial institutions of ₹9,398 crore (48%) and a small PPP component of ₹783 crore (4%).

Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): Congress leader Digvijaya Singh expressed his discontent with the Central government marking the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, and said that it has never happened that a central government has made its political agenda the government's agenda. Digvijaya Singh said, 'I have only one objection. Central government officials are writing letters to states and telling them to organise programs against the Emergency for one whole year. It has never happened that a central government has made its political agenda, the government's agenda. This should not happen.' Earlier Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday during the 123rd episode of his monthly radio address 'Mann Ki Baat' condemned imposition of Emergency in the country and termed the period as one of the darkest chapters in India's democratic history. He said that country is observing the 50th anniversary of the Emergency as 'Samvidhan Hatya Diwas'. During his address to the nation, he played rare archival audio of former Prime Ministers Morarji Desai, Babu Jagjivan Ram and Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who described the Emergency as a time of constitutional murder, mass arrests, and the suppression of civil liberties and press freedom. The Prime Minister asserted that every citizen should remember the ones who fought 'bravely' against the Emergency and it also inspires us to stay 'vigilant' to 'safeguard' the constitution. PM Modi said, 'Morarji Desai describes the Emergency in brief... Not only did those who imposed the Emergency murder democracy, but their intention was to keep the judiciary as their puppet... Under 'MISA', anyone was arrested arbitrarily, people were tortured... Indians refused to compromise on democracy. Finally, people won and the Emergency was lifted. Babu Jagjivan Ram powerfully about this...' MISA refers to the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA). In the audio clip of Morarji Desai, the former Prime Minister is heard recounting the horrors of the Emergency. Desai is heard saying in the clip played by PM Modi in his radio address, 'When the Emergency was imposed, people were treated inhumanely. Their right to freedom was snatched away, newspapers were silenced, and the judiciary was rendered powerless. Over one lakh people were jailed. Such an arbitrary rule is rare even in world history.' Collector fights for awareness on central insurance schemes
Nandyal: District Collector G Raja Kumari has directed officials to actively conduct the Grama Sthayi Jan Suraksha campaign across the district from July 1 to September 30, with a focus on creating wide-scale awareness about Central Government insurance schemes. Addressing officials during a public grievances redressal platform held at the PGRS Hall in the Collectorate on Monday, the Collector stressed the need for intensified outreach at the village level to ensure maximum public participation in these welfare initiatives. Participating in an awareness programme held after the grievance session, the Collector, along with Joint Collector and other senior officials, explained the details of the Central insurance schemes. She instructed the DRDA, DLDCO, and DPO to promote schemes like Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) during the campaign period. Under PMSBY, individuals aged between 18 and 70 years can avail accident insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh by paying an annual premium of just Rs 20. Similarly, under PMJJBY, individuals aged 18 to 50 years can get life insurance coverage of Rs 2 lakh for an annual premium of Rs 436. The Collector also highlighted the importance of the Atal Pension Yojana, stating that citizens who make monthly contributions to their bank accounts under the scheme will be eligible for a fixed pension after attaining 60 years of age. She urged officials to promote these schemes extensively in rural areas and ensure that eligible citizens are properly guided to enroll in them. Furthermore, the Collector emphasized the need to complete re-KYC of Jan Dhan accounts opened in 2014 by June 30, 2026. Bank account holders should be educated about the requirement to submit updated Aadhaar cards and recent photographs for re-KYC. She also instructed the Lead District Manager to spread awareness about digital banking transactions, urging the Municipal Commissioner and MPDOs to ensure comprehensive awareness campaigns in rural areas on secure and efficient digital financial practices. Joint Collector C Vishnu Charan, DRO Ramu Naik, LDM Ravindra Kumar, and other district officials were present during the meeting.

Centre approves annual road plan of Rs 3,667 crore for Himachal: Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh stated that the Central Government has approved the Annual Plan of Rs 3,667 crore for the construction and upgrading of roads, bridges and related infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh for the financial year 2024-25. Singh on Monday said that the plan includes construction of bridges, road widening, installation of crash barriers and other works on national highways across various districts of the state. The Minister said that on the directions of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, he recently met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and discussed important issues related to the state. He said that presently the state has around 1,200 kilometres of roads under the national highway network and requested to enhance central assistance for their maintenance and improvement of roads and other related works. He said that while the state had submitted an Annual Plan of Rs. 2,600 crore for the financial year 2023-24, it had received only Rs. 269 crore, which was insufficient. However, for the financial year 2024-25, the state government proposed a plan worth Rs.3,667 crore, which has now been approved by the Centre in June. Vikramaditya Singh said that he had also raised the issue of constructing a tunnel beneath Jalori Jot in Kullu district, under National Highway-305. The Central Government has given in-principle approval and sanctioned Rs. 1,452 crore for this tunnel. He said that the construction of this tunnel would not only boost tourism in the area but also benefit lakhs of residents in the region. He further added that due to repeated landslides near Brauni Nala on National Highway-5, the road has suffered serious damage. To address this, the Centre has approved Rs.135 crore for the construction of a bridge at this location. Apart from this, the Central Government has sanctioned Rs.1,385 crore for the four-laning of the Kala Amb-Paonta Sahib-Dehradun road. It includes land acquisition and pre-construction activities. The PWD Minister expressed his gratitude to Union Minister Nitin Gadkari and the Central Government for approving significant funds for the state. He said he was hoping for strong coordination between the Centre and the State to continue in the future. He said that the state government, with the Centre's support, was committed to ensuring balanced and inclusive development in all regions of the state. The Minister said that during his Delhi visit, he also met Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and raised the issue of the proposed Bhubu Jot tunnel and road connecting Mandi and Kullu districts. He requested that the road leading to the tunnel be declared strategically important as a defence route. He said that the state was hopeful of a positive outcome on this vital road project in the near future. Once completed, the road would reduce the distance between Pathankot and Kullu by 40 to 50 kilometres, which would boost tourism and also benefit residents as well as the Indian Army. (ANI)
