Odisha's development has gained pace under Majhi: PM Modi

BHUBANESWAR: Lauding the efforts of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and his team for giving fresh momentum to the development of Odisha in a short period of time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday exuded confidence that the double-engine government will take the state to new heights.
Addressing a state-level function celebrating one-year of the first BJP government in the state, the prime minister said the Majhi government has made sincere efforts to live up to the expectations of people.
'I extend my heartfelt greetings to the people of Odisha for their support and trust. I also congratulate the chief minister and his entire team for their commendable work,' Modi said.
The PM said, 'Odisha is not just a state. It is a radiant beacon of India's rich heritage. For thousands of years, it has been a cornerstone of Indian culture, contributing to its growth and vibrancy. In today's time when the mantra of development and heritage form the foundation of India's progress, the role of Odisha in this journey has become more significant.'
Modi said the central government is investing thousands of crores of rupees in enhancing road, rail and air connectivity in Odisha. Establishment of projects such as a mega dual-feed cracker and downstream unit in Paradip, a crude oil storage facility in Chandikhole and an LNG terminal in Gopalpur will position Odisha as a major industrial state. This will lead to creation of a vast network of small and medium enterprises and boost industries related to petroleum, petrochemicals, textiles and plastics. It will generate lakhs of new employment opportunities for the youth.
'Nearly `1.5 lakh crore has already been invested in Odisha's petroleum and petrochemical sectors. Odisha is rapidly advancing towards becoming India's petrochemicals hub,' he added. Releasing the Odisha Vision Document, the prime minister said, 'Our government is not limited to one-year achievements or five-year targets. We are building a roadmap for the coming decades. The roadmap prepared for 2036 and 2047 is highly ambitious. I have full faith in the talent and dedication of Odisha's youth to achieve every objective.'

No 'Revolution' or 'Vomiting' in September, Says MLC Bhandari, Dismissing Talk of Leadership Change

Udupi: Amid murmurs of dissent and speculation over potential changes in the Karnataka Congress leadership, Legislative Council member Manjunath Bhandari dismissed the chatter, stating there will be 'no revolution or vomiting in September,' and that any decision on leadership lies solely with the party high command. Speaking to reporters at a press conference, Bhandari said, 'What matters is not what individual leaders say, but what the AICC president says. The party is strong, and only the central leadership can decide on any change. Statements from one or two leaders won't lead to a shake-up.' On the recent comment by AICC secretary Priyanka Kharge calling for a ban on the RSS, Bhandari said: 'What's wrong with what she said? She's a hundred percent right. Nothing is above the Constitution. If Congress returns to power, we will seriously review imposing a ban on the RSS.' Responding to BJP leader C.T. Ravi's jibe that Congress observer Randeep Singh Surjewala has come to "conduct a postmortem," Bhandari hit back: 'Didn't observers and general secretaries visit the state even during BJP rule? No one needs to conduct a postmortem of the Congress. How much property does the BJP own today compared to the Congress? Where were BJP leaders 50 years ago, and where are they now?' He added that Surjewala was in Karnataka merely to listen to party workers and assess the situation as part of routine party functioning.

CM hits back at Gaude over tribal welfare criticism

Margao: Chief minister Pramod Sawant on Thursday mounted a strong defence of his govt's performance on the tribal welfare front, taking veiled swipes at Govind Gaude, whom Sawant had recently sacked as the art and culture minister. Gaude's ouster followed his corruption charges against the CM-led tribal welfare department and accusations of inefficiency. Speaking at the launch of the Dharti Aabha Janbhagidari Abhiyan at Sanguem, Sawant listed various schemes and initiatives launched for tribals during his tenure as CM. 'And someone says I haven't done anything for the tribals,' Sawant said, alluding to Gaude's criticism. 'I may not be related by blood with my tribal brethren, but I have an emotional connect with them, a social relationship, something that comes from within, and therefore, I was able to implement 100% of the schemes.' Sawant said, 'If anything, caring for tribals runs in BJP's DNA. Previous govts wouldn't even acknowledge the existence of tribal communities, let alone their issues.' To drive home the point on his tribal welfare initiatives, Sawant said that when he took over, 10,000 applications were pending under the Forest Rights Act. 'My govt was able to grant sanads to 3,500 applicants,' he said. 'The rest will get the sanads by Dec 19 this year.' The administration is working in the mission mode to achieve the target, Sawant said. He also pointed to the establishment of the tribal commission and the tribal corporation after he took over as CM. He said a tribal research centre is being set up at Sanguem, a tribal museum has been proposed at Farmagudi, and the Kunbi village at Sanguem is set to be ready in three months. In a pointed jibe at Gaude, Sawant said, 'It pains me deeply when I come to know of the hardships any of my tribal brothers face, be it for want of a toilet or a tap, and that speaks of my passion for uplifting the tribals.' Sawant said, 'Many who had blood relationships with tribals came and went but couldn't do anything worthwhile.' Union minister for tribal affairs Jual Oram and state social welfare minister Subhash Phal Dessai were among those present for the function.
