Harrison Ford slams state of American politics: 'Rich get richer, poor get poorer'

Harrison Ford is opening up about the state of U.S. politics in a new interview.
The "Indiana Jones" actor, 83, told Variety in a story published Wednesday, July 30, that "the pendulum doth swing in both directions, and it's on a healthy swing to the right at the moment" when asked about where the country is in the six months since the start of President Donald Trump's second term
"And, as nature dictates, it will swing back," Ford said. The "Shrinking" star added that "the issue is not who we are, but that we're not who we used to be because we've been purposefully disaggregated into serviceable political units."

The Oscar nominee told the outlet that shifts in political tone have "caused the middle to become frayed," but said that "the middle is where we belong" because "compromise is fair and honest."
The leading man – who clenches his hands together on a wooden chair in a black tuxedo on the Variety cover – said the country is "having a hard time finding commonality." But he pointed to Americans figuring out "where the commonality is" as they look to the economy: "It's where it always was: Rich get richer, and poor get poorer. And that ain't exactly right."
Ford endorsed Trump's opponent – former Vice President Kamala Harris – days before the Nov. 5 election, which she ultimately lost.
In his endorsement video of Harris, the Hollywood icon told fans "look, I've been voting for 64 years." In the black-and-white video footage posted online, Ford went on to say he never really wanted "to talk about it very much," and urged voters to "move forward" with Harris.
"When dozens of former members of the Trump administration are sounding alarms saying, 'for God's sake, don't do this again,' you have to pay attention," Ford said in the video. "They're telling us something important."
