Harrison Ford slams state of American politics: 'Rich get richer, poor get poorer'

USA Today6 days ago
Harrison Ford is opening up about the state of U.S. politics in a new interview.
The "Indiana Jones" actor, 83, told Variety in a story published Wednesday, July 30, that "the pendulum doth swing in both directions, and it's on a healthy swing to the right at the moment" when asked about where the country is in the six months since the start of President Donald Trump's second term
"And, as nature dictates, it will swing back," Ford said. The "Shrinking" star added that "the issue is not who we are, but that we're not who we used to be because we've been purposefully disaggregated into serviceable political units."

The Oscar nominee told the outlet that shifts in political tone have "caused the middle to become frayed," but said that "the middle is where we belong" because "compromise is fair and honest."
The leading man – who clenches his hands together on a wooden chair in a black tuxedo on the Variety cover – said the country is "having a hard time finding commonality." But he pointed to Americans figuring out "where the commonality is" as they look to the economy: "It's where it always was: Rich get richer, and poor get poorer. And that ain't exactly right."
Ford endorsed Trump's opponent – former Vice President Kamala Harris – days before the Nov. 5 election, which she ultimately lost.
In his endorsement video of Harris, the Hollywood icon told fans "look, I've been voting for 64 years." In the black-and-white video footage posted online, Ford went on to say he never really wanted "to talk about it very much," and urged voters to "move forward" with Harris.
"When dozens of former members of the Trump administration are sounding alarms saying, 'for God's sake, don't do this again,' you have to pay attention," Ford said in the video. "They're telling us something important."

'Shrinking' Star Pens Heartbreaking Tribute to Beloved Family Member: 'Trying to Fill the Crater He Left'

'Shrinking' Star Pens Heartbreaking Tribute to Beloved Family Member: 'Trying to Fill the Crater He Left' originally appeared on Parade. Shrinking star Ted McGinley wrote an absolutely gut-wrenching post on Monday, August 4, about losing beloved family member Fiddy, his beautiful dog. It is especially poignant because McGinley and his wife Gigi Rice were displaced from their home in the Palisades fire earlier this year, and their pup won't get to return. "Just recently, I posted something about two buddies dreaming of getting back into their home after the Palisades Fire…One of us…Never will :( We lost him Sat Morning. How can something so tiny be so huge. Trying to fill the crater he left us. If you know…you know. Ouch. Best friends…just not forever." The other post the actor is referring to is from July 3, when he posted a photo of himself with Fiddy in their backyard and wrote, "After the Palisades Fire…two buddies return to lay on the warm stones in their back yard. My Co-Mayor of the Palisades, wife Gigi Rice and I wish you a happy 4th of July. (Early). Good to dream about being home again someday."In the comments announcing Fiddy's death, McGinley's Shrinking co-star Michael Urie wrote, "Love you, Ted," and the show's costume designer Allyson B. Fanger wrote, "Omg TEDDDDDDD so sorry FIDDY and you will forever be together in your hearts ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ so sorry he was v special and v loved . He had a good life❤️😇🐾🌈✨sending love 💔." Shrinking writer Ashley Nicole Black added, "I'm so sorry, Ted. Sending love." Chef Sloan Rinaldi wrote, "God bless his soul🐾🙏🏻🐾. It's just never long enough. The most unconditional love. 🐾❤️🐾." And one fan added, "So sorry to see this 😢 Glad we get the time and memories w/ them, but our #furbabies always seem to go too quickly 💔."On January 9, McGinley and Extra host Billy Bush took a video of the devastation in the Palisades when they went together back to McGinley's home to try to salvage his wife's artwork. Gigi Rice is a former actress who is now a painter; according to her website, she opened a gallery with her friend Alice Hernandez-Gaona in 2014. McGinley has starred on such iconic TV shows as Dynasty, Hope and Faith, Married With Children and most recently Shrinking. Shrinking returns later this year for its third season on AppleTV+; it co-stars Harrison Ford, Jason Segel, Christa Miller, Jessica Williams and it has added the legendary in a "major" role for the third season. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 'Shrinking' Star Pens Heartbreaking Tribute to Beloved Family Member: 'Trying to Fill the Crater He Left' first appeared on Parade on Aug 5, 2025 This story was originally reported by Parade on Aug 5, 2025, where it first appeared. Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson's ‘Marriage Story' fight scene is being used to scare wolves

An explosive argument between Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson 's characters in ' Marriage Story ' is doing what fences can't: keeping wolves away from local farms. The tense scene in the 2019 film is among several audio clips that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has been broadcasting to scare off grey wolves that have been eating livestock from farms along the West Coast, according to a recent report by the Wall Street Journal. USDA District Supervisor Paul Wolf, who introduced the method, told the WSJ that the goal is to get the wolves to fear humans. 'I need the wolves to respond and know that, hey, humans are bad,' he said. The new method uses drone cowhands and thermal cameras to shine spotlights on wolves lurking in the shadows, sounding off a loudspeaker with alarming sounds, such as the 'Marriage Story' clip. 'Marriage Story,' directed by Noah Baumbach, centers on a strained couple going through a bitter divorce and custody battle. The Academy Award-winning drama has since become known for its grueling depiction of marital struggles. Baumbach, whose partner is Sacramento native and Oscar-nominated filmmaker Greta Gerwig, previously told Entertainment Weekly that the scene was the 'most difficult' he has ever shot in his decades-long career. The WSJ report notes that rock and heavy metal songs such as AC/DC's hit 'Thunderstruck' and Five Finger Death Punch's 'Blue on Black' have also been used to startle wolves back into the woods, helping to decrease the number of livestock deaths. The Chronicle has reached out to the USDA for more information. California has a large wolf population, with three new packs discovered in May bringing the state's total number of packs to a century-high of 10. The new families are living in parts of Northern California, including Shasta County east of Redding, central Lassen County and eastern Tehama County. The area's growing wolf population has already proven to be challenging for local ranchers. Quincy rancher Dan Greenwood previously told the Chronicle that he counted more than 25 dead cows and calves due to wolves, noting that he is 'beyond frustrated' with the situation. Others have reported that they are 'losing cattle daily.'
