'The pieces are being moved from the crash site. Some were relocated on Saturday, and the work continued on Sunday. Every piece of wreckage is being transported from the crash site to a new location for reconstruction,' said Ahmedabad police commissioner GS Malik.
Officials aware of the matter said it would take between 48 and 72 hours to move the entire wreckage of the nearly 120-tonne aircraft, which plunged into the BJ Medical College hostel 33 seconds after taking off from the Ahmedabad airport, killing all but one of its 242 passengers and crew and at least 30 people on the ground.

HT had reported on June 20 that the debris are being moved to a site near the Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Company Limited (GUJSAIL) office near the airport, on land owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which has been identified for use in the ongoing investigation.
'Reconstructed parts of the aircraft will be examined to determine what led to the crash. The black box will be analysed as part of this process,' Malik said.

India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is probing the crash, while the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading a parallel international investigation into the plane crash.
At least 247 persons killed in the crash have so far been identified through DNA matching and 232 bodies handed over to their families, as per officials.
Both sets of flight recorders from the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner have been recovered - the first combined Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) unit was found on June 13, with the second set located on June 16. The B787 aircraft model carries two black box sets – one under the cockpit and the other in the tail section -- as standard.
The debris removal and transportation process typically involves careful cataloguing and preservation of aircraft components that could provide crucial evidence about the crash sequence.
Investigators must maintain a strict chain of custody for all materials, with larger structural components often moved to specialised facilities where they can be reconstructed to understand the aircraft's final moments. Critical components like engines and control surfaces undergo detailed metallurgical and mechanical analysis to identify any failures or anomalies that may have contributed to the accident.

New Delhi: As the investigation into the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI-171 continues, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol has confirmed that 'possible sabotage' is one of the aspects under scrutiny. Speaking at an event in Pune, Minister Mohol told NDTV: "It (plane crash) was an unfortunate incident. The AAIB has begun a full investigation into it... It is being probed from all angles, including any possible sabotage. The CCTV footage is being reviewed and all angles are being assessed... several agencies are working on it." The Ministry of Civil Aviation has stated that data extraction from the black boxes began on June 24 with assistance from both Indian and US investigators, including members of the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The Crash Protection Module (CPM) from the front black box was safely retrieved, and the memory module was accessed and downloaded on June 25 at the AAIB lab in Delhi. A multidisciplinary investigation team was formed by the AAIB on June 13. The team comprises Indian and international experts, including aviation technical staff, a specialist in aviation medicine, and an air traffic control officer, in line with global aviation safety norms laid out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). Investigators are working to reconstruct the final moments of Flight AI-171 to determine the root cause of the crash. The ongoing analysis of the CVR and FDR data is expected to provide critical insights into the sequence of events that led to the disaster.

3 killed, 50 injured in stampede during Jagannath Rath Yatra in Puri
At least three devotees were reportedly killed and 50 injured after a stampede-like situation broke out during the Rath Yatra in Odisha's Puri in the early hours of Sunday. According to a report by OTV, the incident happened at Saradhabali near Gundicha Temple where the three chariots of Lord Balabhadra, Goddess Subhadra and Lord Jagannath are stationed. Around 4 am today, a large crowd had reportedly gathered near the Gundicha temple for darshan. This led to a commotion, killing three people on the spot. The report also said that two trucks carrying charmala (ceremonial garlands) entered the area, causing panic among the large number of devotees present. The deceased have been identified as Prabhati Das, Basanti Sahu, and Premakanta Mohanty. The bodies have been sent for postmortem and an investigation is underway. According to Puri District Collector Siddharth S Swain, the injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital. The situation of at least six injured people is critical, he told news agency PTI. Speaking to ANI, Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan said, "It is an unfortunate incident. We are taking note of that. I spoke with the CM this morning. We are taking stringent action." On Friday, June 27, nearly 625 people fell ill and many had to be admitted to hospitals due to sweltering heat and overcrowding. According to PTI, many devotees were also injured near Balagandi area where Lord Balabhadra's Taladwaja chariot remained stuck for over an hour on Friday. "The prolonged halt led to a dense buildup of crowd, resulting in several people getting trapped and sustained injuries while trying to get out of the congested area," PTI quoted an official as saying. The three chariots were scheduled to reach Gundicha temple by the evening of Friday. But they had to be stopped on Grand Road as Lord Balabhadra's Taladwaja chariot got stuck while taking a turn, preventing the other two from advancing. The chariots with deities inside were kept on the road overnight amid tight security. Former CM criticises 'terrible mess' Former chief minister Naveen Patnaik calling the delay a "terrible mess", saying it was impossible not to voice concern over how events unfolded. In a social media post, the former chief minister said, "All we can do is pray.
