India Gazette15 hours ago
Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 13 (ANI): The monsoon season continues to devastate Himachal Pradesh with heavy rains, landslides, flash floods, and infrastructural damage across districts, claiming a total of 95 lives between June 20 and July 12, 2025, according to the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA).
Of these 95 fatalities, a significant 56 deaths have been attributed directly to rain-related disasters, including landslides, flash floods, cloudbursts, and drowning incidents. District-wise data shows Mandi district reporting the highest toll in rain-linked deaths at 17, followed by Kangra (12), and Kullu (3).
In addition to these, the state also recorded 39 deaths due to road accidents, with Solan (6), Chamba (6), and Kullu (7) among the worst-affected districts on this front.
The loss of property and agriculture has also been extensive. The SDMA report mentions a cumulative damage of over Rs 75,195 lakh (Rs 751.95 crore) in terms of public and private property, crops, and livestock. Over 22,453 animals, including 21,500 poultry birds, have perished so far.
As of July 12, 1,026 people have been injured, and 371 houses have been completely destroyed, while 1,093 houses have suffered partial damage due to the persistent onslaught of monsoon-related disasters.
The SDMA continues to operate 24x7 through its Emergency Operations Centre (Helpline 1070), coordinating relief and rescue operations across affected regions.
The state government, in coordination with district administrations and national agencies like NDRF, SDRF, and the Indian Air Force, continues extensive rescue and rehabilitation operations. Relief camps, offline tendering for restoration, and deployment of heavy machinery in landslide-prone zones are ongoing.
PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh has announced interim relief of Rs 2 crore for severely affected assembly constituencies and Rs 50 lakh for others for emergency infrastructure repair.
The state has appealed to the Central Government for increased support, stressing that the crisis transcends political lines and demands collective action.
'This is not the time for political rhetoric. We must rise above party lines and ensure relief reaches every affected citizen,' Singh urged earlier this week.
The SDMA has advised residents to avoid travel in high-risk zones, especially near hillsides and rivers, as rainfall is expected to continue. Continuous monitoring, early warning systems, and rapid response mechanisms remain activated across the state. (ANI)

Chandigarh-Manali highway reopens for traffic

Shimla: The Chandigarh-Manali highway, which was blocked at 4 Mile near Pandoh in Mandi district due to a landslide Saturday afternoon, was reopened for traffic after more than 24 hours Sunday evening. A police officer from Mandi said one-way traffic was allowed on the highway from 5 pm Sunday. With the road being disrupted, commuters on both sides of the highway were forced to spend the night in their vehicles. A groom and around 60 baratis, who were on their way from Sainj in Kullu to Sarkaghat in Mandi, were also stuck. The alternate link road via Kamand-Kataula was also blocked Saturday evening, leaving the commuters with no other option but to stay on the highway. The police had to launch a rescue operation after a few passengers from Punjab tried to get to the other side of the road by crossing the hill, part of which had come down. The passengers got stuck while crossing the hill in the pitch dark and were rescued later by a team of local police. While the search and relief operations continued in the flood-hit areas, 152 roads in Mandi district remained blocked. According to the district emergency operations centre, the highest number of 93 blocked roads was in the Seraj area, followed by 25 in Thalout and 11 in Dharampur sub-divisions. Also, 68 transformers were non-functional on Sunday – 67 in the flood-hit Gohar sub-division alone. Water supply also remained affected in parts of Mandi district as 141 schemes are yet to be restored. The highest number of 89 water supply schemes remained disrupted in the Thunag sub-division of Mandi. Overall, 196 roads remained closed throughout Himachal Pradesh; 73 transformers were non-functional; and 787 water supply schemes remained disrupted – 612 in Kangra district alone. As the situation is gradually improving in the disaster-affected areas, Mandi district administration on Sunday decided that all the educational institutions in Thunag sub-division would be reopened from July 14, except for the schools at Khablech, Bhakalwar, Banyad, Nihir, Bhalwar, Ruhara, Bhulah, Lamsafar, and Naraindhar. These schools will reopen on July 16. According to the state emergency operations centre (SEOC), the death toll in the disaster affected districts of Himachal has reached 98. The maximum number of 21 deaths was reported from Mandi district, followed by 14 in Kangra, 10 in Kullu, nine in Chamba, eight in Hamirpur, seven each in Bilaspur and Shimla, six each in Solan, Una, and Kinnaur, and two each in Lahaul Spiti and Sirmaur districts. As per the SEOC, the state suffered a total loss of around Rs 770.96 crore between June 20 and July 13. MSID:: 122420096 413 |

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 13 (ANI): The monsoon has left a trail of devastation across Himachal Pradesh, claiming 98 lives and causing property damage worth Rs 770.96 crore, according to the latest data released by the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA). Between June 20 and July 13, a total of 57 people died in rain-related incidents such as landslides (8), flash floods (15), cloudbursts (9), drowning (10), electrocution (4), and other rain-triggered accidents, including people falling from rocks or trees (10). Road conditions have deteriorated severely, leading to 41 additional fatalities in traffic accidents, highlighting the dangers of travelling on hilly terrain during heavy rains. The report revealed that Mandi district remains the worst affected, recording 21 deaths, followed by Kangra (14), Kullu (10), Chamba (9), Hamirpur (8) and others. The death toll was further compounded by large-scale losses to livestock and property. The SDMA report states that 22,454 poultry birds and 954 domestic animals have died due to rain-triggered incidents. In addition, more than 375 houses have sustained damage, of which 91 were completely destroyed and 279 partially damaged. Cow sheds, shops, schools, and agricultural lands were also swept away or severely impacted by the rains. The total economic loss is estimated at a staggering Rs 770.96 crore across sectors, including PWD, water supply, power, education, health, fisheries, and urban development. Rescue and restoration efforts are ongoing, with multiple relief camps established across affected areas. The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) has advised people to avoid travel in vulnerable zones and remain alert as more rainfall is forecast in the region. Meanwhile, heavy monsoon rains continued to lash Himachal Pradesh, severely disrupting public utilities and infrastructure across several districts. According to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) report issued at 6:00 PM on Saturday, 196 roads including 1 National Highway have been blocked due to landslides and flooding, while 73 power distribution transformers (DTRs) and 787 water supply schemes have been reported disrupted. The SEOC also confirmed that the majority of road blockages were reported from Mandi district, which alone accounts for 153 blocked roads, including the affected stretch of NH from Mandi to Kullu near 4 Miles and Bindravani. Other affected districts include Kullu (17 roads blocked), Kangra (12), Sirmaur (11), and Una (3). While no fresh human casualties were mentioned in the public utility report itself, earlier updates from the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA), reported a total of 98 deaths across Himachal Pradesh from June 20 to July 12. Of these, 59 deaths were attributed to rain-related incidents including landslides, flash floods, and house collapses, while 41 people died in road accidents during the same period. Restoration efforts are ongoing. According to SEOC officials, several water and sewerage systems affected particularly in Kullu and Mandi have been temporarily repaired to ensure continuity of services. However, access to many remote areas remains cut off. Officials have advised residents and tourists to avoid unnecessary travel in hilly and vulnerable zones, as more rainfall is forecasted in the coming days. (ANI)

Water enters CT scan, MRI room in Odisha after rains; massive waterlogging outside Ajmer station

Heavy rains caused havoc in Odisha, as rainwater entered CT scan and MRI machines' rooms in Odisha's Mayurbhanj on Saturday. Patients and relatives of patients told ANI that they saw water accumulating in the rooms. 'I came here for my father's MRI. After the rain started, water started accumulating in the rooms. This is risky for the patients and the relatives. This can also cause problems related to electricity. I request the concerned people to look into this,' a family member of a patient who came for an MRI scan in Mayurbhanj said. Rains lashed many parts of Rajasthan, with Nasirabad in Ajmer district recording the heaviest rainfall, the weather office said on Thursday. According to a PTI report, the highest rainfall of 163 mm was recorded in Nasirabad (Ajmer), followed by 150 mm in Kotputli (Jaipur), and 110 mm in Behror. Ankle-deep waterlogging was seen outside the Ajmer Railway station, with some passengers calling the stagnant water as 'looking like a river'. 'This doesn't look like a railway station at all, instead it looks like a river. A pond has formed here,' Mohammed Wasim, a passenger from Karnataka, told ANI. 'It is becoming difficult crossing the stagnant water... There is water flowing on the station too, causing a lot of trouble to the travellers,' Babu, another passenger from Karnataka, said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday forecast heavy to very heavy rain in the state, and issued Orange as well as Yellow warnings for the next 24 hours. The warnings have been attributed to an upper air cyclonic circulation. In its midday weather bulletin, the IMD issued an Orange warning for July 14, predicting heavy to very heavy rain, along with thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph. The warning is applicable to Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh districts. A Yellow warning has also been issued for July 14 for the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Angul, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Koraput, Rayagada, and Sambalpur, where heavy rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected. Additionally, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, and Gajapati may also experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds. For July 15, an Orange warning remains in effect for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, and Bargarh, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. A Yellow warning for the same day has been issued for Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Deogarh, Bolangir, Kandhamal, and Kalahandi, with chances of heavy rain and thunderstorms.
