Manipur and Tripura DGPs empanelled for Director General posts in Central forces
Rajiv Singh, Manipur Police chief, and Anurag, Tripura's counterpart, are now empanelled for Director General positions in central forces. The Appointments Committee approved 35 IPS officers for these top posts. Rajiv Singh, a 1993 batch officer, previously served in Tripura and CRPF.
IANS Guwahati: Director General of Manipur Police Rajiv Singh and his Tripura counterpart Anurag were empanelled for Director General (DG) of Central forces. A senior police official in Agartala said that the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the empanelment of the 35 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of 1993 and 1994 batches for holding posts at the Centre at the level of DG or DG equivalent posts. These 35 senior IPS officers are of various cadres across the country.
Rajiv Singh, a Tripura cadre 1993 batch IPS officer, was appointed as Manipur Police chief, replacing P Doungel, one month after the ethnic violence broke out in the northeastern state in May 2023. Singh was earlier the Additional Director General of Tripura Police before joining a central posting as Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and then moved to Manipur. The Tripura government, on May 17, appointed Anurag, an IPS officer of the 1994 batch Tripura cadre, as the state's DGP, replacing Amitabh Ranjan.A senior police official said that Anurag has so far served Tripura in different tenures for around 16 years, and he has vast knowledge in policing in the state. Before his appointment as DGP, Anurag was the Tripura DGP (Intelligence). He served as Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Longtharai Valley, and District Superintendent of Police of undivided West and South Tripura districts, apart from serving as Superintendent of Police, Special Branch and Assistant Inspector General of Police (Headquarters). During 2003-04, Anurag also served in the UN Mission in Kosovo, and from 2005 to 2013, he was on central deputation and served as Superintendent of Police and Deputy Inspector General in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
He served as Tripura Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) from 2013 to 2016. During 2016 to 2023, the IPS officer again went on central deputation and served as Inspector General, Research and Correctional Administration, Bureau of Police Research and Development and Inspector General (Personnel) in the Central Industrial Security Force, besides Joint Director and Additional Director in the CBI.Anurag also served as the Special Investigation Team Chairman (1984 anti-Sikh riots) under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.On September 18, 2023, Anurag assumed the charge of Tripura Additional Director General of Police and was subsequently posted as Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order). He was promoted and posted as the Director General of Police (Intelligence) with the additional charge of Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) with effect from January 2024.

The Maharashtra Police has arrested 15 people and registered FIRs against more than 500 individuals after an irate mob vandalised properties and indulged in arson in Yavat in Pune's Daund tehsil over an objectionable post on social media. Communal tension erupted in Yavat village in Daund tehsil of the city on Friday where several groups of persons vandalised and set ablaze properties over the objectionable content. A huge mob took to the streets to vent their ire and set ablaze a motorcycle and damaged a bakery even as the police lobbed teargas shells to bring the situation under control. Narayan Deshmukh, Yavat police station senior inspector, said 15 people have been arrested so far and remanded in police custody till August 6. Four of the cases are against more than 500 people who were allegedly involved in arson and damage to property. Of these, more than 100 people have been identified," an official from the Yavat police station told PTI. Police said that those involved in the incident targeted a motorcycle, two cars, one religious structure and a bakery. The police had to resort to tear gas shells and lathi-charge to disperse the mob after they indulged in arson. Meanwhile, prohibitory orders have been issued in Yavat and the situation is under control. 'Preliminary report says no planned conspiracy' Superintendent of Police (Pune Rural) Sandeep Singh Gill said the preliminary probe has not indicated to any planned conspiracy in the incident. He, however, said that no conclusions can be drawn until the inquiry is over. "Till Saturday afternoon, police have registered five FIRs in connection with the incident," Gill said, adding that the person whose objectionable post triggered the violence has resided in the village for years. The official also said the police responded quickly to the violence and brought the situation under control. "A large contingent of security personnel, including State Reserve Police Force (SRPF), has been deployed in the village. Authorities also imposed prohibitory orders under Bharatiya Nyaya Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) section 163 and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) section 144 from Friday night. They will remain in place till the situation is assessed further," Gill was quoted as saying by PTI. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar also visited the site on Friday and said the youth who allegedly uploaded the objectionable Whatsapp post hails from Nanded and is a daily wage labourer. He put out an objectionable post related to an incident that took place in Madhya Pradesh, which angered the locals and they resorted to vandalism, Pawar said.

The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) on Saturday called for a united effort with the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Teg Bahadur, the ninth Sikh Guru. DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka In a letter addressed to SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, DSGMC president Harmeet Singh Kalka said the commemoration functions should be held jointly, reflecting the spirit of Panthic unity and honouring Guru Teg Bahadur's supreme sacrifice. 'Guru Teg Bahadur was martyred in Delhi for protection and religious freedom of Hindu religion. There are reports of separate events being planned by the DSGMC and the SGPC. Such a fragmented approach is not befitting the legacy of Guru Sahib,' Kalka stated in his letter. He reminded the SGPC of the past collective efforts that united the Sikh community — the 300th anniversary of Khalsa Foundation Day at Takht Keshgarh Sahib (Anandpur Sahib) in 1999, the 400th birth anniversary of Guru Angad Dev, the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev in 2019 at Sultanpur Lodhi and the tercentenary of the installation of Guru Granth Sahib at Takht Hazur Sahib, Nanded, in 2008. Kalka also requested that the commemoration include remembrance of Bhai Mati Das, Bhai Sati Das and Bhai Dyala Ji, who were martyred alongside Guru Tegh Bahadur.
