IND vs ENG: 'Not picking Kuldeep Yadav has hurt India; you can't expect him to score 100 runs'
India's premier left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has remained on the bench for the first three matches of the five-Test series in England. As the fourth Test at Old Trafford draws closer, Kuldeep's childhood coach Kapil Dev Pandey feels the time has come for the spinner to get his due.
Pandey voiced his belief in Kuldeep's form and readiness, asserting that the spinner can make an impact if given a chance. With India trailing 1-2 in the series — following a loss at Lord's, a thrilling win at Edgbaston, and a defeat at Headingley — pressure is mounting on the visitors to opt for a more balanced bowling attack. Pandey believes Kuldeep could be the missing piece.

'Kuldeep not playing doesn't seem to hold much value in the current context, because Team India has been playing well.
In the third Test, many expected him to feature, but the fast bowlers did the job and picked up wickets,' he told IANS.
Still, Pandey pointed out that Kuldeep is possibly in the best phase of his career right now. 'Kuldeep Yadav is in top form right now. He was lethal during the ODI World Cup and bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament. Not playing him at the right moments has cost India heavily. In the recent matches, it's the batters who have failed, not the bowlers.'

Poll
Should Kuldeep Yadav be included in the playing XI for the fourth Test?
Yes, he deserves a chance
No, stick with the current bowlers
'You can't expect someone like Kuldeep or even Bumrah to score 100 runs — that would be unrealistic.'
Kuldeep, who made his Test debut in March 2017, has featured in just 13 matches so far despite performing consistently when given opportunities. His coach, however, is confident that the 29-year-old remains focused and prepared.

With Old Trafford known to assist spinners, particularly in the latter half of the match, Kuldeep's variety could offer India better control in the middle overs — an area that has proved challenging in the series so far.
Commenting on India's bowling composition, Pandey said the pacers have done well but leaving out Kuldeep has been a missed opportunity.
IND vs ENG: Team India's plan, practice schedule and weather forecast in Manchester
'I've spoken to Kuldeep recently, and I told him to stay fit and be ready to deliver whenever given a chance.
All we can do is hope — the final decision lies with the coach and the captain. But there's no doubt that Kuldeep is currently one of the finest and most senior spinners in the country.
'Yes, his morale is high, but deep down he must also be wondering when he'll get his chance — after all, he's only human,' Pandey said. 'He can be a crucial asset for Team India in Manchester. I spoke to him; he's focused.'
As India aim to bounce back in the fourth Test, calls for Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion are growing stronger — and Manchester might finally mark his return to red-ball cricket.

India vs England 4th Test: Team India Plays Hanuman Chalisa In Dressing Room To Boost Morale Before Manchester Clash
With the series finely poised at 2-1 in England's favour, Team India kicked off their preparations for the fourth Test in Manchester with a relaxed yet spirited training session at Kent County Cricket Ground in Beckenham. Having narrowly lost the Lord's Test by just 22 runs, the squad seemed determined to shake off the disappointment — not through intense drills, but by invoking good vibes through a unique blend of music in the dressing room. #WATCH | United Kingdom: Team India arrived in Beckenham for a practice session ahead of their fourth Test match against England. Team England is leading the 5-match Test series by 2-1. — ANI (@ANI) July 17, 2025 #WATCH | Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh has sustained an injury ahead of the fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. Visuals from Team India's practice session in Beckenham, United Kingdom. — ANI (@ANI) July 17, 2025 From Hanuman Chalisa echoing off the walls to English pop and Punjabi bangers energizing the mood, the Indian camp turned to a mix of spiritual calm and youthful exuberance. The Shubman Gill-led side understands the enormity of the task ahead, but the dressing room ambiance sent a clear message: the fight isn't over, and the belief is unwavering. Light Moments and Heavy Stakes: Bumrah, Pant Join in Banter As the squad descended from the team bus after a tiring ride from London, the picturesque Beckenham setting lifted their visibly jaded spirits. Rishabh Pant and Jasprit Bumrah, both crowd favourites and central to India's Test hopes, kept the atmosphere light with humorous banter. When a journalist tried conversing with Pant from afar — unable to hear over the dressing room's music — Bumrah quipped, 'Aaj Duggal ji behere hain,' referencing a popular Bollywood line and evoking laughter from the press corps. Pant, nursing a minor finger injury, and Bumrah, undergoing workload management, stuck to warm-ups and gym work, sparking speculation about their availability for the Manchester clash. Injury Alarm: Arshdeep Singh Suffers Hand Cut During Nets While the vibe was light-hearted, Team India were dealt an injury concern when left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh hurt his bowling hand. The 26-year-old was bowling alongside Prasidh Krishna when he attempted to stop a fiercely struck ball from Sai Sudharsan. The ball clipped his fingers, leaving a visible cut and forcing him off the nets. India's assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate later confirmed the incident, saying, 'He took a ball while bowling, it's a cut. The medical team will assess if stitches are needed. That will impact planning for the next few days.' Arshdeep was seen walking with a bandaged hand, casting doubt over his availability for the crucial fourth Test. Coaching Staff Step Up, Morkel 'Claims Five-Fer' With both Arshdeep and Akash Deep not bowling, India's bowling coach Morne Morkel stepped in — quite literally — rolling his arm over during nets. Though he admitted he couldn't replicate Jofra Archer's express pace, Morkel provided meaningful overs for the batters. 'It's about giving the batters quality practice, especially when we're short on bowlers for a session. It's also fun. Morne went back claiming a five-wicket haul,' laughed ten Doeschate, keeping the mood buoyant.

IND vs ENG 2025: 'You win by ...' - Ajinkya Rahane urges India to change XI for Manchester must-win Test
India captain Shubman Gill speaks with coach Gautam Gambhir during a net session. (Getty Images) NEW DELHI: With India trailing 1-2 in the five-match Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane has issued a stirring call to the team management ahead of the crucial fourth Test in Manchester: "You're going to win a Test match or a Test series by getting 20 wickets." Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Rahane's comments come after India's narrow 22-run loss at Lord's, despite packing their XI with all-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, and Nitish Kumar Reddy - all of whom made useful contributions. The strategy, rooted in head coach Gautam Gambhir 's preference for batting depth, has yielded mixed results in the longer format. Poll Should India consider adding an extra bowler for the upcoming Test match? Yes, it's crucial for victory No, the current strategy works Only if the pitch demands it Undecided 'We all know that Day 4 and 5 get slightly difficult to bat on. It's not easy to score runs,' Rahane explained on his YouTube channel. 'Yes, England bowled really well. But I felt India missed an opportunity to get that big score on the board in the first innings. Also, going forward, India should look to add one extra bowler - because you're going to win a Test match or a Test series by getting 20 wickets.' Exclusive | First look of the Old Trafford pitch India's selection dilemma is now sharper than ever. With the batting-heavy strategy not delivering wins, Rahane's call to bolster the bowling attack presents a critical decision point for captain Shubman Gill and Gambhir. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo Rahane also praised Ben Stokes for a pivotal fielding moment that turned the tide at Lord's. 'It's very easy for the fielder to get relaxed when you see only two or three balls left before lunch. But his attitude towards the ball, his intensity, and getting that run-out - that's where I felt England came into the game.' At the time, India were 40 for 1 and cruising, but the run-out followed by Karun Nair's LBW dismissal shifted momentum. 'That was a turning point,' Rahane noted. 'England's bowling tightened up, their fielding intensity increased, and they showed great character.' After Lord's heartbreak, Team India start training for Manchester, in London! Despite a strong fightback from India later, Rahane admitted they were '75–100 runs short' in the first innings. He singled out KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant's partnership as a highlight, but emphasised that without taking 20 wickets, victories will remain elusive.
