Logie Awards in chaos: Guests and reality stars barred from walking red carpet and attending event

Daily Maila day ago
Australia's biggest TV awards night is facing fresh controversy, with claims of broadcaster bias, snubs and an extraordinary media ban casting a shadow over the 65th TV Week Logie Awards.
According to The Daily Telegraph, Destination NSW – the state's tourism body – pumps a fortune into the event to ensure it's held in Sydney.
While the exact figure remains under wraps, Melbourne previously shelled out around $1million for the honour.
In return, Destination NSW gets some glossy drone shots of the Harbour Bridge in the broadcast, a few 'Feel New Sydney' tourism ads and a table at the glamorous ceremony.
But when the organisation reportedly invited a handful of top-tier journalists to join them at their table, organisers allegedly swooped in and revoked the invitations.

The move has been branded not only embarrassing for Destination NSW, but 'absurd' given the long-standing relationship between the media and the Logies.
A few years ago, organisers quietly banned media from being in the room altogether – a policy that began when the awards were held in the smaller Gold Coast venue.
But now that the event is staged at Sydney's sprawling Star Casino Events Centre, critics say there's more than enough room for the entire press pack.
Adding to the farce, many of this year's nominees are journalists themselves – with two of the Gold Logie contenders and 24 Silver Logie nominees coming from journalism or current affairs programs.
And it's not just the media missing out.
Most of the cast of The Real Housewives of Sydney have been left off the guest list, despite the show being up for an award.
Sources claim only Sally Obermeder has been invited to walk the red carpet.
Meanwhile, the stars of Married At First Sight have also been snubbed, with Channel Nine only extending an invite for experts John Aiken, Mel Schilling and Alessandra Rampolla.
Speaking to Daily Mail this week, expert John Aiken admitted that despite dominating the ratings every year, the reality series has never been recognised with a win on Australian TV's night of nights.
'We have never won anything at the Logies,' Aiken admitted.
'But we're pretty happy with the ratings that we have. At the end of the day it all comes down to who's prepared to vote.
'The shows that win usually have people who get online and vote. With MAFS, while we have a lot of committed viewers, they don't seem to vote.'
Aiken said the team does not measure success by trophies.
'We don't do it to get a Logie, we do it because it's fun, it's exciting and a lot of people watch it. The real prize is the huge audience engagement we get every year,' he said.
This year, like in the past, many MAFS cast members have been left off the official Logies guest list, something Aiken says is out of everyone's hands.
'It's a privilege to be invited, but it's completely out of my hands and out of the hands of the talent. Every year people are going to miss out, but you have no control over it,' he explained.
And even if the show did win a Logie, Aiken joked it would be risky to let some of the brides or grooms accept the award.
'You'd have no idea what they're going to say,' he said with a laugh.
'They're very brave people who put themselves out there and I'm grateful to them for doing the show, but you never know what they'll do once filming wraps.'
Aiken says that while the Logies may elude them, the show's reach is undeniable.
'It's now in its 13th season and it just keeps growing. It's sold into over 120 countries and it's consistently high in the ratings here. We keep putting out a high-quality product that people respond to,' John said.

Australia's first Golden Bachelor Barry 'Bear' Myrden reveals his shock real age: 'You look incredible!'

Channel Nine's Golden Bachelor Australia is fast approaching TV screens and now a major spoiler has dropped about the leading man. Barry 'Bear' Myrden, who will be Australia's first ever Golden Bachelor, graced the Logies red carpet on Sunday where entertainment journalist Justin Hill asked him the question we've all been wondering. 'Can you officially reveal to us your age or is it a secret?' he asked Bear, who looked dapper in a bowtie and tuxedo. The reality star looked over nervously at his publicist to get the go-ahead, before coming clean about how old he is. 'I'm 61,' he revealed, leaving Justin shocked. 'Wow, you look incredible!' the journalist said, gobsmacked. Hoping to get to the bottom of the bachelor's youthful appearance, he then asked: 'Have you always been a very active person?' 'I've always been very active but I always tell people I'm Canadian, so I've been frozen for half my life,' Bear joked. Channel Nine officially announced the identity of Australia's first Golden Bachelor last Friday. The new matchmaking series began production in February, with glamorous senior ladies flying into Sydney from across the country to win the heart of Bear. He will be the inaugural Golden Bachelor of Australia, with TV star Samantha Armytage set to host the series. The silver fox was spotted filming scenes for the show in March, and was seen piloting a retro Italian speedboat across Sydney Harbour. His leading ladies arrived on set soon after, pulling out every trick in the book to woo the infrastructure engineer. Among the gaggle of gals was a famous face many viewers may recognise from TV and radio, Bianca Dye. Bianca, 51, shot to fame in the 1990s when she hosted the 92.5 Gold FM radio show The Nitemix Across Australia with Bianca Dye. After decades of working across the industry in Sydney and Brisbane, with several stints in television, Bianca now hosts a breakfast program on Sea FM 90.9. The Golden Bachelor Australia season one will see the women compete for the heart of Bear, a father-of-three and respected professional in the tech industry. Bear currently works in Data Centre Management for Woolworths Group. With decades of experience in his field, he has held senior roles at major companies like Macquarie Bank and the NSW Port Authority. But while his career has flourished, sources close to Daily Mail Australia have revealed his personal journey has been marked by tragedy, as Bear is widowed. 'Bear is always complaining that his boys are saying that he is bringing around the wrong kind of girls that are just too young and hot for him,' one friend revealed. 'We were always saying that he needs to be put on a show like MAFS, so seeing him up for the Bachelor role is no surprise.' Unlike The Bachelor and The Bachelorette, which feature young men and women, The Golden Bachelor is targeted at a more mature audience. 'Bear is not your usual reality TV type,' an insider told Daily Mail Australia. 'He's charming, intelligent and has really lived a full life. He's been through love, loss and now he's ready to open his heart again. Women are going to adore him.'

Guess who! Hollywood icon hides her face with a mask as she touches down at Sydney Airport

Jamie Lee Curtis has arrived Down Under. The acting icon flew into Sydney International Airport on Monday ahead of the Freakier Friday Australian premiere. The 66-year-old attempted to go incognito as she touched down, wearing a pair of oversized sunglasses and a black face mask to hide her famous features. She kept a low profile by wearing an all-black ensemble, which included a blazer and dark scarf. The actress accessorised the travel day fit with not one, but two, Goyard bags, which are estimated to retail for around $10,000 AUD together. Despite attempting to go under the radar, Jamie Lee was instantly recognisable thanks to her signature grey pixie haircut and slender build. The American actress, who is set to attend the Australian premiere of her latest movie alongside Lindsay Lohan, recently revealed the reason behind the 22-year wait for a Freaky Friday sequel. In 2003, Jamie Lee starred in the now-smash hit comedy, which sees the two characters switch bodies, with hilarity ensuing. Fans had long hoped for a sequel to the iconic comedy but had an agonising wait, as Freakier Friday is only now hitting cinemas - over two decades on from the original. Now, Jamie Lee has revealed why there was such a long gap between the two releases as she admitted she has long had her eye on a follow-up movie. Appearing on last week's The One Show, Jamie revealed they had to wait until Lindsay, 39, was old enough to have a teenage child for the sequel premise to work. 'The truth is that Lindsay had to be old enough to have a 15-year-old daughter, people would ask me about the movie over and over again,' she shared. 'And finally someone in Australia said, "well she is" and I was like "what do you mean?" because I know her as this young girl, so I don't know how old she is. 'Someone told me and I was, like, "Oh! Well maybe we can make the movie. Let's go!"' Lindsay was just 15 years old when she first portrayed Anna Coleman in Freaky Friday alongside Jamie Lee, who played her on-screen mother Tess Coleman. It follows the bickering mother and daughter after a Chinese restaurant fortune cookie mishap causes them to switch bodies, forcing them to live the other's life. Despite barely having been able to see eye-to-eye, the magical switch eventually allows them to see things from the other's point of view. The sequel will see the iconic pairing switch places once again, though this time there is quadruple chaos in store.
