Hyderabad city lake ready for grand Bathukamma fest 2025
HYDRAA, with support from the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), began restoration of the 14.02-acre lake in February this year at an estimated cost of Rs 9.8 crore. Minor works are underway at a brisk pace and are expected to be completed by early September. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is monitoring the progress and has directed officials to ensure timely completion.
HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath said that flood management is a key part of the lake restoration. Over one kilometre of the outlet nala, which did not exist earlier, is being restored. This is expected to significantly reduce flooding in surrounding areas. Inlets are also being revived to improve the lake's drainage system.

New Delhi: When it first came up, the ITO skywalk dazzled people. With its smooth curves, shimmering glass panels and landscaped patches weaving through steel and stone, the structure felt like a bold urban statement—an elevated stretch of design that merged mobility with style. Even from a distance, its sweeping shape captured attention. But today, that shine has dulled. Quite literally, the lights are going out. To facilitate safe and seamless pedestrian movement across Tilak Marg, Sikandra Road, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Mathura Road—towards Pragati Maidan Metro Station—a large network of public walkways was developed. This included a 400-metre-long skywalk, which features a loop and ramp. Additionally, a 54-metre-long foot overbridge (FOB) near Hans Bhawan connects crucial points in the area. Completed in 2018 at a cost of nearly Rs 54 crore, the project was hailed as one of Delhi's most ambitious pedestrian projects. Much of the LED lighting at the architecture that once gave the bridge its after-hours glow now lies in disrepair. Some stretches shine brightly, while others remain completely dark. Decorative facade lights have stopped working in several places, and in patches, the walkway plunges into an uneasy shadow. The contrast is stark and jarring. What once sparkled now flickers like a forgotten festival light. Meanwhile, the skywalk, though visibly cleaner, has several maintenance issues: hanging tubelights, a leaking ceiling as at one point, missing outer LED lights similar to the FOB, and exposed electrical equipment. One section of the skywalk wall also has tobacco stains. The project was envisioned to link high-traffic nodes, including the ITO junction. With over 25 major offices and institutions in the vicinity, including the police headquarters, PWD Bhawan, GST office, Supreme Court, Lady Irwin College and Vikas Minar, nearly 30,000 pedestrians navigate the nearby roads daily. The ITO skywalk can still be the iconic connector in the heart of the capital. But unless upkeep returns to the blueprint, it risks becoming what many public projects in the city quietly turn into—a brilliant idea left dimmed by disinterest. Over 1800 bridges inspected in Gujarat, 133 shut down as precautionary measure
The Roads and Buildings (R&B) department officials, in a week, have inspected over 1800 bridges in Gujarat during their spot visits and closed 133 of them as a precautionary measure, an official release said. The release also said that out of the 133 bridges, 20 were closed for all vehicles and 113 were closed only for heavy vehicles. The official release quoted the information provided by senior minister and spokesperson of Gujarat government Rushikesh Patel. Patel was briefing the media about the weekly cabinet meeting of the state chaired by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The cabinet meeting reviewed some important actions taken by the R&B department. The release said: 'Out of these 133 bridges, 20 have been closed for all vehicles. Whereas, 113 bridges have been closed for heavy vehicles while the movement for light vehicles' has been kept on. Non-destructive tests (NDT) have been done on those 133 bridges and the work of repair, strengthening or re-construction have been started on war footing as per requirement.' These 133 bridges also include nine bridges on Narmada canal network; five of them have been closed for all vehicles and four for heavy vehicles. The five bridges closed for all vehicles are in Morbi and Surendranagar districts. Whereas, the four closed for heavy vehicles are in Ahmedabad and Patan districts. There are around 2110 bridges passing through the canal network in the state, as per an official release. Meanwhile, Patel also said that following the CM's instructions, the tender of Rs 212 crore has been issued to construct a new additional bridge near Gambhira bridge in Vadodara. On July 9, the Gambhira bridge collapse resulted in the deaths of at least 20 people. 'In general circumstances, the time limit to build such a bridge is 18 months. But in the case of Gambhira bridge, by doing a department-level review and to ensure that people get the facility early, the Chief Minister has issued instructions to complete the work by next monsoon — in 12 months. Accordingly, the work will start in the next three months,' the release said.

Shirdi temple receives 6 crore in donations during Guru Purnima
Nashik: The Shirdi Saibaba temple collected over Rs6.3 crore as donations from devotees during the three-day Guru Purnima festival from July 9 to 11. The CEO of Shree Saibaba Sansthan Trust (SSST) in Shirdi, Goraksha Gadilkar, said that the footfall at the temple during the festival was over three lakhs. He said, "We received over Rs 1.8 crore in cash in the donation boxes. Similarly, a section of the devotees donated over Rs 1.1 crore at the donation counters and over Rs 2 crore through debit/credit cards, online donations, cheques, pass fees and money orders. Some devotees also donated gold and silver worth over Rs 63 lakh," he added. Furthermore, over 1.8 lakh devotees had food at the Prasadalay and more than 1.7 lakh devotees in queues were distributed 'prasad'. Meanwhile, the SSST also collected Rs 64 lakh through the sale of Bundi Laddo packets. There were devotees from other parts of the country, especially from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Thousands of devotees stayed at the additional pandal set up for Guru Purnima, apart from the accommodation facility of Sai Prasad Niwas Sthan, Saibaba Bhakta Niwas Sthan, Dwarvati Niwas Sthan, Sai Ashram Niwas Sthan, and Sai Dharam Shala. Gadilkar added that the donations from devotees will be used for SSST's Prasadalay, hospitals, and for providing other facilities to the devotees.
