Is the honeymoon over for Commanders' Josh Harris?

There is often a honeymoon period until it too concludes.
Rick Snider's Washington says Washington Commanders owner Josh Harris' honeymoon with fans is over. Gimme one minute. pic.twitter.com/B68MuMbspC

Perhaps no one in the DMV has been more loved than Josh Harris was in July 2023. Harris had just been granted by the NFL approval for his new ownership of the Commanders.
Training camp was beginning, and the fans not only came out in great numbers, but the atmosphere was actually celebratory.
Though the team played horribly, Ron Rivera, Jack Del Rio, and Eric Bieniemy proved to be a major disappointment, and the team finished 4-13, Harris went unscathed.
Harris had arrived and taken the helm at his initial press conference, using the word 'Redskins' and the fan base was electric. Not only was Daniel Snyder gone, but Harris was bringing back the name 'Redskins' because, after all, he had used the word 'Redskins.'
That's how 'logic' works for many people these days. Simply listen to some of the political pundits on television. They can reach conclusions that are simply not via logical reasoning. They hear what they want to hear.
I have loved the 'Redskins' franchise since my childhood. My first 'Redskins' memories go back to the 1969 season, and I've been following them closely (too closely) ever since.
I was upset when the name was changed. I knew the actual history of how the name 'Redskins' was adopted for the 1933 season, and it was not to demean Native Americans.
By 2020, the opposition had reached the point where NFL owners were not being supportive publicly of the name 'Redskins.' They were caving under public pressure. Without that support, 'Redskins' would soon die.
Harris probably still prefers 'Redskins.' However, he is not stupid. He is fully aware NFL owners would not back such a proposal. He is also fully aware there would be an instant national outcry, slandering him as a 'racist.'
Harris also knows the Commanders just enjoyed a hugely successful season. The first winning season following four losing seasons since 'Redskins' was dropped.
He is altogether certain he will sell more Commanders merchandise and season tickets this offseason. He is also confident in winning as they did, helping many more accept 'Commanders.'
Yes, he will lose some who refuse to accept anything other than 'Redskins' be the name of their team. Yet, as the team continues to win, making the fan base proud of their team, 'Commanders' will become easier to accept.
Though I still wish the name was 'Redskins,' there will be more and more of us putting winning on the field as the core value, and the name will become more of a peripheral value.
Yes, for some, the honeymoon is over for Josh Harris. But he actually never said he was going to bring back 'Redskins.'
Harris continues to pour money into improving Northwest Stadium and the Ashburn facility. He also made huge scores hiring Adam Peters and Dan Quinn.
And now Harris has Jayden Daniels as well.

30 Most Important Bears of 2025: D'Andre Swift (No. 15)

The Chicago Bears are gearing up for an exciting 2025 NFL season, which features some new faces within the organization poised to get the franchise back to its winning ways. That starts with the hiring of Ben Johnson as head coach, as well as overhauling the interior offensive line, adding pieces on defense and a potenital impactful rookie draft class. Every day from now right up through training camp, we're counting down our 30 Most Important Bears for the 2025 season. We'll recap their 2024 season, look ahead to 2025 and tackle the biggest question facing them this year. Next up at No. 15 is running back D'Andre Swift, who needs to prove worthy of the massive contract the Bears gave him last offseason and will be key to the success of Chicago's run game. Background Position: Running back Age: 26 Experience: 6th season 2025 cap hit: $9.33 million 2024 recap The Bears had several free-agent options at running back last offseason, and they opted to go with D'Andre Swift, whose first season in Chicago was up-and-down. It was a disastrous start for Swift, who had just 31 rushing yards through three weeks. But he did follow that up with 388 rushing yards and four touchdowns the ensuing four weeks. Swift fell just short of 1,000 rushing yards, and he had just one game where he rushed for 100-plus yards (where he had 129 rushing yards in a Week 8 loss to the Washington Commanders). Overall, Swift was inconsistent as a rusher, due in part to his own struggles and a weak offensive line. He did show he can be a dynamic weapon out of the backfield, and he did have several long runs of 36, 39, and 59 yards. While Swift did start every game for the Bears, it was an overall inconsistent year that left a lot to be desired. 2025 outlook Swift enters the 2025 season entrenched as the lead back in a room including Roschon Johnson and rookie Kyle Monangai. The former Detroit Lion is also reunited with his former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who has an understanding of how to utilize Swift. Following a disappointing first season in Chicago, Swift is looking to bounce back -- and he'll get to do so behind a revamped offensive line that includes newcomers Joe Thuney, Drew Dalman and Jonah Jackson. When looking at Johnson's offense, the run game is a vital component, and Swift has the potential to play a key role. With Johnson, new running backs coach Eric Bieniemy and an improved offensive line, Swift could be poised for a bounce-back season. Big question: Does Swift have a future in Chicago? There's a ton of pressure on Swift to perform in 2025 following an underwhelming first year in Chicago. There were plenty of reports that the Bears were looking to draft a running back -- be it Ashton Jeanty or TreVeyon Henderson -- indicating Ben Johnson is looking for a home run hitter in the run game. While Chicago drafted Kyle Monangai in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft, he's not an immediate threat to Swift -- but that doesn't mean he won't become one. Swift needs to prove worthy of the three-year, $24 million deal that the Bears signed him to last offseason. If he doesn't have a bounce-back year -- especially reunited with Johnson -- then he could very be a salary cap casualty as it would only cost Chicago $1.33 million in dead money. 30 Most Important Bears of 2025 #30 - RB Roschon Johnson #29 - QB Case Keenum #28 - K Cairo Santos #27 - DT Andrew Billings #26 - CB Tyrique Stevenson #25 - WR Luther Burden III #24 - RG Jonah Jackson #23 - LB Tremaine Edmunds #22 - DE Dayo Odeyingbo #21 - S Kevin Byard #20 - S Jaquan Brisker #19 - LB T.J. 30 Most Important Bears of 2025: Montez Sweat (No. 8)

At No. 8 is defensive end Montez Sweat, the go-to pass rusher on the defensive line who needs a bounce-back season in 2025. Background Position: Defensive end Age: 28 Experience: 7th season 2025 cap hit: $25 million 2024 recap The Bears got a head start on addressing their pass rush woes during the 2023 season when they acquired Sweat from the Washington Commanders at the trade deadline. After signing him to a lucrative four-year extension, Sweat became the anchor on the defensive line and had high expectations placed upon him after a stellar initial stretch in Chicago. Unfortunately, he failed to meet those expectations during a frustrating season. Sweat's production dipped across the board as he finished with 5.5 sacks, 32 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, and two forced fumbles. Injuries did play a role, as he was banged up for much of the year and did his best to play through any lingering issues, and he was a primary focus for offensive lines, but he wasn't the same player Bears fans saw at the end of the 2023 season. 2025 outlook Many returning Bears players would like to forget the 2024 season after all that went down, and Sweat is no exception. He's already off to a good start, as general manager Ryan Poles singled him out for his constant offseason work and preparation inside Halas Hall. Sweat also has the chance to shine in defensive coordinator Dennis Allen's system as a bigger defensive end, and the hope is he can take advantage of more one-on-one blockers with the additions of Dayo Odeyingbo and Grady Jarrett. There's a chance Sweat also lines up across the line in unique packages to take advantage of mismatches, which could lead to an increase in production. Regardless, Sweat is a pivotal piece of the defense. Big question: Is Sweat an elite pass rusher? Since coming into the league, Sweat has been one of the better all-around defensive ends in the league. He's averaged over 8.5 sacks and 11 tackles for loss throughout his career. But 2023 was the only season in which he proved he's a true difference maker. That begs the question if Sweat is truly one of the best defensive ends in the NFL or simply a good one who is paid like a great one. With a change in scheme, we'll see just how good Sweat can be in 2025. If he bounces back and produces like he did in 2023, the Bears defense should excel. If he has another year that fails to meet expectations, Sweat will be seen as one of the more overpaid players in the NFL, and his contract will start to become a problem. 30 Most Important Bears of 2025 #30 - RB Roschon Johnson #29 - QB Case Keenum #28 - K Cairo Santos #27 - DT Andrew Billings #26 - CB Tyrique Stevenson #25 - WR Luther Burden III #24 - RG Jonah Jackson #23 - LB Tremaine Edmunds #22 - DE Dayo Odeyingbo #21 - S Kevin Byard #20 - S Jaquan Brisker #19 - LB T.J.
