Maoists kill two tribal villagers in separate incidents in Bastar

RAIPUR: Two tribal locals were brutally killed by Maoists in Bijapur district of Bastar division in Chhattisgarh on the intervening night of Monday. Bastar police in a statement issued, said that the incident took place in Tarrem region when 4 to 5 unidentified, armed Maoists attacked and killed two men using sharp-edged weapons at villages located 6-8 kms apart, having a security camp in between. The victims were accused of working as police informers and the violence was carried by two separate groups of Maoists. The Maoists had dragged the victims out of their houses and murdered them in front of the villagers, police said. The victims have been identified as Kawasi Joga (approximately 55 years old), a resident of village Chhutwai, and Manglu Kursam (approximately 50 years old) from village Bada Tarrem. Kawasi was killed at around 1030 pm and Manglu around 2.30 am. Police officials from Bastar have confirmed receiving information about the incident and are currently verifying the details. A team of cops was sent to the remote village for probe. Security forces have recovered handwrittenwritten leaflets from the spots of crime. One of leaflet, stained in blood, stated that Manglu was working as police informer and despite several warnings, he didn't abide by the instructions given, hence, killed. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo The Jagargunda area committee of CPI (Maoists) claimed the responsibility of the killing. Another leaflet by Pamed area committee stated the same for deceased Kawasi. With back-to-backto back incidents of violence and killings in past six months, Bijapur and Narayanpur districts of Bastar division are on the top worst insurgency-affected places in the country, a CRPF official told TOI. He said, be it anti-Naxal operations, encounters, killing of civilians, recovery of blasting of IEDs, surrenders or arrests, two districts of Bastar are making it to the top in the list of insurgency. Over ten civilians have been killed by Maoists in past 25 days including two school teachers in Bijapur district. Those on the target are mostly the relatives of surrendered cadres, or the surrendered ones themselves, or others are accused of working as police informers. Local villagers are the among the easy accessible people for Maoists and are the most vulnerable ones, hence the threat of Maoists looms low upon those residing in interior regions of Bastar. Besides, the locals become victim to IEDs planted by Maoists to target security personnel. On Sunday, a 16-year-old boy sustained severe injuries after coming in contact with a pressure IED that went off. He is presently receiving treatment and is in a poor condition.

Jharkhand on alert for ‘attacks on security sites' after Maoists' bandh call to mark their leaders' killings

The Jharkhand Police issued an alert across several districts, warning of potential attacks on security installations, particularly military camps, following a call for bandh on August 3 by the banned CPI (Maoist). According to senior officials, the bandh is being called as part of a memorial campaign by Maoists to commemorate top leaders of the outfit who have were recently killed in encounters, such as General Secretary Basavaraju and Politburo member Vivek alias Karam. Besides Jharkhand, the bandh is expected to be observed in Bihar, northern Chhattisgarh, Assam, and West Bengal. According to a press statement issued by the CPI (Maoist)'s Eastern Regional Bureau (ERB), events are being organised in two phases — from June 11 to August 3 — in honour of its slain leaders and cadres. Maoist leader Basavaraju was killed in a 60‑hour encounter with police and security forces in the Gundekot hills of Chhattisgarh on May 21. IG (Operations) Michael Raj said, 'Intelligence indicates possible attacks on military camps around August 3. We are fully prepared. We're also alert to threats against railway tracks, roads, stations, bridges, police outposts, and other government establishments.' As per police officials, the CPI (Maoist) is leveraging the memorial calls as part of a broader mobilisation effort, expected to include group meetings, public rallies, and a one‑day shutdown in Bihar, Jharkhand, north Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Assam. Police officers are closely monitoring the situation and are on standby to secure sensitive spots and maintain public order across the state, officials said.

CM Yogi warns against defaming Kanwariyas, Kanwar Yatra

LUCKNOW: Cautioning against 'defaming' Kanwariyas or Kanwar Yatra, UP CM Yogi Adityanath said his government would act strictly by naming and shaming them publicly those who would be caught creating ruckus during the Yatra. Speaking at an event near Dulhera Chowki in Meerut on Sunday, the UP CM also urged the devotees to practise restraint and desist from taking the law into their hands. However, the CM showered flowers on kanwariyas during his Meerut visit while returning from Delhi. Meanwhile, the CM's assertion came a day after seven kanwariyas were booked for assaulting a CRPF personnel in Mirzapur. On Sunday, three of the Kanwariyas were held by the district police. However, smelling a rat in the entire controversy, the CM said: 'If anyone creates ruckus to defame the Kanwar Yatra, then we have CCTV footage of all of them. After the Kanwar Yatra is over, their posters would be displayed in public.' 'Where there is enthusiasm, excitement, faith and devotion, some elements will constantly try to disturb that bonhomie and defame the devotion and faith…Unmask them, keep them away from you at all costs. Do not allow them to enter your circle. … approach the administration instead of taking the law into your hands,' added CM Yogi. 'Sayiyam banana chahiye.. Hum Kanwar Yatra jo leja rahe dusaron ki bhi pareshaniyon ko samjhen (Show restraint… We need to understand the problem of others),' he said while asking the Kanwariyas to be within the limit of law and order.
