Gangavaram-NH-16 corridor and Bhogapuram access route proposals will be fast-tracked, says NHAI Chairman

The Hindu17-07-2025
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao met NHAI Chairman Santhosh Kumar Yadav in New Delhi, seeking expedited sanction and implementation of the long-pending Gangavaram Port–NH-16 connectivity road via Tungalam.
They said that despite the completion of a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR), the project was shelved by the previous YSRCP government, resulting in crippling port access, worsening urban congestion, and missed economic opportunities for the region.
With Gangavaram Port's cargo throughput expected to surge from 2,500 to over 6,000 trucks per day, the current Gajuwaka corridor, which is dotted by dense residential zones, is now functionally obsolete.
The proposed alignment, formulated through exhaustive studies, strategically passes through industrial and railway lands, ensuring minimal displacement while offering a dedicated high-capacity logistics artery.
In addition to pressing for the port road, the TDP leaders urged the NHAI to extend the existing highway infrastructure with grade-separated flyovers towards Bhogapuram International Airport, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity between Visakhapatnam city, the port, and the upcoming airport.
The proposed extension would ease traffic chokepoints and support Visakhapatnam as a multi-modal logistics and aviation hub on India's eastern seaboard.
Mr. Sribharat emphasised the urgent need to remove bottlenecks that have held back Visakhapatnam's rise as a modern port city. He said the city's future lies in integrated connectivity, and that the road to Bhogapuram must match the standards of upcoming greenfield airports across India.
Mr. Srinivasa Rao echoed this urgency, stating that infrastructure decisions must not be mired in politics or neglect. He said that the TDP was committed to restoring long-delayed projects and pushing for coordination between the State and the Centre.
Mr. Santhosh Kumar Yadav acknowledged the delays and assured the delegation that both the Gangavaram–NH-16 corridor and the Bhogapuram access route proposals would be reviewed with priority, with sanctioning and planning to be fast-tracked.

Survey for Dehradun-Saharanpur line on, no timeline fixed: Railway minister

Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 26 (PTI) Survey for a new 81-km line from Saharanpur to Dehradun via Shakumbhari Devi has been sanctioned, but no deadline is yet fixed, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has told the Rajya Sabha. In a written reply he gave on Friday, he said the survey work has been taken up for preparation of Detailed Project Report. He said the project is now up for consultation with various stakeholders, including the state governments, and seeking necessary approvals, such as the appraisal of NITI Aayog and Ministry of Finance. Vaishnaw said, 'Railway infrastructure projects are taken up on the basis of remunerativeness, traffic projections, last mile connectivity, missing links and alternate routes, augmentation of congested/saturated lines socio-economic considerations etc. depending upon liabilities of ongoing projects, overall availability of funds and competing demands." CBI probe demanded into Vaikunta Ekadasi stampede

Tirupati: Rejecting the Judicial Commission report on Tirupati Vaikunta Ekadasi stampede, the YSRCP demanded a CBI inquiry on the stampede which claimed 6 lives of devotees and leaving 15 injured, to unearth the truth, find out the reasons behind the stampede and those who were actually responsible for the tragedy. Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, senior YSRCP leader and former TTD chairman Bhumana Karunakar Reddy dubbed the report as selective and spared higher officials and made lower rung officials as scapegoats. He pointed that the Commission in its report sought punishment for Gosala Director Harinath Reddy who was the in-charge for the Q line at Bairagipatteda ticket counter but spared another senior official, executive engineer Surya Prakash, who was also the in-charge of the counter from any punishment. Karunakar Reddy alleged that the report was as scripted by Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu and ignored those who were actually responsible including from TTD, revenue and police. He further said top officials including TTD chief vigilance and security officer (CVSO) and Tirupati district SP were responsible for the law and order while the police and TTD vigilance were actually responsible for Q lines maintenance and orderly movement of pilgrims at the token counters but none of them were indicted by the Commission revealing its selective nature and it was made as desired by CM Naidu. Reddy said the Commission report was only an eye wash and hurt the sentiments of the devotees while reiterating his demand for CBI inquiry to find out the circumstances that led to the stampede and ensure accountability.

Minister Ramanaidu slams Jagan, highlights TDP's welfare and development initiatives

Tirupati: Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu launched a sharp attack on former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy during the 'Suparipalana Tholi Adugu' programme in Tirupati on Friday. He said industrialists were demanding assurance that 'Jagan will not return' before investing in the State, reflecting a deep mistrust in the former CM's governance. Highlighting the current TDP-led alliance's achievements, Ramanaidu said, 'We are delivering both development and welfare. That's why people trust this government.' He announced that over 16,000 teacher posts were being filled in the first year and noted that the revived Rs 5 Anna Canteens were now feeding 2.5 lakh people daily. Praising Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu as a leader 'who changes destinies,' he contrasted him with Jagan, whom he accused of ruling with cruelty. 'A true leader should protect, not destroy like Jagan,' he said. The Minister further ridiculed Jagan's statements, saying, 'Whether it is heads or mangoes, he talks of crushing them all.' Referring to YSRCP leader Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy's threats, Ramanaidu alleged that YSRCP wants to return to power only to harass the public and settle personal scores. On development, he said that all major irrigation projects in Rayalaseema were associated with NTR and Chandrababu. Water will be brought to Adavipalli Reservoir via Handri-Neeva, and Neva branch canals will fill Kalyani Dam to supply drinking water to Tirupati. Additionally, 4 tmcft of water from Kandaleru will be diverted to Mallemadugu and Balaji Reservoirs. He also accused Jagan of turning prohibition into profit, recalling the Jangareddygudem tragedy where 27 died from spurious liquor. 'We don't believe in vendetta. But those who break the law will face strict action,' he concluded. TDP leaders M Sugunamma, G Narasimha Yadav, RC Munikrishna, P Sridhar Varma and others were present.
