Gangavaram-NH-16 corridor and Bhogapuram access route proposals will be fast-tracked, says NHAI Chairman
Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat and Gajuwaka MLA Palla Srinivasa Rao met NHAI Chairman Santhosh Kumar Yadav in New Delhi, seeking expedited sanction and implementation of the long-pending Gangavaram Port–NH-16 connectivity road via Tungalam. They said that despite the completion of a comprehensive Detailed Project Report (DPR), the project was shelved by the previous YSRCP government, resulting in crippling port access, worsening urban congestion, and missed economic opportunities for the region. With Gangavaram Port's cargo throughput expected to surge from 2,500 to over 6,000 trucks per day, the current Gajuwaka corridor, which is dotted by dense residential zones, is now functionally obsolete. The proposed alignment, formulated through exhaustive studies, strategically passes through industrial and railway lands, ensuring minimal displacement while offering a dedicated high-capacity logistics artery. In addition to pressing for the port road, the TDP leaders urged the NHAI to extend the existing highway infrastructure with grade-separated flyovers towards Bhogapuram International Airport, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity between Visakhapatnam city, the port, and the upcoming airport. The proposed extension would ease traffic chokepoints and support Visakhapatnam as a multi-modal logistics and aviation hub on India's eastern seaboard. Mr. Sribharat emphasised the urgent need to remove bottlenecks that have held back Visakhapatnam's rise as a modern port city. He said the city's future lies in integrated connectivity, and that the road to Bhogapuram must match the standards of upcoming greenfield airports across India. Mr. Srinivasa Rao echoed this urgency, stating that infrastructure decisions must not be mired in politics or neglect. He said that the TDP was committed to restoring long-delayed projects and pushing for coordination between the State and the Centre. Mr. Santhosh Kumar Yadav acknowledged the delays and assured the delegation that both the Gangavaram–NH-16 corridor and the Bhogapuram access route proposals would be reviewed with priority, with sanctioning and planning to be fast-tracked.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Visakhapatnam has secured the top spot in LinkedIn's inaugural 'Cities on the Rise' report, which identifies India's fastest-growing non-metro cities in terms of professional opportunities. The report, released on Tuesday, highlights the city's emergence as a major hub for industry, employment, and innovation. According to the report, Visakhapatnam's growth is being driven by a strengthening technology ecosystem and the increasing presence of major pharmaceutical and data companies. The Andhra Pradesh government's push for infrastructure development has also played a key role in the city's transformation. Top employers contributing to Visakhapatnam's professional landscape include Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Miracle Software Systems Inc., and Laurus Labs Limited. The city's growing industrial base and talent inflow have made it a preferred destination for professionals seeking opportunities outside metro regions. Welcoming the recognition, Visakhapatnam MP Mathukumilli Sribharat said the ranking reflects the combined efforts of the government, industries, and the local workforce. Vijayawada ranks third in 'Cities on the Rise' report 'This is a proud moment for every resident of Visakhapatnam. The ranking is a recognition of the steps being taken to promote job creation, innovation, and sustainable urban development in the city. With continuous investment in infrastructure and digital growth, Visakhapatnam is on the path to becoming one of India's most liveable and future-ready cities,' he said. The report also features Vijayawada at number three, noting its shift from a cultural and pilgrimage centre to a growing IT and business destination. Leading employers in Vijayawada include HCL Tech, Tata Consultancy Services, and Infosys. Commenting on the overall performance of Andhra Pradesh in the report, Sribharat said, 'The rise of both Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada shows the state's growing role in the national economy. As sectors like IT, pharmaceuticals, logistics, and green industries expand, Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a model for balanced and inclusive urban development.' The 'Cities on the Rise' report is based on hiring patterns, talent migration, and job market trends across India's Tier-2 cities.

SCoR Mazdoor Union seeks swift action on operationalisation of railway zone
A delegation from the South Coast Railway Mazdoor Union, led by DRUCC Member Chalasani Gandhi and General Secretary Ch. Sankara Rao, met Visakhapatnam MP M. Sribharat and submitted a memorandum urging swift action on the long-pending operationalisation of the South Coast Railway (SCoR) Zone. The union noted that although the SCoR was sanctioned in 2019 under the A.P. Reorganisation Act, a formal Gazette Notification is still awaited, delaying the full-fledged functioning of the zone headquartered in Visakhapatnam. Despite the Cabinet's approval in February 2019 and submission of the Detailed Project Report (DPR) by August that year, no significant progress has followed. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the zonal headquarters on January 8, 2025. While a General Manager was appointed on June 5, 2025, the post remains ineffective due to the absence of administrative powers, as the Gazette Notification is still pending. The constituent divisions — Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur, and Waltair (to be bifurcated into Rayagada and Visakhapatnam) — continue under their previous zones. The union pointed out that other zones like ECoR, NCR, SECR, and SWR began operations soon after their formation via Gazette Notifications, even without permanent infrastructure. The leaders urged Mr. Sribharat to press the Prime Minister, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and other top officials to ensure the Gazette Notification is issued by August 15, 2025. Mr. Sribharat assured them that he would take up the issue with the concerned ministries in Delhi.
