Selangor govt will not compromise on 3R issues
Selangor Rural Development, Unity and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rizam Ismail said issues involving racial and religious sensitivities must be handled firmly and wisely, given the state's role as a key national hub with a multiracial and densely populated society.
'Selangor must surely serve as an example, not only within the country but also to the world. Despite our ethnic diversity, we have managed to build a nation founded on strong unity.
'That is why we constantly work with the Ministry of National Unity through various awareness and unity programmes,' he said when officiating the closing ceremony of the Santuni MADANI and Misi Jelajah Peduli Ummah: Sejahtera Insan Al-Falah programmes at the As-Syukriah Mosque, Parit 8 Gambut, Sungai Panjang, here today.
He said this in response to a news report yesterday, which cited data from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) stating that 40,515 pieces of potentially fake news content had been identified and reported by platform providers from 2023 until May this year.
Of the total number, 11,819 were related to 3R content, of which 7,571 had been deleted.
Rizam said one of the initiatives being actively implemented was strengthening the role of the Rukun Tetangga Areas, particularly in rural areas, to foster patriotism and racial unity.
Meanwhile, he said no official complaints concerning 3R issues had been received so far, except for minor community-related matters that could be resolved locally.
Earlier, Rizam said the programme organised by the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Department (JAWI), in collaboration with the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisation (MAPIM), was seen as effective in bridging the gap between the people and government agencies, particularly in delivering services directly to the target group.
He said the programme, which began yesterday (June 21), featured a range of beneficial activities tailored to different age groups, including health screenings, dakwah sessions, sports, e-sports competitions and exhibitions by government agencies.
Meanwhile, JAWI director Hanifuddin Roslan, who was present at the programme, said the department had presented cash contributions of RM220 each to 253 asnaf (eligible tithe recipients) identified through the Selangor Zakat Board.
In addition, he said the Zakat Collection Centre (PPZ) of the Federal Territories Islamic Religious Council (MAIWP) had presented mock cheques amounting to RM10,000 to the As-Syukriah Mosque, RM5,000 to five suraus under its supervision, and RM5,000 to the Desa Permai Parit 8 Quran and Fardhu Ain Integration Class.
Hanifuddin said the programme was also JAWI's second corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative held this year outside its administrative area, with more locations to be included in the future.

No 3R offences reported at opposition rally, says home minister
KULIM: The Home Ministry has yet to receive any reports of 3R (religion, race, and royalty) violations, or under any other laws, following the peaceful assembly organised by the opposition in the capital yesterday. Its minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said the rally proceeded smoothly and was well managed by police. It's a testament to the Madani government's commitment to upholding the freedom of assembly, he added. "As of this morning, I have not received any feedback from police regarding any reports or complaints about breaches of existing laws, including 3R-related issues. "But clearly, this is the clearest proof—a shining example—that the Madani government is truly upholding the freedom of assembly as guaranteed by the Constitution. "The police, in turn, maintained order with full responsibility and professionalism," he told reporters after the People's Volunteer Corps Department (Rela) anniversary celebration at Dataran Kulim in Kedah today. Saifuddin also criticised the organisers for failing to clearly remind participants not to bring underage children to the rally, as this is prohibited under the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012. "This Act outlines three main responsibilities. The police act as facilitators, organisers must not provoke issues related to race, religion, or the monarchy, and participants are not allowed to carry dangerous weapons or bring underage children. "Yesterday, some participants were unaware or not informed. The organisers merely called on people to gather in large numbers without saying that bringing children was prohibited. That is a legal offence," he said. Commenting further, Saifuddin challenged the opposition to not just stage weekly rallies but instead present better policies to rival those implemented by the government. He said that when it comes to the cost of living, the Madani government had already introduced clear measures, including increasing cash aid and lowering fuel prices by six sen and it is now time for the opposition to present their alternatives. "If you disagree with the government's policies, present your own welfare policies. If you think six sen is insufficient, state how much you would reduce it by, what mechanism you would use. Let the people compare. "We present policies and programmes, while they respond with insults and emotional politics. This deprives the people of a fair chance to assess. We reject this kind of dirty politics," he said. He said the upcoming 13th Malaysia Plan debate in Parliament next week would be the best platform for the opposition to demonstrate their ability as an alternative bloc. "The people want to see ideas and policy offerings, not just street shouting. The opportunity is wide open. Present your policies in Parliament and let the people judge," he said.

Home Ministry awaits report on officers in flying passport bribery case
KULIM: The Home Ministry is still awaiting a complete report on the investigation into enforcement officers suspected of aiding a 'flying passport' syndicate at Malaysia's border checkpoints. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail stated that the ministry will receive the report from Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain. I believe we have placed the right person in the right position,' Saifuddin told reporters after officiating the 53rd anniversary celebration of the People's Volunteer Corps (RELA) at Dataran Kulim. Meanwhile, Saifuddin urged RELA members to acquire new skills and improve training to broaden their functions. He highlighted the need for RELA to expand beyond traditional roles like traffic control and disaster response. 'This shift aims to elevate RELA's role to include responsibilities in sensitive areas such as border control. Of course, RELA will not act alone.
