Metro 9, from Dahisar to Mira Rd, set for trial runs
Metro Line 9
-- the elevated stretch between Dahisar East and Kashigaon in Mira-Bhayandar -- are set to commence as the corridor has been energised for traction power.
The trial runs mark a major milestone in the development of the 11.4-km line, an extension of the operational Metro Line 7.
Thus, Line 9 is the Metro that connects Mumbai with Mira-Bhayandar.Once fully functional, the corridor is expected to alleviate vehicular congestion on Western Express Highway (WEH) and reduce overcrowding on Western Railway's suburban trains, particularly for daily commuters from the fast-growing Mira-Bhayander belt."We are one step closer to operationalising a critical link in Mumbai's expanding Metro network," said a senior official from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (
MMRDA
).Metro Line 9 is a crucial north-western suburban corridor that links Dahisar (East) to Mira Bhayander, passing through densely populated nodes like Kashigaon and Mira Road.
Once operational, it will serve as a feeder corridor to Line 7, which is already in service between Dahisar East and Gundavali (Andheri East). It will also offer seamless connectivity to commuters heading towards the domestic airport via the upcoming Line 7A and further onwards to South Mumbai via Line 3A.Additionally, the upcoming interchanges at Dahisar East (with Line 7) and at Gundavali (with Line 1 and Line 2A) will create a networked transport experience, reducing reliance on road-based transport and offering faster commute choices.According to MMRDA, the line shall reduce current travel times by 50-75% depending on road conditions.Urban transport experts believe the commissioning of Line 9 will decongest major arterial roads such as WEH and reduce the load on local trains, particularly during peak hours.
"The daily struggle for space in Virar-bound locals could ease marginally once commuters from Mira-Bhayandar have a reliable Metro option," said a senior planner from MMRDA. Commercial operations are likely to begin before the end of the year after obtaining clearances from the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS).

Uber introduces new features aimed at improving affordability and access for Indian commuters
Uber has announced a suite of new features intended to enhance the daily commuting experience for its users in India. With offerings such as Price Lock, Wait & Save, Metro ticketing integration, and Airport Priority Access, the company is addressing a broad spectrum of rider needs—from affordability and accessibility to convenience and comfort. India remains a key market for Uber, with more than 1.4 million drivers across 125 cities. The newly launched features are the result of direct rider feedback, reflecting demand for greater control, flexibility, and value in everyday travel. The Price Lock feature, scheduled for release in December 2025, will allow users to lock in fixed fares for commonly travelled routes by paying a small upfront fee. This aims to protect riders from fare surges during peak hours or congested periods. Wait & Save, currently piloting in over 10 cities, offers reduced fares to passengers willing to wait longer for a ride. In contrast, the Go Priority option caters to those preferring faster pickups at a premium. Both options aim to give riders more control over their journey priorities. Another significant development is the integration of metro ticketing through ONDC. This service is already live in Delhi and will soon be rolled out in Chennai and Mumbai. It enables users to plan multimodal travel seamlessly within the Uber app. Also introduced is Simple Mode, designed for senior citizens with a simplified interface, and Airport Priority Access, which offers reserved ride lanes at terminals for quicker departures. Prabhjeet Singh, President, Uber India & South Asia, said, 'These features are designed to serve a wide range of needs, from daily savers to those seeking comfort. We're raising the bar on everyday mobility.'

Two more trains on anvil on Mumbai Metro's lines 2A and 7 as ridership reaches 3 lakh daily
As the daily ridership for Metro Lines 2A (D N Nagar to Dahisar East) and 7 (Andheri East to Dahisar East) has surpassed the three-lakh mark, the Maha Mumbai Metro Operation Corporation Limited (MMMOCL) is planning to add two more trains to manage the increasing number of passengers. On Thursday, MMMOCL ran trial trips with two additional trains on the corridors during peak hours to judge their operational viability. Sources said that, depending on the outcome of the trial run, a decision will be made to incorporate these trains into regular operations. On July 8, a record 3.01 lakh commuters travelled through these two metro lines, the highest ever single-day ridership. Officials mentioned that the number of passengers is increasing gradually, particularly during rush office hours, resulting in platform and train congestion. Currently, 284 daily trips are run on Metro Line 2A and Line 7 together. In response to growing demand for passengers, there is a call to cut down on headway between two trains and add more trips. To respond to this, the transport authority piloted running two more trains on Thursday, aside from the standard schedule. It was stated by officials that the success or failure of the test run would determine if the services can be run regularly. With the additional services put in place, the number of operating trains on the two corridors will be 30. The growing ridership has prompted transport planners to look at ways to optimise capacity and improve frequency on both corridors. MMMOCL will make a decision in the next few days about routine deployment of the two new trains after reviewing performance figures on the trial run.
