Aaron Sorkin to write and direct ‘The Social Network Part II' at Sony

Express Tribune25-06-2025
Sony Pictures is officially developing The Social Network Part II, with Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin set to write and direct the follow-up to his 2010 hit.
While not a direct sequel, the new film will explore the next chapter of Facebook's evolution, inspired by the Wall Street Journal's 2021 investigative series The Facebook Files.
The original Social Network, directed by David Fincher, chronicled the creation of Facebook and earned $226 million globally along with eight Oscar nominations. Sorkin won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay. This time, he will also helm the project, following his recent directing credits on Molly's Game, The Trial of the Chicago 7, and Being the Ricardos.
Produced by Todd Black, Peter Rice, Stuart Besser, and Sorkin himself, the film will tackle themes such as Facebook's influence on youth, international politics, misinformation, and the 2020 U.S. election. Though inspired partly by the aftermath of the January 6 Capitol riot, sources clarify this is not a 'January 6 movie.'
Casting has yet to begin, but industry insiders anticipate high demand for roles, given the original film's star-making impact on actors like Jesse Eisenberg and Andrew Garfield. It remains unclear whether Eisenberg will reprise his role as Mark Zuckerberg.
With development deals secured, Sorkin will now focus on assembling the cast. A production timeline has not been announced.
Sorkin is represented by WME.

It has been announced that Timothée Chalamet will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2026, joining the Class of 2026 that includes Emily Blunt, Demi Moore, Rachel McAdams, and Rami Malek. At 29, Chalamet will be one of the youngest recipients. Chalamet, who was born in New York City, began acting as a teenager and gained widespread recognition with his Oscar-nominated role in Call Me by Your Name in 2017. He has since starred in Lady Bird, Beautiful Boy, Little Women, and Denis Villeneuve's Dune series, and recently portrayed Bob Dylan in the 2025 biopic A Complete Unknown, earning his second Academy Award nomination. The announcement, made on July 2, 2025, sparked a variety of reactions on social media. Some fans expressed excitement, calling Chalamet 'the main movie star of this generation' and praising his filmography, including his work in the Dune franchise. Others questioned the timing of the honour, suggesting that it may be too early in his career for such recognition. Comments on social media included suggestions that Kylie Jenner, Chalamet's partner, may have had a role in securing the star, while others referenced Kris Jenner's influence with humour. Some users also highlighted that many established figures have yet to receive a star, questioning the selection process. Despite the discussions surrounding the announcement, Chalamet's selection adds to the list of recipients for the upcoming Hollywood Walk of Fame class and follows a series of roles he has taken across different films in recent years.
