UP Sawan Mela scare: Biker crashes mid-stunt in ‘Maut ka Kuan', riderless bike keeps circling arena

LUCKNOW: A stunt at the Sawan fair in Maharajganj's Panchmukhi Shiva Temple on Monday evening caused panic after a performer fell off his motorcycle while riding inside the 'Well of Death' (Maut Ka Kuan). Surprisingly, the motorcycle continued circling the cylindrical structure on its own for nearly an hour after the fall. The incident took place in the Thuthibari Kotwali police station area during the ongoing Sawan festivities at the iconic Panchmukhi Shiva Temple in Itahia. A video of the shocking moment has gone viral, showing the riderless motorcycle speeding along the well's vertical walls as stunned onlookers watched in disbelief. The footage also shows two cars and several individuals inside the structure at the time. Local authorities responded swiftly. Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Nand Prakash Maurya stated that while the fair organisers had permission for swing rides at the temple fair, the 'Well of Death' was set up without authorisation. 'The stunt arena was set up arbitrarily by the ride operator without specific permission. On Monday, a youth performing inside the well fell and sustained injuries during the stunt. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Installing Solar Panels in Bangladesh Might Be Cheaper Then You Think Solar Panels | Search Ads Get Info Undo Following the incident, the 'Well of Death' has been shut down, and the remaining amusement rides have been directed to strictly follow safety protocols,' Maurya said. The 'Maut Ka Kuan', or 'Well of Death', is a popular attraction at fairs where riders perform gravity-defying stunts by driving motorcycles or cars along the vertical walls of a cylindrical arena using centrifugal force. Though thrilling, such acts are extremely dangerous and require stringent safety measures which appeared to be lacking in this case. No serious injuries to spectators were reported, but the incident has raised serious concerns about safety enforcement at rural fairs. An inquiry into violations of safety norms is underway.
