Punjab tags record Rs1240bn for ADP
LAHORE: The Punjab government has unveiled a record allocation of Rs. 1,240 billion for the Annual Development Program (ADP) for fiscal year 2025-26, reflecting a significant 47.3% increase from the Rs. 842 billion allocated in the previous year.
According to the budget documents released on Monday, this marks the largest ADP in Punjab's history and underscores the government's focus on sustainable, inclusive, and forward-looking development. With a population of over 127.7 million, Punjab continues to drive Pakistan's economy, contributing more than 55% to the national GDP, nearly 60% of total exports, and about 68% of agricultural output. Amid growing urbanisation and rising pressure on infrastructure, energy, and environmental resources, the government has positioned this ADP as a strategic response to evolving challenges.
Aligned with URAAN Pakistan, the 13th National Development Plan, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030, the development program aims to promote equity, innovation, and climate resilience, particularly benefiting underserved regions like South Punjab.
The ADP 2025-26 focuses on major public investments across key sectors. The education sector has been allocated Rs. 148 billion, up from Rs. 82 billion last year, while healthcare will receive Rs. 182 billion, compared to Rs. 165 billion previously. Agriculture has been earmarked Rs. 80 billion, with Rs. 145 billion set aside for urban development and Rs. 120 billion for roads.
The transport sector will get Rs. 85 billion, local government and community development Rs. 142 billion, and irrigation Rs. 38 billion. Additionally, Rs. 38 billion has been allocated for planning and development, Rs. 15 billion for environment and climate change, Rs. 25 billion for forestry, wildlife and fisheries, and Rs. 28 billion for tourism and archaeology.
Industries, commerce and investment, and skill development and entrepreneurship will each receive Rs. 12 billion, while Rs. 6 billion has been allocated for water supply and sanitation.

Punjab PA Speaker distributes cheques among sanitation workers
LAHORE: Punjab Assembly Speaker, Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan distributed award cheques among hardworking sanitation workers in Kasur under the 'Suthra Punjab Programme' initiated by the Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, in recognition of their excellent cleanliness arrangements during Eid-ul-Azha. Mega corruption scandal: NAB Lahore recovers Rs2bn
LAHORE: Under the supervision of Director General (DG) NAB Lahore, Ghulam Safdar Shah, the NAB Lahore investigation team has successfully concluded a major recovery of Rs 2 billion in ongoing probe pertaining to a mega corruption scandal involving officers and officials of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Sheikhupura. The DG NAB Lahore formally handed over first installment of the recovered amount to Additional Secretary Finance, Punjab Khalid Mehmood in NAB office, Lahore. According to the details, NAB Lahore launched Inquiry proceedings in September 2024 pertaining to the issuance of bogus cheques worth Rs 5 billion (approx.) by the Officers and staff of the Public Health Engineering and District Accounts Office, Sheikhupura. During the inquiry proceedings, some of the accused persons confessed to their crimes and filed Plea Bargain (PB) requests of Rs2 billion, which were duly approved by the Accountability Court, Lahore. Following court approval, the Bureau succeeded to ensure recovery within a remarkably short period and the initial tranche of the recovered amount has been submitted into the national treasury. On the occasion, DG NAB Lahore commended the exceptional performance of the investigation team, noting that the recovery of looted public funds in such a short time reflects team's commitment and competence. He further stated that investigations are actively underway against other accused persons involved in alleged embezzlement of public funds. Highlighting Chairman NAB's vision, DG Ghulam Safdar Shah emphasized that providing immediate relief to common citizens is NAB's top priority, however, all possible measures are being taken towards this end. He added that in order to recover and distribute the looted amounts to the rightful victims, the process of auctioning-off seized properties of the accused persons has been initiated. In this regard, a public auction of valuable confiscated properties was held at Deputy Commissioner Office, Lahore. KPC holds workshop on trading markets
KARACHI: A one-day workshop titled 'Understanding the World's Largest Trading Market: A Guide for Journalists' was organised under the Skills Development Committee of the Karachi Press Club, aimed at to educate journalists about forex, cryptocurrency, and global financial trends. The keynote speaker was economic analyst and financial trading expert Talha Bin Javed, who provided detailed insights into the structure of global financial markets, the impact of news on currency valuations, and the practical use of trading platforms. Talha Bin Javed emphasized that journalists should not limit themselves to merely reporting news but should also acquire financial knowledge to provide the public with better information and explore new income streams for themselves. He dismissed the notion that stock or forex trading is merely gambling, stressing that with education and research, one can safely enter this field. He said that there are limited and reliable platforms for the forex trading, of which people generally not investing. The government can earn more foreign exchange by regulating the forex and cryptocurrency, he added. He appreciated the government's efforts for announcement of cryptocurrency council to regulate the digital currency trading in the country. This move will bring foreign exchange in the country, he hoped. During the workshop, journalists were informed about how major global or local news directly influences market trends and why the media must exercise responsibility when reporting on such matters. At the conclusion of the workshop, Karachi Press Club Secretary Sohail Afzal Khan and Secretary Skill Development Committee Manzar Turk presented Ajrak and a commemorative shield to Talha Bin Javed, while certificates were distributed among the participants.
