Health minister inaugurates projects worth Rs 11.6 crore in Dharmapuri district

DHARMAPURI: Health and Family Welfare Minister Ma Subramanian inaugurated new projects worth Rs 12.63 crore across the district, and also participated in the 12th convocation at the Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital (DMCH), along with Agriculture Minister MRK Panneerselvam, where 88 students had graduated.
Speaking at the meeting, Subramanian said, "Since the DMK government came to power, Chief Minister MK Stalin has taken steps to improve the infrastructure of all hospitals across the state. As testament to this, in Dharmapuri, we inaugurated 11 projects, including a new MRI unit in DMCH. A pay ward with 50 beds has also been introduced. We have also constructed a special observation ward for postnatal mothers and children, and other projects worth Rs 12.63 crores. Moreover, since Stalin took charge, 11 government medical college hospitals have seen infrastructure upgrades worth Rs 4,722.51 crore."

Jaipur: Integrated Child Development Services department is planning to start distribution of Nutri Kits to pregnant women at Anganwadi centres by next month. Officials said that items included in kit are prepared and procurement process is underway. The Nutri Kit will include one kilogram of desi ghee, 500 grams each of dates, jaggery, roasted chickpeas, roasted peanuts, and 100 grams of fox nuts or any other dry fruit. Vasudev Malawat, Director ICDS said "Items provided in Nutri Kits were suggested by nutrition experts by verifying exact measurements and quality assurances before the kit is prepared for distribution. Target for distribution is set for next month." This kit will be given to a woman twice during her pregnancy. Around 2.35 lakh women will benefit from this scheme at a cost around Rs 25 crore. TNN

Punjab launches 'Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana' for free treatment up to 10 lakh annually

Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], July 8 (ANI): The Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab government on Tuesday launched the 'Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana', a major healthcare initiative that promised free and cashless medical treatment up to Rs 10 lakh per year for every eligible resident of the state. The scheme was formally launched by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal at a public event in Chandigarh. Addressing the gathering, CM Mann said, 'Today I launched the 'Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana' with National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal ji in Chandigarh. Under this scheme, people will get free and best treatment up to Rs 10 lakh every year.' The scheme aimed to benefit around 3 crore people across Punjab, covering permanent residents, including government employees and pensioners. According to the government, MMSY health cards would be issued to all eligible citizens, and treatment would be available free of cost in both government and private hospitals empanelled under the scheme. CM Mann further added, ''Mukhyamantri Sehat Yojana' will cover around 3 crore population of Punjab. MMSY health cards will be issued to permanent residents of the state including government employees and pensioners. Free and cashless treatment will be provided in all government and private hospitals through this card.' Furthermore, highlighting the government's commitment to public welfare, Mann stated, 'It is our responsibility to provide the best facilities in the field of health to Punjab, which we are fulfilling with full dedication and commitment.' Earlier, Mann, along with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, announced the launch of the 'Fast Track Punjab Portal'. The portal aims to simplify the process of starting new businesses, setting up projects, and expanding industries in the state. He stressed the need for a business-friendly environment in which industrialists can focus 90 per cent of their time on business growth rather than running around government offices. (ANI)

MNNIT, KGMU develop device to reduce repetitive X-rays after bone fracture

Prayagraj: Experts from Motilal Nehru National Institute of Technology (MNNIT), Prayagraj, and King George Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, have jointly developed a device that will reduce the number of repetitive X-rays doctors take to check the recovery of broken bones after applying a plaster or fixator. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This fibre optics-based sensing device provides information regarding changes in the pattern of the optical spectrum generated by the device, revealing detailed information about the strength of the bone's recovery. Another advantage of this sensor-based device is that it will save patients from the adverse effects of radiation, as doctors will not need to take repetitive X-rays to evaluate the recovery progress of the broken bone. The device is the result of efforts of assistant professor at the department of applied mechanics of MNNIT, Abhishek Kumar Tiwari, along with Prof Yogendra Kumar of the electronics and communication (ECE) branch, Dr Ravindra Mohan of KGMU's bone surgery department, and researchers Rishabh Singh and Archana. Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF) gave a grant of Rs 49 lakh in 2023, following which the device was developed by these experts. "This device is based on optical sensing, which works with the help of sensors and computational models. After the doctor applies the plaster or fixator, the sensor-based device is installed on the outer part of the body (say fixator), which collects information related to the vibration and strength of the bone. When the patient exerts pressure, the sensors study the changes in the optical spectrum, based on which the doctor can easily determine how much the bone has recovered," said Tiwari.
