NFL personnel evaluator: Have to account for New York Giants' Brian Burns on every snap
The former first-round pick, who was acquired by the Giants last offseason, recorded 8.5 sacks, 17 tackles for loss, and 61 total pressures, per Pro Football Focus. It was a solid overall first impression for Giants fans.
With that said, Burns was left off the annual positional rankings from ESPN. Instead, he was placed in the "Honorable Mention" category.
Though he ultimately failed to make the list, one NFL executive sang the praises of the 27-year-old.
"He's still got premier ability, someone you have to account for on every snap. If this was a skill-set conversation only, he'd be top five. He's got everything you want from that standpoint. But he just hasn't had the consistent production," said one NFL personnel evaluator via ESPN.
The Giants will be leaning heavily on the star pass-rusher to produce in 2025, especially after they signed him to a $141 million deal last offseason.
With Burns set to reprise his role as the leader of the pass rush, the Giants are also hoping the return of Dexter Lawrence and Kayvon Thibodeaux, along with the arrival of Abdul Carter, will give them a feared pass rush.
Though he hasn't provided elite production, Burns has the skill set to explode in any given season. With more help along the defensive line, it wouldn't be a surprise if he turned in a career season in 2025.

Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Cam Ward was one of several high-profile rookies who were recently on the receiving end of a gift from Fanatics via NFL legends, coupled with an emotional and heartfelt message to each player. Future Hall of Famer Tom Brady personally greeted Ward into the league by telling him, 'You're going to grow in ways you couldn't even imagine, and I'm going to be watching, and I'm going to be pulling for you.' The message from Brady hit home, with Ward responding, 'That's crazy, for the greatest player of all time to send me a video like that.' As the video closed, Ward ended with a message that all Titans fans hope becomes reality by saying, 'I'm ready for the challenge.' Micah Parsons listed as starter on Cowboys' first unofficial depth chart despite trade request, lagging contract negotiations
The Dallas Cowboys have released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2025 season, and defensive end Micah Parsons is listed as a starter despite his trade request and lagging contract negotiations. Parsons has yet to fully participate in a training camp practice in the two weeks since the team reported to Oxnard, California. He released a lengthy statement on social media this past Friday, requesting a trade from the Cowboys, who drafted him No. 12 overall in the 2021 draft. That said, Parsons continued to show up at Cowboys practice Saturday and Monday — the team was off on Sunday — notably wearing his No. 11 jersey Monday while watching his teammates and conversing with defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus as well as vice president of player personnel Will McClay. While Parsons wrote, "I no longer want to be here," in a trade-request statement he captioned, "Thank you Dallas," on X, the Cowboys aren't looking to trade their premier edge rusher. First-year head coach Brian Schottenheimer is planning to have the four-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro available for Dallas' Sept. 4 opener at the Philadelphia Eagles. 'We're still planning on moving Micah around and putting him in all the spots that we see him and using our fronts the way we want to see it,' Schottenheimer said. 'We go about our business every day. We live in the moment. We focus in the moment. And again, like I said, I talked to you guys the other day, not going to get a lot into it. 'But I expect Micah to be here.' Parsons is in the fifth-year option of his rookie deal with the Cowboys. He won NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2021, the first of his four seasons with 12-plus sacks since entering the league. The Penn State product has piled up 52.5 sacks, 256 total tackles, 112 quarterback hits and nine forced fumbles in 63 regular-season games.

Former NFL Player LeShon Johnson Convicted for Running Dog Fighting Ring, Ordered to Return 190 'Pit Bull-Type' Dogs
The Oklahoma native previously pleaded guilty to state animal fighting charges in 2004NEED TO KNOW LeShon Johnson has been convicted of six felonies related to operating a large-scale dog-fighting ring in Oklahoma The former NFL running back surrendered 190 "pit bull-type" dogs Johnson was a Heisman Trophy candidate in 1993Former NFL pro running back LeShon Johnson has been convicted on charges related to operating a large-scale dog fighting and trafficking venture in Oklahoma. Johnson, 54, faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison for violating the federal Animal Welfare Act's prohibitions against possessing, selling, transporting and delivering animals to be used in fighting ventures, according to a Department of Justice press release on Monday, Aug. 4. Johnson, a 1993 Heisman Trophy contender, also faces a fine of up to $250,000 on each of the six felony counts. Following the verdict, the Haskell, Okla. native surrendered to the government 190 'pit bull-type' dogs seized in the case. According to the release, 'the government is pursuing forfeiture of these dogs.' Johnson was charged with the felonies in March, in what the DOJ said at the time was the largest number of dogs ever seized from a single person in a federal dog fighting case. Federal authorities alleged Johnson ran the dog-fighting ring under the name 'Mal Kant Kennels' in Haskell and in Broken Arrow, Okla. 'Johnson selectively bred 'champion' and 'grand champion' fighting dogs — dogs that have respectively won three or five fights — to produce offspring with fighting traits and abilities desired by him and others for use in dog fights,' the DOJ said in a news release at the time. 'Johnson marketed and sold stud rights and offspring from winning fighting dogs to other dog fighters looking to incorporate the Mal Kant Kennels 'bloodline' into their own dog fighting operations.' Johnson previously pleaded guilty to state animal fighting charges in 2004 after he was arrested for running Krazyside Kennels, which doubled as a dog-fighting ring. The former Northern Illinois University athlete played in the NFL for six seasons for the Green Bay Packers and Arizona Cardinals. In 1999, he was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma before he returned to the league with the New York Giants. Read the original article on People
