Bhubaneswar: Around 120 flyers had to disembark from an IndiGo Bhubaneswar-Kolkata flight after it suffered a bird hit while taxiing for takeoff on the runway at Biju Patnaik International Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
The airlines sent the passengers in another aircraft three hours later.
Confirming the bird-hit, Prasanna Pradhan, director of BPIA, said, "There was a report of bird-hit by pilot of an IndiGo Bhubaneswar-Kolkata flight. Further investigation into the incident is on."
Sources said the aircraft, an Airbus A320, suffered bird-hit on the engine side. Though there was no visible damage, the aircraft was sent to the bay for further inspection as a precaution, they said.
The flight 6E6101 was scheduled to take off from Bhubaneswar around 4.20 pm. Its passengers boarded another aircraft around 8 pm. The re-arranged IndiGo aircraft landed in Kolkata with all the passengers.TNN

An air hostess can be seen folding her hands to request a passenger to take his seat as he protests the delay. She said: 'All the tests on the aircraft have been completed.' Accoording to media reports, flight passengers expressed frustration at the lack of transparency and communication from the airline during their ordeal. After thetechnical testing was completed, the flight carrying 176 passengers took off from Mumbai. The Mumbai-Varanasi flight, 6E 5028, took off at 9.53 PM, after over two hours of its scheduled departure at 7:30 PM, according to plane tracker flightradar24. IndiGo has not yet issued an official statement on the issue. An email sent by to IndiGo remain unanswered at the time of publishing this story. The incident has once again raised questions about communication protocols during the flight delays and the technical issues emerging during the flight. Recently, IndiGo's Ahmedabad-Diu flight carrying around 50 passengers and crew members had aborted take-off due to technical snag. As per the schedule, the flight was supposed to depart around 11.15 AM on Wednesday from the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. The aircraft was in the take-off roll phase when the pilot decided to stop it on the runway. "A technical snag indication was noticed just before the take-off on IndiGo flight 6E7966 operating from Ahmedabad to Diu on July 23," IndiGo had said in a statement. On July 21, an IndiGo flight from Goa with 140 passengers on board made an emergency landing at the Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport in Madhya Pradesh's Indore due to a landing gear issue.

At one point, the airhostess says that filming inside the aircraft was not allowed. However, the passengers retort saying that recording the video was important, and citing safety concerns in the aircraft. The flight, carrying 176 passengers, was facing technical snag. 1 2 Bhubaneswar: After authorities of Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) sent consecutive letters flagging concerns about various obstructions along the approach path of flights and urged their removal, the transport department has taken the issue up with the civic body. "As per the requirement of the ministry of civil aviation, it is necessary to remove or trim trees, street lights, poles, and buildings on the approach path of runway 14 and 32 at BPIA for the safe operation of flights, as per height restrictions under the safeguarding of Airport Operations Rules, 2015," read the transport department's letter to the BMC commissioner on July 21. A copy of the letter was also marked to BPIA. The letter also mentioned a joint inspection conducted by BMC and others to identify obstructions and take steps to remove them. The letter mentioned the decision to reduce the height of a high-mast light as a result of the joint inspection. On July 7, BPIA wrote to the civic body flagging concerns about the high-mast light in Jagamara area. " The light pole is 12m high, equivalent to a four-storey building. BPIA has requested a reduction in its height by 5m. After the Ahmedabad air crash, BPIA has been addressing the obstruction issue to ensure the safety of aircraft. BMC additional commissioner Suvendu Sahu said the area where the trees are located belongs to the general administration (GA) department. "We have fixed a meeting with GA officials to decide on the removal of obstructions. Regarding the street light, we will take it up with the electrical wing," said Sahu.
