Discussed grave challenges posed by cross-border terrorism to India with Danish leaders, says Gulam Ali Khatana
Khatana, spokesperson of the BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit, is a part of the delegation led by BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad. The leaders have conveyed India's stand in France, and Italy is currently in Denmark to present India's unwavering position against terrorism and its perpetrators.
"Honoured to be part of the All Party Delegation of MPs, led by Ravi Shankar Prasad, during our official visit to Denmark. We met Lars-Christian Brask, Deputy Speaker of the Danish Parliament, and briefed him on the heinous Pahalgam Terrorist Attack and India's firm response through Operation Sindoor. India's resolute stance against terrorism and the urgent need for a unified global fight to combat terror was strongly emphasised," Khatana posted on X on Saturday.
The delegation also met a group of former officials, Ministers, Members of Parliament, and diplomat who carry an influential voice in Denmark and abroad.
"We held insightful discussions with select former Members of Parliament, former Ministers, and a former diplomat, focusing on the grave challenges posed by cross-border terrorism to India, India's decisive response through Operation Sindoor, and broader global issues threatening peace and security," Khatana said in another post.
The nine-member delegation includes a diverse political representation: Ravi Shankar Prasad (BJP), Daggubati Purandeswari (BJP), Priyanka Chaturvedi (Shiv Sena-UBT), Ghulam Ali Khatana (BJP), Amar Singh (Congress), Samik Bhattacharya (BJP), M. Thambidurai (AIADMK), former Union Minister M.J. Akbar and former Ambassador Pankaj Saran.
"India's strong condemnation of the terror attack in Pahalgam and resolute action taken in the form of Operation Sindoor formed the focus of briefings given by the Indian delegation to the Danish side. It clarified that India's warranted response through 'Operation Sindoor' was diplomatically measured and commensurate," read a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Copenhagen.
"The delegation emphasised India's zero-tolerance towards terrorism and stance that any act of violence would be responded to befittingly. India's appreciation of Denmark's public stance condemning the Pahalgam terrorist attack and the expression of solidarity with India was conveyed to the Danish side during the meetings," the statement added.
Furthermore, the delegation also met the local Indian diaspora in an interactive setting, emphasising Operation Sindoor's success and India's resolve to stand firm in our collective fight against terrorism.
The delegates are a part of India's global diplomatic outreach campaign to highlight the significance of Operation Sindoor and India's continued fight against Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism.

With the crucial Assembly elections in West Bengal less than a year away, the BJP is all set to appoint a new state president as it gets going on setting its house in order. Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, the only leader to have filed the nomination on Wednesday, is all set to take over the reins of the party from Union Minister and incumbent Sukanta Majumdar. Sources in the BJP, which is in the process of appointing new state presidents across the country, said Bhattacharya's main challenge will be to put an end to factionalism in the state unit before the elections. The central leadership believes the MP will be an acceptable option to the different factions in the state unit. 'The party always prefers grassroots leaders and Bhattacharya is the perfect choice, especially ahead of the Assembly polls. All district-level leaders have known him for years and find it easy to communicate with him,' a senior leader said. The leader went on to add that Bhattacharya's nature of not revolting against the state and central leadership, good relations with all factions of the party, and proximity to RSS leaders tipped the scales in his favour. Bhattacharya, 61, who has over four decades of political experience, started his career in 1971 with the RSS in Howrah and subsequently moved to the BJP. He steadily rose through the ranks and gradually emerged as one of the party's most popular faces in the state in the 1990s because of his strong oratory skills. He served in several positions such as the general secretary of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha's South Howrah mandal and general secretary of Howrah district. He was later elevated to the post of state general secretary of the BJP's youth wing, a post he held for 11 years. Bhattacharya also served as the general secretary of the Bengal BJP for three terms. In 2014, he won the Basirhat Dakshin Assembly bypoll and was a legislator for just over a year. Last year, he was sent to the Upper House. If unsalvageable, PCMC draft DP could be cancelled, Madhuri Misal tells MLCs
1 2 3 Pune: Urban development minister of state Madhuri Misal on Wednesday said state govt could cancel the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)'s draft development plan (DP) if it's deemed beyond rectification. She was responding to concerns raised by MLCs from both the ruling alliance and opposition during the assembly session, who demanded the draft's scrapping. The MLCs criticised the planning committee for incorrectly marking reservations in the draft DP, potentially affecting many residents. BJP's Amit Gorkhe highlighted issues like reservations for public amenities being placed over existing residential buildings, roads being planned through densely populated areas and the draft's failure to consider flood lines and restricted zones. "Over 30,000 people have already filed their objections against the draft DP and many have also organised protests against it. Hence, it must be scrapped," Gorkhe said. BJP MLC Shrikant Bharaitya said CM Devendra Fadnavis had to personally intervene and cancel the reservation for a proposed slaughterhouse near the Alandi temple, which indicated that the entire draft DP was flawed and should be scrapped. Shiv Sena (UBT)'s Sachin Ahir and BJP's Uma Khapre also called on state govt to cancel the draft. Ahir said the scientific methods used in preparing the draft appeared to be faulty, resulting in numerous incorrect reservations. Responding to the concerns raised by the MLCs, Misal clarified that the draft DP was still in the objection and suggestion stage. She said the planning committee would hold hearings before sending it for final approval. She emphasised that both the CM and state govt have the authority to make necessary changes before the draft's final approval. "We will ensure that no injustice is done to any citizen while finalising the draft. If significant errors are found, such as those originating from the initial survey, the CM has the power to cancel the draft," she said. "If we are unable to correct it despite making necessary changes, the draft can be scrapped, just as the PMRDA draft DP was cancelled earlier. It would not be appropriate to cancel it before the hearing process is over," she added. PCMC published the draft in May, allowing citizens to file their objections till July 14.

Maharashtra government withdraws amended bill to hike illegal tree felling fine
Mumbai: State govt on Wednesday withdrew an amendment proposing a 50-time hike in penalty for illegal felling of trees and not recognising the cutting of branches as an offence. Forest minister Ganesh Naik moved the motion to withdraw the bill to amend the Maharashtra Felling of Trees (Regulation) Act of 1964, which proposed to increase the penalty for illegal tree felling from Rs 1,000 to Rs 50,000, in the legislative assembly. In 2024, govt had introduced the amendment bill to impose a hefty fine of Rs 50,000 on any person or party found guilty of felling trees without obtaining prior permission from the authorities concerned. Govt also got powers to forfeit the tools, vehicles, and materials used in felling and removing trees. The law was to extend to the whole of Maharashtra, excluding urban areas. However, environmentalists were sceptical about the enforcement of the rule. "According to the current law, it is not that trees cannot be cut down, only permission has to be taken. So, why is the forest minister asking to withdraw this bill?" asked BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar, who was state forest minister when the amendments were made in 2024. "Global warming is a worldwide phenomenon. Also, there is this kind of competition in every village to cut down trees," he pointed out. Naik replied in the assembly: "In this bill, even cutting branches is like cutting down a tree and attracts if farmers cut down a tree unknowingly, there was a fine of Rs 50,000. This bill is not being withdrawn to benefit someone. Also, there is no doubt about Sudhir Mungantiwar's intentions. But, the amendment bill is being withdrawn temporarily. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Bhaskar Jadhav supported govt's decision to withdraw the amendment, saying there were neither any differentials between urban and rural areas in the bill, nor a separation between trees on private land and on forest land.
