Patriots TE Hunter Henry teases changes in Josh McDaniels' offense

USA Today23-06-2025
New England Patriots tight end Hunter Henry opened up about what has changed with Josh McDaniels returning as offensive coordinator.
Henry spent his first season with the Patriots with McDaniels as the offensive coordinator back in 2021, but McDaniels left for the head coaching job in Las Vegas the following season. During his run under the six-time Super Bowl winner, Henry proved to be one of the go-to targets by recording 50 catches for 603 yards and nine touchdowns.
Henry figures to remain a focal point in the Patriots' offense with McDaniels returning and the connection he has already built with second-year quarterback Drake Maye. When appearing on Patriots All Access, the veteran tight end teased some changes in McDaniels' returning offense in New England.
'It's a lot of similar things. It's kind of like getting back into it, hearing the verbiage again, kind of getting a feel for things a little bit and seeing things," said Henry. "Working through it with Drake, obviously, it's different in how he sees things. We've added a few new flavors to the offense a little bit. It's been good.'
Henry's familiarity with both McDaniels and Maye, albeit in different situations, could prove to be extremely valuable this season.
It could lead to him having his best year yet in a Patriots uniform.

Aaron Rodgers hits back at Terry Bradshaw after Steelers legend called his signing a ‘joke'

Aaron Rodgers has plenty of respect for Terry Bradshaw, who spent 14 years with — and won four Super Bowls for — the same Steelers franchise that Rodgers is now tasked with quarterbacking. But Bradshaw, who shredded Pittsburgh's decision to pursue Rodgers in May as 'a joke,' is only basing those judgements off perception and 'doesn't know me,' Rodgers said in an interview with NFL Network on Saturday. 'I've known Terry for a long time, being a part of Fox,' Rodgers said. 'Terry's a legend. He's an absolute legend. He won four Super Bowls. He's had a legendary career in the media. But Terry, like a lot of people, doesn't know me. So he's got an idea of what he thinks about me based on what I've done, the documentary, what I've said, darkness retreat, whatever the hell you want to talk about.' When Bradshaw appeared on Arkansas' 103.7 The Buzz in May, Rodgers' one-year, $13.65 million deal was still more than a week away from being official, and the Steelers were still waiting — and waiting, and waiting — on Rodgers to decide whether he'd play a 21st NFL season or walk away. 3 Aaron Rodgers talks with Kyle Brandt at training camp. NFL And when the 41-year-old opted to play what he acknowledged will likely be his final campaign, he became tasked with erasing the obstacles and struggles from his last two seasons with the Jets — a torn Achilles just four snaps into 2023 and some of the worst numbers of his career in 2024, respectively — and ensure that Pittsburgh's 21-year streak of not having a losing season remains intact. Bradshaw, though, would've preferred a different option at quarterback. 3 Terry Bradshaw is pictured in February 2023 at the Super Bowl. USA TODAY Sports 'That's a joke. That is, just to me, is a joke,' Bradshaw said at the time. 'What are you going to do, bring him in for one year, are you kidding me? That guy needs to stay in California. Go somewhere and chew on bark and whisper to the gods out there.' Rodgers, when specifically asked about Bradshaw's comments, joked that 'I whisper to the gods every single day' and extended an open invitation to get to know Bradshaw 'on a deeper level if he's open to it.' 3 Aaron Rodgers is pictured July 26 at training camp. AP 'I feel like if he gave me a chance to get to know him then we'd have a good friendship,' Rodgers told NFL Network, 'because for me I have nothing but the utmost amount of respect and deference for what the greats have done because they laid the foundation for us to be able to play in this great game, to be paid like kings. … So I'd love to get to know Terry on a deeper level if he's open to it. Maybe we can go chew some bark, or whatever the hell he's talking about, together.' Rodgers, who revealed after signing with the Steelers that he got married in the offseason, will face his former team in Week 1 when they travel to MetLife Stadium for a matchup with the Jets.

Derrick Henry says he's still haunted by dropped pass in divisional playoff loss

Mark Andrews is not the only Baltimore Ravens skill position player with deep regrets from the 2025 AFC Divisional Round loss to the Buffalo Bills. While Andrews' mistake is one that's been covered and discussed in volume (and now sets itself up for a good redemption arc story), Derrick Henry made a mistake that flies under the radar. Yes, Henry also dropped a pass in the 27-25 elimination loss to the Bills, but it's one that few people remember. It feels like Henry is the only one who remembers it, but it's still haunting him right now. It came on the Ravens' very first drive of the game- King Henry was wide open, with tons of daylight in front of him, but he couldn't corral the pass from Lamar Jackson. While it was a bad drop, it ultimately had no real bearing on the game's result, as Rashod Bateman completed the drive with a touchdown catch from Jackson. However, Henry is a perfectionist, and his gaffe is still bothering him six months later. "I still think about the pass I dropped early in that game," Henry said while making at an appearance on NFL Network. Asked how often he thinks about this specific dropped pass, he responded: "All the time; it still makes me cringe." Derrick Henry says he still thinks about the pass he dropped in the #Ravens playoff loss to the #Bills. How often? "All the time. It still makes me cringe."@nflnetwork @BaldyNFL — Bridget Condon (@BridgetCondon_) July 26, 2025 The fact that this mistake bothers him so much reveals a great deal about who he is and what he stands for. Although it didn't significantly impact the game, Henry found his drop unacceptable. This mindset reflects the high-level motivation he possesses. You can see this mindset in his intense workout videos, which go viral every offseason and preseason. Henry is dedicated to being the best. In addition to that, he seems to be a good man off the field as well. Henry has been known to give back to the community.
