2026 5-star DL reportedly '50-50' between choosing Texas A&M or LSU

2026 5-star DL reportedly '50-50' between choosing Texas A&M or LSU

USA Todaya day ago
Texas A&M is reportedly in a dead heat with the LSU Tigers for the top-ranked defensive lineman in the 2026 recruiting class, as five-star Lamar Brown is set to make his announcement on Thursday, July 10. After taking back-to-back official visits to LSU and Texas A&M over the past two weekends, the versatile lineman is reportedly "50-50" heading into next week.
This week, coach Mike Elko and his staff are focused on 2026 five-star wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster and four-star linebacker Tank Jones, who are set to commit on Friday. While the Aggies are slight favorites to land both standout athletes, nothing is guaranteed until both players sign with the program.
On Monday, On3's AggieYell recruiting insider Landyn Rosow provided another update regarding Lamar Brown's status ahead of his commitment, noting that the progress Elko and defensive line coaches Sean Spencer and Tony Jerod-Eddie have made has truly made his decision a coin toss.
"2026 Baton Rouge (La.) University Lab defensive tackle Lamar Brown has long been the biggest A&M target on the board, and he is set to make his decision July 10. Over the past few months, you've seen twist and turns in this recruitment, and this one is shaping to come down to LSU and A&M, and with talking with some sources they believe A&M has just as good as shot to land this one as LSU sources described it as a 'True 50-50'.
If the Aggies can land some of these highly-rated commits, Texas A&M recruiting for 2026 will be in outstanding shape. If they were to add all of them, they'll have a real shot at walking away with the number one class in the nation."
As Rosow notes, even LSU sources feel like the Aggies are in great shape to pull off one of the most significant recruiting victories of the summer, as Brown is seen as a future first-round NFL draft selection and an immediate contributor during his freshman season.
According to On3, Brown is currently positioned as the 7th-ranked 2026 prospect, and the No. 1-ranked athlete and prospect out of Louisiana.

Ohio State football players well-represented at top end of 'College Football 26' ratings

We continue to count down to the release of EA Sports' "College Football 26," the second-year reboot of the popular college football video game franchise. Those who purchase the Deluxe Edition will have early access on July 7, with everyone being able to gain access on July 10. Leading up to that, EA Sports has been releasing some information about the game that's sure to become a staple of many college football fans. One of those things the game-maker is sending out on social media is some of the ratings of the teams and players. We already know that Jeremiah Smith is the highest-rated player in the game, and that Ohio State is ranked as the third-best team you can play with, but on Tuesday, EA Sports released some of the top-end rankings of other players. Included were the top ten ranked offensive players, and yeah, Smith was on top of that list. However, instead of the original screenshot of him being an overall 99, it now appears as though the superstar wideout is an overall "98." There aren't any other OSU players among the top ten on the offensive side, and only one other Big Ten player, Penn State Nicholas Singleton, who barely made the cut as the No. 10 rated offensive player with an overall 93. Alabama receiver -- who just so happens to be with Smith on the cover of the game -- is the second best player with an overall rating of 96. But wait. Not only does Ohio State have the highest-rated offensive player, it also has the best defensive player in the game, with safety Caleb Downs ranking No. 1 with an overall rating of 96. Like the offensive side, Downs is the only OSU defensive player in the top ten and just one of two Big Ten players with Oregon safety Dillon Thieneman coming in at No. 10 with an overall rating of 93. In addition to sharing the top ten on both sides of the ball, EA Sports also released the top five by position, and one other Buckeye made those lists with transfer tight end Max Klare checking in as the No. 3 tight end in the game with an overall rating of 91. We'll have a further breakdown of Ohio State players when the complete list of ratings is released by EA Sports. That should be an interesting look at what the game believes about OSU's roster for the 2025 season. For now, though, somewhat unsurprisingly, the Buckeyes are well-represented at the top of what the game has to offer. Two LSU football players among fastest players in College Football 26

Rankings for EA Sports' College Football 26 video game continue to be released. LSU wide receivers Barion Brown and Jelani Watkins received recognition in the latest drop. Brown ranks second on a list of the game's top 10 fastest players while Watkins ranks seventh. Brown's rating of 99 is tied with the other four top players, and Watkins' rating of 98 is tied with the following four players. Advertisement Players in the SEC accounted for seven of the top 10, led by South Carolina wide receiver Nyck Harbor. LSU is the only school with two players on the list. UCLA, Penn State, and Pitt are all represented as well. Brown transferred from Kentucky as part of the country's top transfer class, ranking third at his position. He came in heralded as a speedster who can beat defenders on the outside or in the slot. Watkins redshirted last season, his first in Baton Rouge. He was a consensus four-star prospect in the 2024 class, ranking No. 25 at his position and No. 37 out of Texas. With so many experienced receivers joining the team, it will be tough for him to see consistent time. Star LSU football linebacker Whit Weeks named preseason All-American by Walter Camp

LSU linebacker Whit Weeks earned preseason second-team All-American recognition from the Walter Camp Foundation on Tuesday. Weeks' selection makes him one of the nation's top six linebackers. He led the Tigers with 125 tackles while adding 10 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks in 2024. The performance made him an All-SEC first team selection. The SEC led the selections with 12 schools represented and 16 players. Linebackers Jason Henderson of Old Dominion and Suntarine Perkins of Ole Miss join Weeks on the second team. Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnick earned first team honors while Arizona State's passer Sam Leavitt earned second team honors. Weeks returns to the gridiron for his junior year following a six-month recovery from surgery on a dislocated ankle and broken fibula. He was carted off the field during the second quarter of the Kinder's Texas Bowl against Baylor after he went down making a tackle. Weeks and fellow linebacker Harold Perkins return to lead a retooled LSU defense, which includes additions from the country's top 2025 transfer portal class.
