Michigan football boosts 2026 class with 4-star WR Travis Johnson from Virginia
The maize and blue already have two wide receivers committed in Dallas (Tx.) Episcopal three-star Jaylen Pile and Mansfield (Tx.) four-star Zion Robinson. But the Wolverines are looking to add at least one more, if not two.
While top target Miami (Fla.) Northwestern five-star Calvin Russell will make his decision on Saturday evening, another that Michigan football has been after for some time decides on Independence Day in Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith four-star wideout Travis Johnson. At 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Johnson has offers from the likes of Penn State, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Miami, and others.
But on Friday, he committed to the Wolverines.
Scouting report and highlights
Here's the scouting report from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins:
Well-rounded wide receiver with the size, speed and focus to emerge as a trusted option at the Power Four level. Height and bounce suggest that he's destined to play on the outside, but is sudden and quick enough to win from an interior alignment with his slick route running. Attacks cushion with good surge off the line and can reach a top gear before changing course with full-tilt cuts. Might not be a true power forward at the catch point, but can play above shoulder pads with his timing and body control. Will shed a tackle or two with the ball in his hands and has surprising agility in tight quarters for someone of his stature. Missed time as a junior due to injury, but still finished the season with over 1,000 receiving yards before turning heads at the OT7 Finals summer before senior year. Rather narrow in the shoulders for a pass catcher that's verified at over 6-foot-3, but projects as a potential impact player on Saturdays that will work for his quarterbacks. Mature game could have him in the lineup sooner rather than later.
And here are his junior highlights:
The currently committed class
Here is what the 2026 class looks like now that Johnson is in the fold:
All rankings by the 247Sports Composite
With Johnson in the fold, Michigan football moves back up to No. 7 from No. 9, surpassing Clemson and Miami, while being behind USC, Georgia, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Ohio State, and Alabama in the 247Sports team rankings.

Update on top Clemson target, 5-star EDGE recruit Bryce Perry-Wright commitment decision
A big decision from a prized five-star recruit in the 2026 recruiting class has the Clemson Tigers and other schools playing the waiting game. Five-star EDGE Bryce Perry-Wright is set to announce his commitment Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. A 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive lineman out of Buford High School in Georgia, Perry-Wright has long been viewed as a favorite to sign with Clemson. But a late push from Texas A&M and second-year coach Mike Elko this week has added some last-minute drama and could throw a wrench into the Tigers' hopes. On Wednesday, On3/Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction that the Peach State star would sign with Texas A&M. On Friday, though, Rivals' Texas-based recruiting analyst Cody Carpentier gave a different projection. In his updated "FUTURECAST" outlook, Carpentier has Perry-Wright committing to Clemson. The Texas Longhorns and Clemson's ACC rival Miami Hurricanes are also in the mix for Perry-Wright, who ranks as the No. 32 overall recruit in 247Sports' 2026 recruiting class rankings. He is the nation's No. 2 defensive lineman in 247Sports' rankings, while On3 ranks him the No. 5 lineman and No. 33 overall recruit. Perry-Wright is the No. 5 overall player in the state of Georgia, per 247Sports, which gave him a crystal ball projection to commit to Clemson back on May 29 before Texas A&M began making its push. Perry-Wright's commitment ceremony will be streamed live on CBS Sports HQ and YouTube Saturday. Clemson football recruiting 2026 Clemson added five recruits to its 2026 class in the month of June: four-star defensive lineman Keshawn Stancil (Clayton, North Carolina), four-star EDGE Dre Quinn (Buford, Georgia), three-star defensive lineman JR Hardrick (South Pittsburg, Tennessee), and four-star offensive linemen Leo Delaney and Carter Scruggs. On3 and 247Sports both rank Clemson's 2026 recruiting class in the top 10, at No. 9 and 10, respectively. At last update, ESPN ranked the Tigers with the nation's No. 6 overall class with 11 ESPN 300 recruits. Georgia hits new 2026 recruiting claim after landing No. 1 DL
The post Georgia hits new 2026 recruiting claim after landing No. 1 DL appeared first on ClutchPoints. Georgia football finds itself in a competitive arms race during June. The Bulldogs are trying to out-recruit countless of programs despite not holding the No. 1 overall ranking. But they hit a new college football recruiting claim Saturday. Advertisement The Bulldogs swooped up the nation's best defensive lineman James 'J.J.' Johnson Saturday. Johnson spurned Southeastern Conference rivals Texas, Florida plus Atlantic Coast Conference power Miami for Georgia. He adds a new star trench man for head coach Kirby Smart. But Johnson's commitment handed Georgia this new accolade. Per Hayes Fawcett of On3. 'Georgia is the only school to land TWO No. 1 Ranked Recruits at their respective positions in the '26 Class,' Fawcett shared. The other No. 1 recruit for UGA is the nation's top quarterback Jared Curtis. The QB even tried courting No. 1 tackle Jackson Cantwell before he chose Miami. He's the state of Florida's 10th best overall prospect by 247Sports. The 6-foot-3, 285-pound defensive tackle landed 43 different scholarship offers. The standout from Miami area powerhouse Northwestern High brings impact written all over him. Director of scouting for 247Sports Andrew Ivins wrote a glowing take of Johnson in his prospect evaluation. 'Explosive defensive tackle with all the fixings to make a living up front. More of a one-gap player than he is a two-gap player at this stage, but has the mass to dock in the middle,' Ivins wrote. Advertisement He added how Johnson added 25 pounds of frame to help prepare for his senior season. Johnson also impressed Ivins with his 'raw' upper body strength. Lastly, Johnson brings an impressive 82-inch wingspan over to Athens for the future. Johnson heads to a place that's been on a tear with developing trench stars. Georgia watched Jalen Carter dominate offensive linemen and quarterbacks for the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. The Bulldogs also just produced the 11th overall pick of the NFL Draft Mykel Williams. Georgia football lands 4-star WR over 3 SEC rivals
The post Georgia football lands 4-star WR over 3 SEC rivals appeared first on ClutchPoints. Two months ahead of the 2025 college football season, Georgia landed its next major class of 2026 recruit. Kirby Smart continued the never-ending recruiting process by adding four-star receiver Craig Dandridge to the Bulldogs' evolving offense. Advertisement Dandridge committed to Georgia over offers from Tennessee, Oklahoma, Florida, Georgia Tech and Stanford, On3 Sports' Hayes Fawcett reported. The athletic wideout is rated as the 38th-best wide receiver prospect of the class by 247 Sports. Upon landing in Athens, Dandridge will be a part of Georgia's new offensive era. The Bulldogs' current top wideouts — Zachariah Branch, Dillon Bell, Noah Thomas and Colbie Thomas — are all expected to leave after the 2025 season. Georgia's current group of young receivers includes four-star freshmen CJ Wiley, Talyn Taylor and Landon Roldan. Three-star prospects Tyler Williams and Thomas Blackshear are also competing for snaps. Craig Dandridge joins Georgia football's class of 2026 Joshua L. Jones / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Dandridge is only the latest recruit to join Georgia's 2026 college football recruiting class. The Bulldogs' incoming class is currently a top-three group in the country, led by five-star quarterback Jared Curtis. Advertisement Coming off a disappointing 2024 season, Smart has been active in recruiting during the 2025 offseason. Georgia has not let off the gas, seemingly obtaining a new high-profile recruit every few days. While the hype for the 2026 season is already high, Georgia will have to get through a challenging 2025 season. After losing quarterback Carson Beck in the transfer portal, the Bulldogs have a massive question to answer under center. They are currently slated to have former backup Gunner Stockton take over, despite how poorly he played in Beck's stead in the 2024 postseason. In addition to Beck, Georgia also lost defensive stars Mykel Williams, Jalon Walker and Malaki Starks, who were all taken in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Offensive linemen Dylan Fairchild and Tate Ratledge also departed, along with running back Trevor Etienne. The draft departures added to the Bulldogs' transfer portal losses, setting up substantial changes on both sides of the ball.
