Irish teen Dunne steps up to Formula 2 with Rodin
The 19-year-old will drive for Rodin Motorsport in Formula 2, which is the category below Formula 1 and races alongside motorsport's premier series.
After an impressive rise up the motorsport ladder, Dunne was signed in May as a Development Driver by McLaren, who won the Formula 1 constructors' title in 2024.
Dunne secured two podiums while driving for MP Motorsport in his first season in Formula 3.
"I'm looking forward to the upcoming season and thankful for everyone's support in getting me to this stage – I can't wait to hit the ground running," Dunne said.
He drove for Rodin Motorsport in the post-season Formula 2 test for Rodin in Abu Dhabi in December and he posted the third-fastest lap on the final day at the Yas Marina circuit.
His team-mate at Rodin will be Australia's Christian Mansell, who had a best finish of fifth in Formula 3.
"Alex's talent, dedication, and passion for racing align perfectly with our team's values and ambitions," said Rodin's motorsport sporting director and team manager Benn Huntingford.
"We are confident that he will make a significant impact in the upcoming season and know that he is capable of enjoying a really great season with the team."

The champion Irish underdog aiming for Formula 1
Dunne dominated the 2022 British F4 Championship - a title previously won by McLaren's Grand Prix winner Lando Norris - and was runner-up in the GB3 Championship before his graduation to Formula 3 this year.
He was also second in the Italian F4 championship in 2022 behind Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who will replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes' Formula 1 team in 2025.
Dunne is aiming to become the first driver from the island of Ireland to race in Formula 1 since four-time Grand Prix winner Eddie Irvine, whose last season was with Jaguar in 2002.
Adam Carroll, from Portadown, was the last driver to race in Formula 2 in 2005 and 2006, a period in which he was test driver for BAR Honda's Formula 1 team.
In addition to his Formula 2 commitments, Dunne will be reserve driver for McLaren's Formula E team and will drive for the team in the rookie practice in Jeddah in Saudi Arabia on 13 February.
Rodin finished eighth in the teams' standings in the 2024 Formula 2 season with Japan's Ritomo Miyata and Barbados driver Zane Maloney, who finished fourth in the drivers' championship with two wins and seven podiums.
The 2025 Formula 2 season consists of 28 races across 14 rounds, starting in Australia on 15 March and concluding in Abu Dhabi on 7 December.

Notre Dame football starts off near the top in the 2025 preseason US LBM Coaches Poll
(This story was updated to add new information.) While it's hard to take a ton of stock into preseason polls, Notre Dame is still ranked as the No. 5 team in the first USA TODAY US LBM Coaches Poll of the 2025 season. The Irish are behind just a few schools: Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, and Georgia but will have a chance to move up the poll, especially considering it's first two games are against No. 10 Miami on the road and No. 21 Texas A&M at home. They'll play No. 25 Boise State in the middle of the season as well. The rest of the top-10 is Clemson, Oregon, Alabama and LSU. Other teams of note are Illinois at No. 12, Michigan at No. 14, and Indiana at No. 19. Expectations are still very high in South Bend, despite some questions marks at quarterback and on the offensive line. Like last year, the defense is expected the carry the team until the offense gets more comfortable. The tough early schedule will go a long ways into how people will perceive Notre Dame, as they start off with two tough contests. Meet the 2025 Freaks List: Every year The Athletic drops a list of its top-101 college football freaks (subscription required), players who might not be the best across the nation, but have incredible testing numbers and this season Notre Dame saw two of its players being included. First it was defensive end Bryce Young, who during his freshman season flashed multiple times, most notably on special teams where he blocked three kicks. The legacy checked in at No. 44, as Bruce Feldman wrote that despite adding 'almost 30 pounds since arriving last year, but still managed to vertical jump 35 1/2 inches and broad jump 9-5. He benched 335 pounds and cleaned 355.' Young has the look of a second-year breakout player, and many, including myself believe that is the case. The second Irish player to make the list was tight end Eli Raridon at No. 85. While he hasn't been healthy enough to stay on the field for extended periods, the junior is a physical specimen. Feldman says that Raridon 'displayed plenty of explosiveness this offseason, vertical jumping 34 inches and broad jumping 9-10. He's also quite strong, benching 350 pounds, power cleaning 335 and squatting 535.' While offensive tackle Anthonie Knapp didn't make the list, Feldman still mentioned that he 'made a compelling case for a spot.' With a 30 inch vertical and benching 425 pounds, it looks like the 6-foot, 5-inch and 300-pound tackle just barely missed the cut.
