Life in jail for growing drugs at home

KUWAIT CITY, June 29: The Criminal Court sentenced a citizen to life imprisonment for growing marijuana in his apartment in Salwa and drug trafficking. The citizen was caught red-handed in possession of large quantities of narcotics, gold bars and cash believed to be proceeds from trafficking in narcotics. The sentence was issued following extensive investigations conducted by the Drug Control General Department (DCGD) at the Interior Ministry, which monitored the activities of the citizen as per the directive of Assistant Undersecretary for Criminal Security Affairs Major General Hamed Al-Dawas and under the supervision of Director of the department Brigadier General Mohammad Qabazard, and his assistant, Brigadier General Hamad Al-Sabah. According to a security source, the anti-narcotics officers, after careful monitoring, were able to connect the threads of the case after noticing a significant spread of marijuana in certain areas, particularly in the Capital and Hawally Governorates, and the chalet area. He added that investigations led to the identification of the accused, a Kuwaiti, who was using his apartment for preparing, packaging and storing drugs -- 45 marijuana plants, four kilograms of the substance ready for distribution, 37 kilograms of gold bars and precious metals. The Public Prosecution charged the accused with drug trafficking, possession of narcotic substances for distribution, cultivation of prohibited substances within the residence, and collecting money through an illegal activity.

Kuwait Court: Husband's Absence No Obstacle to Wife's Property Rights

KUWAIT CITY, June 29: The Administrative Court has ruled in favor of a Kuwaiti woman, granting her the right to initiate procedures for issuing a title deed in equal shares with her husband, without requiring his presence or signature. The ruling follows the husband's arbitrary refusal to complete the registration process, despite all legal and procedural requirements being fulfilled. The title deed must be issued with a mortgage in favor of the Kuwait Credit Bank. The case was filed by the woman's legal representative, lawyer Hawra Al-Habib, who explained that her client is the wife of the first defendant and mother of their four children. Together, they had applied to the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (the second defendant) for a residential plot, which was duly allocated to them. All formalities had been completed, including municipal clearances, notary records, and the connection of electricity services. However, the husband refused to proceed with the title deed issuance without providing a valid reason, effectively obstructing his wife's legal right. The court concluded that the husband's actions constituted an abuse of rights, unjustly depriving the plaintiff of her entitlement to co-ownership of the government-allocated property. Based on these findings, the court ruled that the woman is legally entitled to proceed with the issuance of the title deed independently, under applicable legal procedures.

Saudi Man Jailed For 7 Years For Forging Kuwaiti Citizenship

KUWAIT CITY, June 28: The Criminal Court sentenced a Saudi national to seven years in prison with hard labor and fined him KD336,000 for forging a naturalization application in collaboration with a Kuwaiti citizen by claiming to be his 'biological son', which enabled him to obtain Kuwaiti citizenship and later be appointed to the Ministry of Defense with the rank of sergeant. The ruling stated that the defendant was arrested at Salmi border, while attempting to flee. A Saudi identification card and a Kuwaiti civil identification card were found in his possession. It was later determined that he tried to leave the country to evade financial obligations and bank loans. The court imposed seven-year prison sentence on the fugitive Kuwaiti citizen and his Saudi father, after it was proven that they were involved in the forgery. The court confirmed in its ruling that the defendants made a blatant attack on national identity and tampered with official documents which affected sovereignty, stressing the seriousness of this type of crime in undermining confidence in State institutions.
