Ex-mayor urges govt to restore heritage buildings in Mysuru
The deteriorating heritage structures not only raise concern but also pose a danger to public safety and the city's rich cultural legacy.
Speaking to reporters, he said among the 129 officially-declared heritage structures, except for a few heritage buildings, mainly Devaraja Market, Maharani's College, and Lansdowne Building, most of them are in a dilapidated condition. Incessant rain and lack of funding for their upkeep have further exacerbated the problem.
As tourism in Mysuru is heavily dependent on its heritage quotient, the lack of focus on the upkeep of heritage structures is negatively impacting tourism. The state govt must initiate urgent measures for the restoration of these structures.
He said the state govt has also announced plans to convert the Old DC office building into a museum at the cost of Rs 78 crore, but the works were not started in this regard.
He mentioned that a non-political delegation, including MLAs and MPs, will be taken to meet the chief minister to prevail upon him to initiate measures for the protection of the heritage buildings.

12-Year-Old Asks Father To Pay 1 Crore For Custody, Top Court Warns Mother
New Delhi: Hearing a child custody case, Chief Justice of India BR Gavai warned a 12-year-old girl's mother against "spoiling her mind" after the child demanded Rs 1 crore from her father if he wanted her to stay with him. The child, the court noted, also attacked her father with a stick and warned her mother that this would "come back" to her someday. Senior Advocate PR Patwalia, appearing for the father, told the court that the couple had a matrimonial dispute, after which the district court granted the child's custody to the father. The mother's challenge to the order in the high court is pending, but she has not handed over the child's custody, the lawyer said. The high court rejected the father's contempt case, and he approached the top court. Mr Patwalia told the bench, also comprising Justice K Vinod Chandran, that in September last year, the Supreme Court asked the district legal services authority to appoint a paralegal volunteer to ensure that the father's visitation rights are implemented. At this point, Chief Justice Gavai recounted that the child had also attacked her father with a stick in the past. "Now, kindly see what happened yesterday. Only yesterday, again the girl has declined to come with me. And she says that 'you are harassing my mother, you have filed a contempt (case), you please give Rs 1 crore, otherwise I will not go. On top of that, in the school records, the mother has deleted the name of the father," Mr Patwali said. He added that "punishing the mother is not going to achieve anything" and sought mediation in the matter. When the mother's counsel, Anubha Agrawal, said she was open to mediation, Chief Justice Gavai told the mother, "You are unnecessarily dragging your child, you are spoiling the career of your child, you are spoiling her mind. This will come back someday." The court eventually referred the matter to a mediator after both sides agreed. "Taking into consideration that the dispute is a matrimonial dispute, we consider it appropriate to refer the parties to mediation. With the consent of parties, we appoint Hon'ble Ms. Justice Ritu Bahri, Former Chief Justice of High Court of Uttarakhand as Mediator. The Mediator shall consider all the issues between the parties," it said.

Bihar Assembly uproar continues on 4th day over voter list revision issue
Patna: The fourth day of the Monsoon Session of the Bihar Assembly began with continued uproar by opposition MLAs, who are demanding a special discussion in the House on the ongoing voter list revision (SIR) in the state. Mahagathbandhan MLAs arrived wearing black clothes, raising slogans inside and outside the Assembly, protesting alleged irregularities in the voter list revision. The opposition alleges that the Election Commission of India, in collusion with the government, is conspiring to remove the names of the poor and disadvantaged voters from the voter list, impacting the upcoming elections. The issue has now escalated to the High Court and the Supreme Court. The opposition leaders reiterated that the House proceedings will not continue until there is a dedicated discussion on SIR, demanding the withdrawal of the current voter list revision campaign. Due to the continuous ruckus, question hour and member queries have not been addressed for the last two days, preventing public issues from being raised. If protests continue for the day inside the House, questions from various departments listed for discussion may also remain unanswered. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister cum Finance Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who had presented the supplementary budget on July 21, said it will be discussed on the day. The Social Welfare Department's budget -- which has received the highest allocation in the supplementary budget -- is scheduled for detailed discussion. On July 21, Samrat Choudhary had presented a supplementary budget exceeding Rs 57,946 crore in the Assembly. The state government will also present the CAG report in the House. The voter list revision ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections has become a flashpoint between the ruling NDA and the opposition Mahagathbandhan. While the government maintains that the revision process is necessary for fair elections, the opposition claims that the process is flawed, poorly timed during the rainy and farming season, and threatens to disenfranchise the poor and migrant voters.
