From IMAX Cameras To Star-Studded Cast: 5 Fun Facts About Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey'

Hype Malaysia15 hours ago
Set in ancient Greek mythology, the legendary Greek King Odysseus sets out on a perilous 10-year journey back home to Ithaca, after the Trojan War. Facing mythical creatures, treacherous seas and countless trials, we follow this hero in the greatest cinematic epic of all time.
Known for his cinematic masterpieces such as 'Inception' and his Academy Award-winning film, 'Oppenheimer', Christopher Nolan is a favourite name among film enthusiasts and critics alike. With each film of his proving to be a hit at the box office, Nolan's upcoming 2026 Greek mythology film, 'Odyssey', has been the talk since its announcement. As we wait for the premiere of his next work, here are some fun facts about 'Odyssey':
1. It Will Be Shot Entirely With IMAX Cameras
From the man who grew an entire field of corn to skip the use of CGI, 'Odyssey' will be the first film ever to be shot entirely on IMAX cameras. To put it into perspective, 'Oppenheimer', which was Nolan's film known to have used shots on IMAX, only had 23% of its footage or 70 minutes, shot with the format. This means we're looking at quality sound and image for his most anticipated film.
2. It Will Be Shot At 'Goat Island'
Just as Homer imagined Odysseus resting at the 'Island of Wonders', which is now known as Favignana or 'Goat Island' off the coast of Sicily, Nolan will be shooting at the very location where it is said that the Greek King set foot. The film was also said to be shot in other locations around the world, with rumoured locations to feature Monaco, the UK and Greece.
3. It Features A Star-Studded Cast
When you've got a decorated director on the cusp of his next biggest film, its cast should also reflect his storytelling to its maximum potential. Joining Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland is speculated to play his son, Telemachus, in the film. Other notable cast members include Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Anne Hathaway, Mia Goth, Robert Pattinson, Jon Berthal, Elliot Page, and Lupita Nyong'o.
4. Film Parents!
It is confirmed that Christopher Nolan will team up with his wife, Emma Thomas, for the production of 'Odyssey'. Three-time Academy Award winner and longtime production partner, Thomas, had co-produced all of Nolan's films with him, including 'The Dark Knight' and 'Dunkirk'. Cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema, who worked on 'Interstellar, and 'Tenet' with Nolan, also joins the project.
5. It's Set To Release In 2026
Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey' is set to premiere worldwide on 17th July 2026. With only two released visuals from the movie and cast members filming in Sicily, details of the film are yet to be revealed. However, there is just over a year left until the premiere, so fans can anticipate more teasers in the coming months.

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness finalise divorce in less than 3 weeks

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness had been married since 1996 after meeting on the set of the Australian miniseries 'Correlli'. Photo: TNS Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are officially divorced less than three weeks after she filed to end their marriage of nearly 30 years. Online records show the former couple's divorce was finalised on June 12 in New York's Suffolk County Supreme Court. According to People , the documents, which were uploaded online Monday, now list the status of the case as 'disposed.' The filing specified the terms of the divorce had been uncontested and would only need to be signed off by a judge. Furness filed to end their marriage on May 27, roughly two years after the pair initially announced they'd broken up in the wake of speculation that Jackman was dating his Music Man co-star Sutton Foster. In a statement to People late last month, Furness said her 'heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal'. 'It's a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us,' she said. Though rumours regarding Jackman and Foster had been swirling since 2022, the duo only confirmed their relationship earlier this year. Furness officially filed the divorce papers roughly five months later. Jackman, 56, and Furness, 69, had been married since 1996 after meeting on the set of the Australian miniseries Correlli . Together, they share two adopted children: son Oscar, 25, and daughter Ava, 19. Foster, meanwhile, filed for divorce from screenwriter Ted Griffin in October 2024, after 10 years of marriage. The exes share daughter Emily, whom they also welcomed via adoption. – New York Daily News/Tribune News Service

Greece starts charging tourist tax on cruises

ATHENS: Greece on Tuesday began charging a tax on island cruise ships, the latest European effort to tackle soaring visitor numbers to the continent's most popular destinations. Cruise ships docking at the popular islands of Santorini and Mykonos will pay 20 euros per passenger starting on Tuesday. 'In accordance with the law, the tax will be applied in Santorini, Mykonos and other islands in lesser measures,' the Greek finance ministry told AFP. Cruise ships to smaller islands will pay a tax of five euros per passenger, according to the new regulations. Greece adopted the legislation, which applies during the high summer season, last year in an effort to curb soaring tourist numbers to its most popular destinations, the latest country in Europe to take such measures. Italian authorities in Venice, one of the world's top tourist destinations, last year introduced payments for day visitors, who must pay an access fee of five euros ($5.15) on certain days. In Spain, the government has cracked down on illegal short-term tourist rentals, with sites like Airbnb and ordered to take down thousands of ads, amid local alarm about increasingly scarce and unaffordable housing. The hugely popular island of Ibiza in June began limiting the number of incoming tourist cars and caravans because of the increasing numbers of visitors. Locals in Barcelona and elsewhere in Spain, the world's second most-visited country, have held protests against over-tourism.
