Apple may bring this ‘obsolete' Macbook model with an iPhone chip
Apple is reportedly planning to launch an
affordable Macbook
that may be powered by an
iPhone chip
. According to analyst Ming-Chi-Kuo, the rumoured MacBook model is expected to enter mass production in the fourth quarter of 2025 or early 2026. Taking to microblogging platform X (formerly known as Twitter), Kuo says that the low-cost MacBook may come powered by
A18 Pro chipset
, the one that powers the current iPhone 16 Pro models.
In the post, Kuo says that 'Apple aims to return total MacBook shipments to the COVID-19 peak of around 25 million units in 2026 (vs. an estimated 20 million units in 2025).' 'The more-affordable MacBook is projected to account for 5–7 million units for 2026,' he added.
While there is no official confirmation, the upcoming MacBook model is likely to be a successor to the
12-inch Retina MacBook
that debuted 10 years ago. The 12-inch MacBook gave an early look at the future of Mac computers. Introducing the new MacBook then, CEO Tim Cook called it a "reinvention" of the notebook. Years later, the product was discontinued after the launch of the 2019 MacBook Air.

The upcoming MacBook model is said to be equipped with a 13-inch screen. As previously mentioned, it is said to run on A18 Pro processor. Colour variants may include silver, blue, pink, and yellow, the analyst says. The affordable MacBook may debut in late 2025 or early 2026.
In another news, Apple is developing at least seven head-mounted devices across two product lines, with smart glasses positioned to become the next major consumer electronics trend, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's latest forecast. The company's aggressive timeline spans from 2025 to 2028, with Ray-Ban-style smart glasses expected to lead the charge in 2027.
The company's first consumer smart glasses will enter mass production in Q2 2027, targeting 3-5 million unit shipments in their debut year. These Ray-Ban competitors will feature voice control, gesture recognition, camera capabilities, and AI-powered environmental sensing without display functionality. Kuo predicts Apple's entry will push total smart glasses market shipments beyond 10 million units in 2027, transforming a niche category into mainstream adoption.

As Apple's AI struggles continue, it again looks at these technology companies including one backed by Amazon
Apple Inc is considering a major shift in its artificial intelligence strategy, exploring partnerships with Anthropic PBC or OpenAI to power a new version of Siri, potentially sidelining its in-house AI models, Bloomberg reported. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This move aims to bolster Apple's struggling AI efforts and keep pace with competitors in the rapidly evolving generative AI landscape. According to the report, citing sources familiar with the matter, Apple has engaged in discussions with both Anthropic and OpenAI about integrating their large language models, such as Claude or ChatGPT, into Siri. The company has requested these firms train custom versions of their models to run on Apple's cloud infrastructure, specifically its Private Cloud Compute servers powered by high-end Mac chips, to prioritize user privacy. These talks remain in early stages, and Apple has not finalized its decision, with an internal project, dubbed LLM Siri, still developing in-house models. The initiative, led by Siri chief Mike Rockwell and software engineering head Craig Federighi, follows a reassignment of Siri oversight from Apple's AI chief, John Giannandrea, amid delays and underwhelming responses to Apple Intelligence features. The report noted that Rockwell, who assumed the Siri engineering role in March, instructed his team to evaluate whether third-party models like Claude, ChatGPT, or Google's Gemini outperform Apple's own technology. Testing reportedly showed Anthropic's Claude as the most promising fit for Siri's needs, prompting talks led by Apple's vice president of corporate development, Adrian Perica. Siri, launched in 2011, has lagged behind modern AI chatbots, with promised upgrades like enhanced app control and personal data integration delayed from early 2025 to next spring, per Bloomberg. Apple's broader AI strategy remains uncertain, with a multibillion-dollar budget approved for 2026 to run in-house models, but executives are increasingly open to third-party solutions for a quicker turnaround. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now What is Apple's current partnership with OpenAI Apple's current AI features rely on its proprietary Apple Foundation Models, with plans for a 2026 Siri overhaul initially based on this technology. However, the report said that adopting third-party models could help Apple match the capabilities of AI assistants on Android devices, shedding its reputation as an AI laggard. This approach mirrors Samsung's use of Google's Gemini for its Galaxy AI features and Amazon's integration of Anthropic's technology for Alexa+. What Apple's change in AI strategy mean The shift has sparked concerns within Apple's 100-person AI team, led by Ruoming Pang, with morale reportedly souring over the potential reliance on external technology. The report highlighted that some engineers feel their work is being undervalued, with competitors like Meta and OpenAI offering lucrative packages—ranging from $10 million to $40 million annually—to poach talent. Apple recently lost senior researcher Tom Gunter and narrowly retained its MLX team after counteroffers, underscoring the competitive pressure. While Apple already uses ChatGPT for certain Siri queries and text generation, discussions with Anthropic have hit snags over financial terms, with the startup seeking a multibillion-dollar annual fee. If no deal is reached, Apple may pivot to OpenAI or other providers, signaling a potential transformation in its AI approach.

Electric cars charge ahead to nearly double their turf
New Delhi: The share of electric vehicles in new car sales in India expanded at a rapid pace in the first five months of this calendar year, as new products from automakers such as Tata Motors , Mahindra & Mahindra, MG Motor and Hyundai boosted sales that had slowed down the previous year. EVs accounted for 4.4% of new car sales in May and 3.7% in the January-May period, compared with 2.5% in 2024 and 2.2% in 2023, show industry data. Automotive industry insiders said the launch of new EV models with longer range and enhanced features, expansion of charging infrastructure and a reduction in price differential with fossil fuel-powered vehicles have boosted demand for electric vehicles in India. Given the pace of customer adoption, they expect annual EV sales in India to top half a million units by the turn of the decade. Sales in calendar year 2024 were 99,165, according to data collated by the Federation of Automobile Dealers' Associations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Elegant New Scooters For Seniors In 2024: The Prices May Surprise You Mobility Scooter | Search Ads Learn More Undo Customers now have more vehicles to choose from; as many as 16 EV models are currently available to purchase, compared with 10 in 2023. While several of the new vehicles travel a longer distance than the older models on a single charge, the number of charging stations has more than doubled to 26,311 from 12,146 in the same period, as per Bureau of Energy Efficiency data, reducing range anxiety. Industry executives predict the growth to pick up in coming years. Live Events "India's top five automakers who between them control 65% of sales in the local market all have plans to launch electric cars in the mainstream segment going ahead, which in itself opens up a huge potential for expansion in the segment," Hyundai Motor India chief operating officer Tarun Garg said. The country's second largest carmaker, which launched its first mass market electric car, Creta EV, at the start of the year, itself has scheduled to launch half a dozen models in the electric vehicle segment over the next five years. Hyundai also plans to set up 600 DC fast-chargers across the country by 2032, he said, adding that 89 of these are already operational along major highways including Delhi-Chandigarh, Mumbai-Pune and Bengaluru-Chennai. Tata Motors, the leader in the EV market which is revamping its products for fleet demand and launching premium electric SUVs, also predicts a strong uptick in the segment. The company expects 30-40% of its new car sales to come from EVs by 2030. For the broader industry, the company expects electric cars to account for a fifth of new vehicle sales in this period.
