'My stepmum said she had a right to name my baby so I said she'll never meet my daughter'

Daily Record4 days ago
The mum-to-be reacted furiously when her 'insecure' stepmum overstepped the mark.
For all expectant parents, picking a name for your baby is one of the biggest decisions you have to make. It is a hard task and may lead to disagreements, but it can also bring so much joy.

It is something that couples will decide on together and it is the name they - and everyone else - will use for their precious boy or girl for the rest of their life.

With this in mind, it's understandable that parents-to-be can get quite defensive if other people poke their noses in or share unsolicited opinions on it.

And that's what happened to one pregnant woman who was so irate at her stepmum "overstepping" that she banned the woman from ever seeing her child when she was born.
Posting about the situation on Reddit, the mum-to-be revealed she'd never had a great relationship with her stepmother. She and her husband met with her dad and his wife over brunch and she tried to be civil.
But when the older woman tried to pick her daughter's name, claiming she had that "right", the pregnant stepdaughter was furious, The Mirror reports.

In her post on the online forum, she explained: "My stepmum and I never got along. She always pushed me, she wanted me to call her mum and then got mad when I didn't.
"She went through my text messages, she tried to take stuff that I paid for away, and she tried to make me babysit her kids multiple times, even on my prom night.

"My dad and I still talk and he wanted to meet for brunch, so I said yes, unaware that he was bringing her. When they came, we talked for a bit casually with my husband there too, until we got onto the topic of my pregnancy.
"She asked me all kinds of questions and then she got to names, and she told me that I was going to name the baby Amy, which is her daughter's name.

"I politely said no and said we already had a few names in mind. She started asking why I wasn't allowing her to name her grandchild and she should get that right, I told her that it's our right."
At this point, the conversation went south. The pregnant woman continued: "She kept saying that I was taking away her right as a grandparent and that I've always been such a b***h to her for no reason. She said she knew that I never accepted her as my mother from the beginning but said I'm a bad parent if I'm going to project that onto my kid."
The dig at her future parenting skills was a step too far for the mum-to-be. She told her stepmum that she wouldn't be allowed to see her daughter once she was born.

She said: "I stopped everything and told her she's not allowed around my kid. She kept pushing it saying that she always knew I was a brat but to be this bitter to someone who only helped her is absurd.

"I said that she can think that all she wants but I'm going to be naming our child whatever we decide. Then she decided to try to hit close to home saying that I was going to be a horrible mother and I keep adding to how much of a self-centered person I am by taking away her bonding with her grandchild.

"That hit me hard, but I told her she's not going to be seeing my child ever when she's born since she wanted to push her luck. Before I could say more my husband grabbed our stuff and we left."
Reddit users flooded the mum-to-be with support on her post, blasting the stepmother for her behaviour and attitude. One person wrote: "Your dad's partner is way overstepping. I don't understand why your dad lets her continue acting like that."
Another commented: "You're 100 per cent in the right. Your stepmum is an insecure a**hole who only cares about herself. The fact that your dad agrees with her and did not defend you shows exactly how he feels too."

Oasis fans thank Noel Gallagher Scots ex-wife Sara McDonald for reunion after £20M divorce

Oasis fans have thanked Noel's Edinburgh born ex-wife Sara for 'rinsing' him in their divorce settlement and getting the band back together which they believe is the 'real reason' behind their reunion. Scots Oasis fans are now counting down the days until the Oasis Live 25' reunion tour comes to Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium in less than two weeks time. The band abruptly split in 2009 after a fiery fall-out between Liam and Noel Gallagher, which raged on for over 15-years before the two brothers finally announced they'd made peace with one another last year. ‌ The feuding siblings are said to have finally made up over a late night phone call but fans have their own theory for why they eventually put their rift to bed and announced an Oasis comeback. After Oasis announced their reunion tour last August, fans took to social media to credit one unexpected person for their reunion despite that same person previously being suggested as the sole reason the band would never return. ‌ The credit all goes to Noel Gallagher's ex wife, Sara McDonald. The Scots music PR was married to the High Flying Birds frontman for twelve years before they announced they were going their separate ways in 2023, the year before Oasis announced their return. ‌ Noel and Sara, who share kids Donovan, 17, and Sonny, 15, together, made their separation public in January 2023. Whilst being married to Noel, Sara, found herself embroiled in the Oasis feud and was known to not have a good relationship with Liam Gallagher. ‌ She was also known to not be too keen on Oasis' music in general as Noel previously admitted she's "not the biggest fan of anything I've ever done". Liam previously stirred the pot on X, formerly known as Twitter, when he suggested that Sara may be the sole reason why an Oasis reunion would never happen. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! However, in an ironic twist of events, fans now believe Sara McDonald is the exact reason why an Oasis reunion is happening due to the £20m pay out she received from Noel as a result of their divorce. The Scots PR also forced Noel to relinquish their lavish £8m Hampshire home. ‌ TikTok user @lottieaesthetic took to the platform to upload a picture of the former couple with the Oasis track Don't Look Back in Anger playing in the background. The photo was captioned: "I'd like to thank Sara McDonald for rinsing Noel that badly in the divorce. Without you this wouldn't be possible." ‌ The TikTok, which was uploaded in 2024, raked in millions of views, with fans agreeing that money is the real reason why Oasis have made a return. One person replied: "Oasis only getting back together to make a few quid, they hate each other." Someone else chimed in: "Finally someone said it." A third echoed: "Sara, you're a legend babes x." ‌ It seems that Liam was not the only one who wasn't keen on his brother's ex-wife as fans also seem to have a very clear opinion on Sara. One comment read: "Only positive thing Sara contributed to Oasis." A second agreed: "Sara FINALLY did something good." Oasis are currently in the midst of their UK and Ireland 2025 reunion tour with Edinburgh set to be their next stop after their five shows at London's Wembley Stadium. The band will play in the Scots capital at Murrayfield Stadium for three nights on August 8, August 9 and August 12.

Woman created cosmetics line at 65 to empower older women

Tricia Cusden created her make up brand Look Fabulous Forever as she began finding it difficult to find makeup that worked on 'older skin' As women mature, many observe that their makeup no longer applies as it once did - and discovering products compatible with ageing skin can be a task. This led Tricia Cusden to take the initiative and establish her beauty brand Look Fabulous Forever, specifically catering to older women. Tricia launched the brand when she was 65. She points out that one common mistake ageing women make in their beauty regimen is choosing their eyeshadow. Look Fabulous Forever advises that for those noticing fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes, it's time to swap shimmering eyeshadows for matte formulas. To simplify the process of updating their makeup collection, the brand has introduced a range of user-friendly matte eyeshadows designed not only to complement each other but also to enhance the skin's appearance, The Mirror reports. With age, the skin produces less collagen and elastin, leading to visible signs of ageing around the eyes. Consequently, matte eyeshadow becomes more appealing as it applies smoothly without settling into fine lines or accentuating wrinkles with shimmer or glitter. Look Fabulous Forever recommends matte powder eyeshadow as the optimal choice since it doesn't move across your skin or accumulate into fine lines like cream-based products do. The Look Fabulous No Shimmer Eye Shade is a matte powder eyeshadow that effortlessly sweeps across fine lines without settling into creases. Tailored for those with hooded, droopy eyelids or a 'crepe paper' texture, its smooth matte formula promises even coverage and durability. Priced at £19 for individual shadows, customers can also opt for a trio palette featuring three complementary matte shades at £35. Each palette is a complete toolkit for application and a mirror. The palettes are presented in a refillable compact, allowing for easy replenishment once the initial set is used up. For guidance on selecting the perfect hues, Look Fabulous Forever offers a quick colour quiz to assist shoppers. Although the refillable compact set is a fresh addition to the market with few reviews, the original matte eyeshadow trios have garnered acclaim from hundreds of contented buyers, with both products containing the same high-quality eyeshadow. Customer Gillian shared her experience: "I ordered the green three-shade eye shadow palette and have been really pleased with this product. It goes on smoothly, is subtle, and stays put. The matte shadow is perfect on older skin. Another buyer, Felicity, said: "I've always been a fan of Look Fabulous Forever's eyeshadows and have built up quite a collection. I was tempted by the soft purples as a change from the more neutral shades. "I'm just thrilled with the results. These soft purples really make my hazel eyes pop and I've had compliments galore." Yet one customer expressed annoyance that certain shades ran out quicker than others, noting: "Absolutely love the eyeshadow palette but my only criticism is, the palest colour, which is used the most, runs out far faster than the rest. I do wish there were slot-in refills of the colours, which would be wonderful but would also help the environment." Regarding the refillable compacts, buyer Anne remarked: "A beautiful high quality compact. Love that it's refillable. Great addition to the range. Will look great when using. Can highly recommend." Similarly, Sandra, commented: "The refillable compacts are very classy looking and take a magnetic refill. Such a great idea." For alternative options, other sought-after neutral eyeshadow palettes include Urban Decay's Naked Basics 2 Palette, available on sale for £19.20, usually £24 at LookFantastic. This compact yet indispensable eyeshadow collection has six full-sized matte shades in cooler, neutral, taupe-inspired hues perfect for creating adaptable eye looks. Natasha Denona's Mini Eye Sculpt Palette (£24), has five skin-toned hues in a matte finish. It's designed to contour and enhance, with Natasha Denona's formulations celebrated for their pigment. For individuals still struggling with eyeshadow longevity, investing in an eye primer might prove beneficial for prepping the delicate eye area. Look Fabulous Forever's Smooth Out Eye Prime works to establish a flawlessly even, neutral canvas that prevents eyeshadow from settling into creases whilst maintaining vibrant colours throughout the day. Discussing her motivation behind creating the brand, founder Tricia explained: "I launched Look Fabulous Forever at the age of 65 because I felt largely invisible to the traditional beauty industry. I was also finding it increasingly difficult to find makeup that really worked on my older skin and have come to this business as a consumer - all our products are formulated so they perform brilliantly on older skin. "As we get older, our makeup needs change - from finding a foundation which gives enough coverage without looking heavy to eye makeup which stays put and doesn't end up looking messy. As well as great products, we share tips about the makeup to choose and how to apply it."

Oasis superfan gets Murrayfield ticket tattoo ahead of Edinburgh dates

'Hey, if they break up before then, it'll be a hilarious story to tell." An Oasis superfan is feeling supersonic after tattooing her Murrayfield ticket on her arm ahead of the band's upcoming Edinburgh shows. ‌ Shannon Rattray, 29, was born at the height of Oasis mania in 1995 and has longed to see the Britpop legends her entire life. ‌ Her parents, Sharon, 51, and Donald, 59, also loved the band, but never got to experience the Gallagher brothers in concert because they were too busy bringing up Shannon and her siblings. ‌ When Oasis broke up in 2009, the family, from Midlothian, thought they'd would never get the chance to see them live. But when the group announced their reunion tour, Shannon managed to bag four tickets for August 12 in the capital. ‌ She will go to the gig with her mum and dad and boyfriend, Kai, also 29. The mum -of-two told the Record: 'I have waited for this moment for nearly 30 years so I wanted something to mark it that will last forever. I might be slightly mad for doing it, but this concert means the absolute world to me. "I was brought up listening to Oasis and my mum and dad never got round to seeing them because they were raising me and my siblings. ‌ "When we saw the announcement that they were coming back, I sat in the queue for hours for tickets. "When I got them, I was crying and jumping about with excitement. It was such a special moment being able to call my mum and tell her that her dream of seeing Oasis live was coming true! "I cried down the phone to her. ‌ 'As a family have spoken about how we've wanted Oasis to get back together so many times and I have spent countless occasions belting out their songs with my parents. 'The fact that we never thought this would happen again makes it even more special." ‌ Shannon decided to cement her special memory in ink on July 23. She continued: "It was by pure chance that the tattoo artist that I had contacted had space before the gig, so I thought know you what I am just going to go for it. "Some might say I am absolutely ridiculous for getting it done, especially given their track record of falling out, but hey, if they break up before the gig it will be a hilarious story to tell."
