'My stepmum said she had a right to name my baby so I said she'll never meet my daughter'

Daily Record3 days ago
The mum-to-be reacted furiously when her 'insecure' stepmum overstepped the mark.
For all expectant parents, picking a name for your baby is one of the biggest decisions you have to make. It is a hard task and may lead to disagreements, but it can also bring so much joy.

It is something that couples will decide on together and it is the name they - and everyone else - will use for their precious boy or girl for the rest of their life.

With this in mind, it's understandable that parents-to-be can get quite defensive if other people poke their noses in or share unsolicited opinions on it.

And that's what happened to one pregnant woman who was so irate at her stepmum "overstepping" that she banned the woman from ever seeing her child when she was born.
Posting about the situation on Reddit, the mum-to-be revealed she'd never had a great relationship with her stepmother. She and her husband met with her dad and his wife over brunch and she tried to be civil.
But when the older woman tried to pick her daughter's name, claiming she had that "right", the pregnant stepdaughter was furious, The Mirror reports.

In her post on the online forum, she explained: "My stepmum and I never got along. She always pushed me, she wanted me to call her mum and then got mad when I didn't.
"She went through my text messages, she tried to take stuff that I paid for away, and she tried to make me babysit her kids multiple times, even on my prom night.

"My dad and I still talk and he wanted to meet for brunch, so I said yes, unaware that he was bringing her. When they came, we talked for a bit casually with my husband there too, until we got onto the topic of my pregnancy.
"She asked me all kinds of questions and then she got to names, and she told me that I was going to name the baby Amy, which is her daughter's name.

"I politely said no and said we already had a few names in mind. She started asking why I wasn't allowing her to name her grandchild and she should get that right, I told her that it's our right."
At this point, the conversation went south. The pregnant woman continued: "She kept saying that I was taking away her right as a grandparent and that I've always been such a b***h to her for no reason. She said she knew that I never accepted her as my mother from the beginning but said I'm a bad parent if I'm going to project that onto my kid."
The dig at her future parenting skills was a step too far for the mum-to-be. She told her stepmum that she wouldn't be allowed to see her daughter once she was born.

She said: "I stopped everything and told her she's not allowed around my kid. She kept pushing it saying that she always knew I was a brat but to be this bitter to someone who only helped her is absurd.

"I said that she can think that all she wants but I'm going to be naming our child whatever we decide. Then she decided to try to hit close to home saying that I was going to be a horrible mother and I keep adding to how much of a self-centered person I am by taking away her bonding with her grandchild.

"That hit me hard, but I told her she's not going to be seeing my child ever when she's born since she wanted to push her luck. Before I could say more my husband grabbed our stuff and we left."
Reddit users flooded the mum-to-be with support on her post, blasting the stepmother for her behaviour and attitude. One person wrote: "Your dad's partner is way overstepping. I don't understand why your dad lets her continue acting like that."
Another commented: "You're 100 per cent in the right. Your stepmum is an insecure a**hole who only cares about herself. The fact that your dad agrees with her and did not defend you shows exactly how he feels too."

Tamzin Outhwaite reveals her eldest child is transgender and admits she regrets her reaction

EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite shares her two kids, Flo, 17 and Marine, 12, with ex-husband Tom Ellis. Tamzin Outhwaite has announced that her eldest child is transgender. The EastEnders star confessed she was 'distressed' when Flo first came out seven years ago, but now has no problem in saying she has a son and a daughter rather than two daughters. ‌ The 54-year-old soap star, who played Mel Owen in the BBC soap, said she wishes she could go back and change her initial reaction to the news. Tamzin said she found things difficult at first and she and Flo both went to family therapy to help work through it. ‌ She said: "The way I reacted at the very beginning I would love to change because I think until you're going through it yourself with your child it's very difficult to judge other people or to judge a situation because you don't expect that to happen to you or your child. ‌ "What I did initially, I was like 'don't be ridiculous', I didn't say don't be ridiculous but my mind went to 'that's ludicrous' and working back from that to talking through it" Outhwaite shares her two kids, Flo, 17, and Marnie, 12, with fellow actor Tom Ellis who she divorced in 2014, the Mirror reports. ‌ Speaking on the Parenting Hell podcast, she said: "I've got two kids and I did have two daughters and now I have a son and a daughter and that's quite easy for me to to say now but it wasn't maybe six or seven years ago. "We live in a very happy household now, full of jokes, and it's my favourite place to be at home. "You know they say that as a mum, probably as a parent, that you're only ever as happy and your unhappiest child and so with that in mind we have had some pretty unhappy years. ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "Now we're in a really wonderful place as a family, Flo is in a wonderful place as a brilliant actor, singer, writer, director in his sixth form at school, and Marnie is thriving. "So instead of just trying to get through difficult times we are now all thriving and the relief and joy is very tangible." ‌ She continued: "It was about when Flo was about 10 or 11 and the maddest thing is, I suppose, is that it's not the most interesting thing about him. "He's an incredible, incredibly funny, intelligent boy and I'm watching him grow into a wonderful human who's very talented and to see him thriving is just nothing but relief and joy for me really because there was some dark times." "Fab bit of family therapy, therapy on Flo's side so Flo was doing therapy as well. Speaking to other people and realising you weren't alone was a really, really helpful thing... ‌ "I became almost like a padded cell around Flo, almost going 'it's okay whatever you want, you want to do this, you want to do that, it's all okay', because I think if you push back on a kid they're going to want to do the opposite of what their parent says so I made everything a possibility. "I didn't say you can't be that but it was a very distressing time." ‌ Tamzin also explained that whilst her six year old understood the change very quickly, she was worried about the 'wrath' of her father who is now also fully supportive. She said: "Marnie has been the most insightful about all of it because it's constantly, from pretty much day one when Marnie was six years old has said 'this is my brother Flo'. "Flo has many nicknames at school, all sorts of different things, all of the kids are so accepting of everything but I think they're much more understanding. "Whereas obviously there was a time, my dad's brilliant now and on board, but there was a time where I didn't want Flo to have the wrath of what my dad had to say about the whole thing."

Scots dad scoops £1million lottery win with plans to build ultimate 'man cave'

The former lorry driver is now a millionaire and is ticking off items on his wish list. A Scots dad has built his dream 'man cave' after scooping a massive £1million lottery win. ‌ Ally Gilmour, a former lorry driver from Carluke, Lanarkshire recently gave up his long-term career due to his ill health, matched five main numbers and the Bonus Ball - making him a millionaire. ‌ The 57-year-old has played the game since The National Lottery launched over 30 years ago and he couldn't wait to tell his family the life changing news. ‌ His big win has allowed him to tick off various items on his wish list- including a new garden cabin which he dubbed his 'man cave'. He said, 'I've been wanting somewhere to socialise in the garden for years – it's all a part of Scottish culture to have your friends come for a beer or two in the garden, for a laugh and some TV.' ‌ Ally's grand plans for the 'man cave' would give some local pubs a run for their money. He plans to completely kit it out with a darts board, pool table, TV, games machine, and a small bar to enjoy. After a chaotic few months, he is looking forward to having somewhere to relax and spend time with his family. Ally's fortune changed late on Saturday night as he headed to bed, but sleep quickly became the last thing on his mind. ‌ He said: 'When I checked my account and saw that the numbers matched up, I just sat there staring at it. It's safe to say I couldn't sleep after that.' Ally called his daughter Siobhan at 6am to ask her to come round and help him confirm it with The National Lottery. Thankfully, Siobhan was in a café picking up some breakfast and asked Ally if he wanted anything. He jokingly requested, 'A roll with a square sausage - and some caviar. Don't you know I'm a millionaire?!' Once the win was confirmed, Ally couldn't contain his excitement. He said: 'I went out into the garden and shouted, 'I've won the lottery!' at the top of my lungs. I wanted the whole world to know. It was an incredible feeling' ‌ Ally, who had been working as a long-distance HGV driver, recently stepped away from his job due to health problems. He said: 'It was tough coming to terms with not being able to work anymore. This win takes all that pressure away. I can finally focus on my health without the worry.' Ally's wife, Anne,57, and their daughter and grandson are also set to benefit from the life-changing prize. He said: 'It's not just about me - it's for the whole family. We've had a tough time recently and this gives us all an exciting fresh start.' While the couple have no plans for wild spending sprees, they have allowed themselves a few well-deserved luxuries including two brand-new matching Volkswagens.
