PM to launch mega ‘Aravalli Green Wall project' on June 5
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the project by planting a Banyan sapling under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park in the national capital, a step to prevent desertification and land degradation caused by global warming.
On the occasion, the Prime Minister will also flag off 200 electric buses under Delhi Government's sustainable transport initiative, promoting clean urban mobility and symbolizing the nation's collective responsibility towards ecological balance, said a statement here.
Aiming to create a 400 km long and 5 km wide green corridor covering states of Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Delhi, India had introduced the Aravalli Green Wall project at the 16th Conference of Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in Riyadh in 2019. The Union Environment Ministry had released the project's action plan in March.
The project envisages boostING biodiversity of the Aravalli Hill Region and is a major initiative to spread green cover in the 5 km buffer area around the Range in 29 districts of the four states, according to the statement.
Besides, reforestation and afforestation and rejuvenation of water bodies, the project aims to improve the soil fertility, water availability and climate resilience of the region. The project will also benefit the local communities by providing them with employment and income generation opportunities.
In the initial phase, 75 water bodies will be rejuvenated, starting with five waterbodies each in every district of Aravalli landscape, said an official from the Ministry.
The plan is inspired by Africa's 'Great Green Wall' project, running from Senegal (West) to Djibouti (East), which came into effect in 2007.
Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign encourages people to plant a tree as a symbol of love, respect, and honour for their mothers, while also pledging to protect trees and the Earth. UNI AJ SSP

Accra/New Delhi, July 3 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi today stressed the importance of the 'Global South' and said progress cannot come without giving voice to the Global South. Addressing the Parliament of Ghana, the PM said the global order created after World War II was changing fast and the revolution in technology, the rise of the Global South and the shifting demographics were contributing to its pace and scale. "Progress cannot come without giving voice to the 'Global South'. We need more than slogans. We need action. That is why, during India's G20 Presidency, we worked with the vision - One Earth, One Family, One Future.'' The 'Global South' is a term used to broadly describe countries with lower levels of economic development, often located in the Southern Hemisphere, primarily in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It's a way to categorise nations based on socio-economic and political characteristics rather than solely geographical location. The term is often used in contrast to the "Global North", which typically includes wealthier, more industrialized nations. The Prime Minister regretted that challenges like colonial rule that humanity had faced in the earlier centuries, still persisted in different forms. He said the world is facing new and complex crises like terrorism, climate change pandemics and cybersecurity and institutions created in the last century were struggling to respond. "The changing circumstances demand credible and effective reforms in global governance.'' "We put emphasis on Africa's rightful place at the global high table. CM launches 27 integratedclusters across 26 districts
Lucknow: Calling expressways the backbone of Uttar Pradesh's economy, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday inaugurated 27 Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Clusters (IMLCs) across 26 districts. "Through these clusters, the state aims to harness the power of expressways. Spread over more than 13,240 acres on both sides of five expressways, these clusters will serve as a major catalyst in UP's economic journey," the CM said. He also noted that all six nodes of the Defence Corridor are being developed along the expressways. Describing the initiative as a step towards realising Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of making Uttar Pradesh the hub of India's industrial development, the CM added, "Over the past eight years, the double-engine govt has established Uttar Pradesh as the 'Expressway State', making it the first choice for investors." The CM said that the clusters would represent a new Uttar Pradesh for a New India. "Security, land banks, and necessary infrastructure are the primary prerequisites for investment, and UP has made remarkable progress in all these areas," he said. Referring to the recent inauguration of the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, the CM said he had travelled on it himself and found it both fast and comfortable. "Once considered backward and avoided by investors, UP is now realising a big dream through the development of IMLCs," he said. He also emphasised the need to develop industries and factories both horizontally and vertically to maximise space utilisation. The CM added that the IMLC model would become a benchmark for the rest of the country, enhancing global investment and job creation. He also instructed officials to ensure sufficient manpower and investor-friendly execution of the IMLC clusters. During the event, chief secretary Manoj Kumar Singh briefed the CM about the progress of ongoing and upcoming expressway projects across Uttar Pradesh. While reviewing the Meerut-Haridwar Expressway, the CM suggested aligning the route to connect with Shukteerth, a significant cultural site. He also emphasized that expressway construction should minimize damage to forest areas. Officials said that under the IMLC initiative, investors will receive benefits such as competitive land pricing, specialised logistics services, seamless road, rail, and air connectivity, dedicated basic infrastructure, a transparent land allocation process, a favourable industrial environment, and ready labour availability. Investors will also have access to tailor-made land allocations, bulk land allotments at designated nodes, and the opportunity to develop industrial parks under the PPP model. Cabinet minister Nand Gopal Gupta 'Nandi' and minister of state Jaswant Singh Saini and several senior officials were also present at the event. CM reviews under-construction expressways Lucknow: The Chief Minister also reviewed the progress of both operational and under-construction expressways in the state. He was informed that defence nodes are being developed across a total of 5,184 acres in six districts. "Of this, 5,017 acres have already been acquired by the authority, while 167 acres remain to be acquired. The districts where these defence nodes are being developed include Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Kanpur, Aligarh, Lucknow, and Agra. Companies such as BrahMos, Bharat Dynamics, Adani Defence and Aerospace, Modern Material Science Private Limited, Deep Explo, Aerolloy Technology, and Tata Technologies are already operational in these areas," officials said.
