Selangor police wrap up questioning of actor-singer over alleged sexual assault of 17-year-old girl, case submitted to prosecutors
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said investigations revealed that the accused had known the girl for some time.
'The suspect and the victim, who is a student, have been acquainted for the past one or two months. They had been in contact before, and this was the first time the suspect had taken her to a hotel,' he told reporters here today.
Hussein said the suspect was released on police bail after his statement was recorded.
The investigation papers would be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action when completed, he added

Motoring ‘influencer' missing after car plunges into river
Firefighters who responded to an emergency call this afternoon found the car had plunged 2m into Sungai Tui. (Facebook pic) MUAR : A motoring influencer on social media, Tengku Nizaruddin Zainudin, 38, better known as Ija Nizaruddin, was reported missing after his Perodua Axia was found submerged in a river near Pagoh this evening. The Pagoh fire station said firefighters responding to an emergency call at about 3.20pm found the car had plunged about 2m into Sungai Tui. There was no sign of the driver. Tengku Nizaruddin's younger brother, Tengku Abdul Aziz, 30, said they last met at about 2pm yesterday after travelling separately from Johor Bahru to Muar. 'We left Johor Bahru in separate vehicles. I went to a different place, while my brother told me he wanted to go to his friend's workshop in Parit Jawa. 'My family last heard from him at around 4pm, but after that, they couldn't reach him,' he said. He said the workshop owner told him and his sister-in-law that his brother never showed up. 'At first, we thought he was joking as usual, but started to get worried when we couldn't reach him and the vehicle was found not far from where we last met,' he said. Muar police said a search is under way.

Putrajaya PKR files report against Harakah over anti-Anwar rally

PUTRAJAYA : Putrajaya PKR has lodged a police report against PAS organ Harakah Daily over an allegedly seditious article that promotes a protest against Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim. At a press conference outside the district police headquarters, the division's deputy chief Shariff Jeev claimed the article contained seditious content that would incite Malaysians. 'We urge the police to investigate the article and the planned protests under Section 124B of the Penal Code (for committing an activity detrimental to parliamentary democracy) or any appropriate law,' he said. When asked if he wanted the authorities to prevent the rally from going ahead, he said it should be allowed to proceed if it was held in an 'appropriate way'. Shariff nonetheless claimed that the protest planned for July 26 could become a threat to the country's peaceful way of life and its parliamentary democracy. 'So far, 52 police reports have been lodged throughout the country, including in Sabah and Sarawak. Today alone six reports were filed', he added. Putrajaya PKR information chief Hafiz Osman called for the protest to be held somewhere else instead of Dataran Merdeka to prevent it from 'spiralling out of control'. 'We do not want the protesters to provoke others. We hope the police will be able to cordon off the area.' The rally organised by Perikatan Nasional aims to push for Anwar's resignation as prime minister. Last week, over 300 rallied in Shah Alam for the same cause. The smaller rally was held to promote the Dataran Merdeka protest.

Teen hands over mother's jewellery worth RM140,000 to scammers
JERTIH: A teenager has handed over her mother's jewellery worth RM140,000 to an unknown individual after being deceived by a phone scam syndicate. Besut deputy police chief Dep Supt Md Sani Md Salleh said the 18-year-old, who is awaiting admission to an institution of higher learning (IPT), lodged a police report on Saturday (July 12) claiming she had been duped. "The teen received phone calls from three individuals posing as representatives from the e-wallet company and a police officer from Perak on July 1. "They claimed that her particulars had been misused and she was implicated in fraud and money laundering cases," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 15). Md Sani said the victim then handed over her mother's jewellery to an unknown female suspect in a supermarket in Jertih town the next day (July 2). He said the suspect promised to return the jewellery the same day but later told the teenager that the jewellery had been kept by the Police forensics unit for further investigation. "The teenager was then told that she would have to pay RM28,000 to retrieve the jewellery. The teenager then lodged a police report upon realising she had been duped," he said. Following that, police arrested a 37-year-old woman in Kuala Besut on Monday (July 14) and remanded her for four days until Friday to assist in investigations under Section 420 of the Penal Code. – Bernama
