Dingdong Dantes and Charo Santos-Concio weigh in on state of Philippine film industry

GMA Network16-05-2025

Dingdong Dantes and Charo Santos-Concio weighed in on the current state of local cinema, highlighting significant challenges alongside new opportunities presented by the digital era.
In Friday's 'Fast Talk with Boy Abunda,' Dingdong acknowledged that while these challenges are present, they are not unlike those faced by developed countries.
'Sa kabila ng challenges, naniniwala ako na marami ring mga opportunities,' he said.
The Kapuso Primetime King specifically pointed to the advent of the digital age and digital era, where everything is online, as a transformative factor.
'Suddenly we become global actors and actresses. 'Yung mga kuwento natin, naikukuwento na natin sa ibang bansa na hindi natin nagagawa dati,' he said.
Charo continued, saying that the industry is 'very challenged.'
''Yun na nga, with the shift to the digital platform, even the theatrical screens, 'no? The malls now are cutting back on the number of theaters. Admission prices have gone up. We're one of the most heavily taxed industry,' she said.
Charo hoped that the government will recognize the entertainment industry as a 'real industry.'
'We're not here just to entertain people, you know? We're here to make a living and to make a statement for the great artists, the great Filipino artists, 'di ba? Kasi magagaling ang creatives natin, ang mga artista natin, and I think we deserve that recognition from government,' she said.
She expressed happiness that industry leaders such as the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the Film Academy of the Philippines, and Dingdong, in his capacity as president of Aktor PH (League of Filipino Actors), are active and deeply immersed in the current conditions.
'And with small steps naman, maraming na-a-address. But we really have to get together as an industry. We have to unite. We have to be one. We have to continue to support each other,' she said.
Dingdong and Charo recently visited Bahay ni Kuya as the latest house guests in "Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition."
While inside, they hosted a game show and also gave the "PBB" housemates some words of wisdom.
Dingdong and Charo are starring in the upcoming film, 'Only We Know,' which was presented to them seven years ago.
The film also marks Charo's first time doing a romance film.
'Sabi ko nga kay Dong in some of our conversations, 'This is also a risk, but maybe more of a risk for you.' Kaya tinanong ko siya, 'Sigurado ka? Gagawin mo talaga 'to?'' Charo said.
She also clarified that they are not a love team.
'We're two professionals who got together and we breathed life into this beautiful narrative. I'm proud to say that we were able to create a love team in Betty and Ryan,' she said.
'Only We Know' premieres in cinemas on June 11.

5 ways Lee Jun Hyuk disarmed his Filipino fans at his 'Let Me In' fan meeting in Manila

Lee Jun Hyuk held his first fan meeting, 'Let Me In' in Manila this weekend and he definitely did not disappoint his fans. From his "City Hunter" days to his recent hit drama "Love Scout," this fan meeting was a truly rewarding experience for his fans. 1. Lee Jun Hyuk connected with his Filipino fans Fans were thrilled when he greeted them with 'Kumusta po kayo? Ako si Lee Jun Hyuk,' upon entering the stage. According to the South Korean Oppa, this is his second time visiting the Philippines. He was first in the country for the 2023 Asia Artist Awards. When asked if he had a chance to see anything beautiful upon arriving here in the country, Lee Jun Hyuk said while looking at the fans, 'Yes. I guess this is the most beautiful view that I've seen right now. Looking at you guys, I feel so much happy and I think this is the most beautiful view ever.' 2. Lee Jun Hyuk gave the ultimate fan service Lee Jun Hyuk was not shy about giving away handshakes and hugs while re-enacting scenes from "Love Scout," where he played the perfect secretary Yoo Eunho to CEO Kang Ji Yoon (Han Ji Min). In one of the re-enactments, Lee Jun Hyuk did not only shield the fan from the sun (or harsh light in the venue) but even playfully carried her, drawing screams of excitement from the crowd. 3. He was playful with the fans Of course there were games and Lee Jun Hyuk made sure fans would win! When they failed the mini chair stacking game on the first try, he made sure that the time limit will be extended to one minute! During the pingpong ball game, he signed some of the balls and threw them towards the enthusiastic fans. How can you not love him? 4. Lee Jun Hyuk was an angel Where other actors would've shied away due to strict management rules, Lee Jun Hyuk gave in to the request of several fans to have a selca (selfie) with him. During the segment where Lee Jun Hyuk read messages from his fans, he called on those who requested for a selfie onstage and gamely posed with them, giving his fans a memory of a lifetime. 5. Lee Jun Hyuk may be a star but he's still humble There's no denying that Lee Jun Hyuk is very good looking and has gained a lot of accolades but during the fan meeting, there are times when he appeared shy when receiving praises, saying 'I really don't know how to handle these compliments. My mom has to see this.' He was also humble when he was praised for being able to do scenes in one take because he can memorize everything. Lee Jun Hyuk's Let Me In fan meeting will make its next stops in Taipei, Taiwan on July 6, and in Seoul, South Korea on July 12. — LA, GMA Integrated News

Michelle Dee on coming out as bisexual: 'Akala ko hindi ko 'yun magagawa'

Michelle Dee opened up about her coming out journey during her short speech at the LOV3LABAN 2025 pride event at the University of the Philippines Diliman. After performing her single "Reyna," which she dedicated to the LGBT+ community, the Kapuso beauty queen shared a part of her coming out story. "Bago ako nag-out two years ago, akala ko hindi ko 'yun magagawa," she said in her speech. "And it's when I came out that I found a new support system that doesn't judge, that understands," she added. Expressing her love for the LGBT+ community, Michelle said "Look at us now, strength in numbers. We're here together, celebrating the community we love." In the same pride event, Michelle and Rhian Ramos recreated their intense fight scene in "Sang'gre" as a special treat to the attendees. In April, she became one of the inspirations for Klarisse De Guzman to also come out on "Pinoy Big Brother: Celebrity Collab Edition." According to Klarisse, it was when she saw Michelle inside the house that she knew it was the right time to come out.
