France denounces US-European Union trade deal, French PM calls it..., Emmanuel Macron...
New Delhi: France has criticized Sunday's, July 28 trade deal between US President Donald Trump and European Union (EU) President Ursula von der Leyen. French Prime Minister François Bayrou called it a dark day for the EU. What did France say over US-EU trade deal?
François Bayrou said the EU had bowed to President Trump's increasing tariff pressure. He wrote on X: 'It is sad when a coalition of independent countries, formed to protect their common values and interests, buckles under pressure.'
At the same time, French Minister of European Affairs Benjamin Haddad said that this situation is not good and the EU should take countermeasures. French Trade Minister Laurent Saint-Martin said, 'Trump only understands the language of power. If we should have taken countermeasures earlier, the deal might have been better.'
However, French President Emmanuel Macron has remained silent on the matter. What is the response of Italy and Germany?
German Chancellor Friedrich Mertz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni welcomed the agreement. European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic called it a 'big step' as it averted a trade war between the USA and Europe.
Under the agreement, most goods going from Europe to the US will face a 15% tariff, three times the current 4.8%. However, the 30% tariff was avoided after Trump's threat of August 1. How much of Europe's goods will face 15% tariff?
According to the details of the agreement, 70% of goods from Europe will be subject to 15% tariff. This includes cars, medicines and electronics. However, some agricultural products such as aircraft parts, some chemicals, semiconductor equipment and cork will not be subject to tariffs. There will be no tariff on drugs yet, and if there is one in the future, it will not be more than 15%.
The EU will buy energy worth 750 billion dollars or about 64 lakh crore rupees from America in the next three years. Along with this, the EU will invest 600 billion dollars i.e. 51 lakh crore rupees in America.

India central bank delivers maturing $5 billion dollar-rupee swap, bankers say
(Corrects typographical error in media packaging code, no changes to text) MUMBAI, Aug 4 (Reuters) - The Reserve Bank of India will deliver a $5 billion dollar-rupee swap maturing on Monday, with surplus rupee liquidity in the banking system leaving little need for a rollover, four bankers said. Delivering the swap without a rollover implies the RBI is selling dollars and absorbing rupees from the banking system — a move unlikely to disrupt money markets, with rupee liquidity currently in surplus, bankers said, requesting anonymity since they are not authorized to speak to the media. The $5 billion buy-sell dollar/rupee six-month swap, which matures on Monday, was part of a series of measures that the central bank had taken to boost rupee liquidity from late January to May. "The purpose of the swap was to inject INR liquidity," a senior treasury official at a state-run lender said. At the time of initiating the swap in January, the central bank bought dollars, injecting rupees into the banking system. "Now with the system running a surplus, settling it won't cause any disruption — and that provides RBI room to deliver it." India's banking system liquidity surplus has risen to over 3.60 trillion Indian rupees ($41.2 billion) — the highest in four weeks and equivalent to around 1.5% of total deposits. RBI head Sanjay Malhotra had indicated in April that the central bank is looking at keeping surplus levels around 1% of deposits. "The central bank will not roll over the swap," said VRC Reddy, treasury head at Karur Vysya Bank, "At this juncture, rupee liquidity is very comfortable, and it makes sense for the central bank to deliver the dollars." Further, a swap trader at a mid-sized private sector bank said he had not seen or heard of any large-sized buy/sell swaps being conducted through state-run banks — a development that would typically accompany a rollover by the RBI. Dollar-rupee near-term swaps showed no signs of disruption from the maturity of the RBI's swap. The cash-tomorrow swap was quoted at 0.34/0.35 paisa, implying an annualised yield of around 5.8% — only marginally above the interbank call rate. Adani Group denies any collaboration reports with BYD and Beijing Welion New Energy Technology
Adani Group on Monday strongly refuted recent media reports suggesting any form of collaboration with Chinese companies BYD or Beijing WeLion New Energy Technology for battery manufacturing or clean energy ventures in India. In an official filing to the stock exchanges, Adani Enterprises Ltd — the flagship entity of the conglomerate — dismissed the report published by Bloomberg on August 4, 2025, which claimed that the group was exploring strategic partnerships with the two Chinese firms. 'No collaboration being explored,' says Adani Group 'We categorically deny Bloomberg's report suggesting a tie-up between the Adani Group and Chinese companies BYD and Beijing Welion New Energy Technology. This report is baseless, inaccurate and misleading,' the company said in its statement. The group clarified that it is not exploring any form of collaboration with BYD for battery manufacturing in India, nor is it in discussions with Beijing WeLion for any kind of partnership. Earlier in the day, Bloomberg reported that the Adani Group was in discussions with Chinese electric vehicle (EV) giant BYD to establish a battery manufacturing partnership in India. The potential tie-up, according to the report, was seen as part of Adani's broader strategy to expand into clean energy and lithium-ion cell production. As per the Bloomberg article, Gautam Adani was said to be personally steering the negotiations with BYD, with meetings reportedly taking place as recently as last week. The proposed collaboration aimed to support large-scale manufacturing of lithium-ion batteries, which are vital for both electric mobility and stationary energy storage systems. The report highlighted that Adani's existing dominance in solar power generation, combined with BYD's leadership in battery technology and its position as the world's largest EV seller, made them natural allies in the clean energy space. Bloomberg also pointed out that Chinese firms continue to lead in affordable and advanced rechargeable battery technology, a domain considered crucial for achieving Adani's ambitious green energy goals. Furthermore, the report suggested that these talks were still at an early stage and might not materialize. It also claimed that Adani was exploring similar partnerships with other Chinese renewable energy firms, including Beijing WeLion New Energy Technology, while keeping discussions open with European and South Korean battery manufacturers. However, Chinese players were reportedly offering the most attractive value-for-money proposition. While denying these alleged collaborations, the group reiterated its commitment to India's energy transition through its ongoing clean energy initiatives. Adani Group has built a substantial clean energy portfolio across solar, wind, and green hydrogen verticals. The group is currently expanding its solar module manufacturing capacity to 10 gigawatts (GW) per annum and plans to nearly double its wind turbine production capacity to 5 GW per annum. It is also actively pursuing the development of a facility for manufacturing electrolysers, a critical component used in green hydrogen production.
