Former four-star Mississippi State guard Kanye Clary to enter transfer portal

Yahoo06-04-2025
Kanye Clary will be one-and-done in Starkville. The Mississippi State point guard will be entering the transfer portal, per an announcement. He made his intentions known prior to the window opening next week.
Clary came to MSU from Penn State and was a former four-star recruit out of Massanutten Military Academy (Virginia Beach, VA). He initially signed with the Nittany Lions as saw limited time as a true freshman. Bulldogs coach Chris Jans saw him as an option to run the offense, but fell short of expectations after seven games.

At that point, Clary was sidelined due to injury and missed the rest of the season. Many expected he would return for his senior season but that's not the case. He contributed 6.3 points per game during his time with MSU.
At 6-foot and 180 pounds, Clary posted his best year as a sophomore, averaging 16.7 points, which was eighth-best in the Big Ten. He started 20 games before a pair of injuries ended the season in February.
The NCAA transfer portal for basketball opens up on March 24 this year and runs through April 22. The window was moved back one week to allow players participating in March Madness.

Georgia transfer projected as first-round NFL draft pick

Penn State Nittany Lions cornerback A.J. Harris has been projected as a first-round pick in the 2026 NFL draft in ESPN's latest mock draft. Harris, who transferred to Penn State after his freshman season in 2023 with the Georgia Bulldogs, is a former five-star recruit. Matt Miller predicts that Harris will land with the Washington Commanders with the No. 25 pick in the draft. Harris is coming off a great sophomore season with Penn State. He helped the Nittany Lions advance to the semifinals of the College Football Playoff and recorded 48 tackles, one interception and five pass deflections. Harris had a much larger role at Penn State than he did in 2023 with Georgia (eight tackles). The 6-foot-1, 190-pound cornerback is a rising junior and has what it takes to play at the next level. Harris made a leap after his freshman season and should show significant improvement in his second year as the starter at Penn State. What ESPN said about A.J. Harris "Harris has shown ball-hawking skills and loves to press and jam receivers," said Miller. "He's still a bit green, having started only one season, but last season's tape -- along with Penn State's track record in developing defenders -- makes Harris one of the most promising corners in the country." Losing Harris via the transfer portal hurt for Georgia. There's no doubt he's one of Georgia's most painful transfer exits in recent memory along with quarterback Carson Beck and outside linebacker Damon Wilson after the 2024 season. Hugh Freeze Makes Concerning Admission on Auburn's NIL Budget

Hugh Freeze Makes Concerning Admission on Auburn's NIL Budget originally appeared on Athlon Sports. It has not been a good week to be an Auburn Tigers fan. On Wednesday, five-star recruits Earnest Rankins and Cederian Morgan committed to the Florida State Seminoles and the Alabama Crimson Tide, respectively, with each prospect having Auburn on their shortlist heading into the week. Advertisement Auburn is not only struggling to land commitments, but they are also failing to keep those who had previously pledged their allegiance to The Plains. With 2026 four-stars Denarius Gray and Shadarius Toodle denouncing their commitments from Auburn in the past week, the Tigers are now ranked 89th regarding the 2026 recruiting class, per 247Sports. Auburn Tigers head coach Hugh Freeze.© Jake Crandall/ Advertiser / USA TODAY NETWORK Auburn houses just six hard commits, highlighted by four-star edge rusher Hezekiah Harris and four-star quarterback and former Penn State Nittany Lions commit Peyton Falzone. For head coach Hugh Freeze, who finds himself in the crosshairs of fans after the program's latest setbacks, he believes the NIL era is to blame. According to Justin Hokanson of On3, Freeze says Auburn is "really low" on NIL funds compared to other top programs that are in play for their recruits. Advertisement Freeze also emphasized that his staff continues to operate under the rules and guidelines presented by the NCAA and Congress, which he feels other teams may not be as law-abiding. Nevertheless, Freeze has a belief in the program's direction, with a top-ten recruiting class in 2026 not out of the picture. Auburn AD John Cohen hints that August 1 — the first day players can sign NIL deals — as a chance for the Tigers to flip recruits. Texas Longhorns set for imminent 4-star in-state commitment

Mayde Creek (Texas) four-star edge-rusher Kosi Okpala is set to announce his college commitment Thursday at 10 a.m. CT. The 6-foot-2, 230-pound edge-rusher, out of Houston, is down to a final four of Baylor, Miami, Penn State and Texas. Advertisement Okpala is rated the nation's No. 281 overall prospect and No. 27 edge-rusher and accumulated more than 30 scholarship offers during his recruitment. As a junior, he recorded 55 tackles, 17 tackles-for-loss, 5 sacks, 2 force fumbles and 1 fumble recoveries. So, where is he headed? Okpala took official visits to all four of his finalists, but it was the Longhorns that earned his final trip. And it has been Texas that has all the momentum heading into his decision day. 247Sports has a flurry of predictions in - all favoring the Longhorns - while On3 gives Steve Sarkisian's program a 95.9 percent chance of landing Okpala. Advertisement What would Texas be getting? Here's what 247Sports had to say about Okpala as a prospect: "Long-levered two-point edge defender who could stay at the line of scrimmage or move to an off-ball linebacker role. Legitimately 6-foot-2 and around 230 pounds with significant frame potential given a wingspan greater than +7 inches relative to height." "Good functional athlete who's still putting together technical nuance and possesses ample developmental upside. Will need to continue to add mass/strength, especially if living full-time as an edge, but compensates at times with startling pursuit speed that manifests in closing ability and chase-down juice when required." Advertisement "Shows flashes of redirecting twitch at edge and linebacker, whether in pads or elite camp settings. Still, more natural as a forward-oriented player, whether rushing the passer or defending the run. Displays encouraging sudden burst and flexibility considering impressive, muscled-up stature." "Projects as a P4/high-major defensive piece whose ultimate positional home could depend on scheme/staff. Owns physical traits and natural athleticism that could lead to long-term NFL Draft candidacy." Overall, the Texas 2026 recruiting class consists of 15 pledges and is ranked No. 14 nationally. That group is led by Elite 11 Finals MVP and five-star quarterback Dia Bell, Willis (Texas) five-star athlete Jermaine Bishop and elite edge-rusher Richard Wesley.
