In a May 27 letter, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed Ford notified the group of a safety recall relating to a software error that "may cause the rearview camera image to delay, freeze, or not display when the vehicle is in reverse." The safety recall report was submitted on May 9.
Ford also issued a recall over backup camera problems in April, impacting about 289,000 Broncos and pickup models. In April, the company recalled about 120,000 vehicles because of brake fluid leaks and 20,000 for a control module glitch.
Ford is known for vehicles like the F-Series pickup, the best-selling truck line in the U.S. for decades, and the Mustang, introduced in 1964.

Ford recalls more than 200,000 vehicles with software glitch due to crash risk

The Ford Motor Company announced it is recalling over 200,000 vehicles because of a software malfunction that can cause rearview cameras to fail, increasing the risk of a crash and possibly injury. According to a recall notice posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the vehicle manufacturer is recalling 200,061 vehicles, including certain 2018-2022 Transit Connect; 2019-2020 MKZ, Edge, Continental, F-150, Nautilus, and Fusion; 2019-2023 Ranger and Mustang; 2020-2021 EcoSport, Expedition and Navigator; 2020-2022 Escape, F-250 SD and Corsair; 2020-2023 Aviator and Transit; 2020-2024 Explorer; 2021-2024 Bronco Sport; and 2022-2024 Maverick vehicles. The recall says a recently discovered software error could cause rearview cameras to display a blank image or even a frozen image on the display after putting the vehicle into reverse. Ford noted that the blank image from a rearview camera could reduce a driver's view from behind the wheel. If an image continues to be displayed after the vehicle shifts out of reverse, Ford added, the driver may become distracted. Both scenarios increase the risk of crashes, Ford noted. 3 The Ford Motor Company announced it is recalling over 200,000 vehicles because of a software malfunction that can cause rearview cameras to fail. Ford Vs GM: Which Auto Stock is the Better Investment After Revealing Q2 Sales?

With the major domestic automakers releasing their vehicle sales for the second quarter, Ford F and General Motors GM were notable standouts, outperforming Tesla TSLA. While Tesla saw its Q2 vehicle sales fall 13% due to weaker demand for its aging auto fleet and political backlash surrounding Elon Musk, Ford and GM gained ground in both traditional and electric vehicle segments. Considering such, it may be a worthy conversation to discuss which auto stock is the better buy between Ford and GM at the moment. Led by its Maverick and F-Series pickup trucks, Ford's Q2 vehicle sales spiked an industry-leading 14% year over year to 612,095 units sold. This boosted Ford's vehicle sales for the first half of the year (H1) to 1.113 million, a 6% increase from H1 2024. Notably, Q2 pickup sales came to 288,564 units with F-Series and Maverick sales spiking 11% and 26% respectively. As for GM, Q2 vehicle sales rose 7% to 746,588 units sold, driven by its Chevrolet, GMC, Cadillac, and Buick brands. Being GM's fastest growing brand so far this year, Buick saw a 29% uptick in H1 sales, with GM's total H1 vehicle sales up 11% to 1.4 million units. Pinpointing EV expansion, GM gained ground on Tesla and stood out in particular. GM sold 46,280 EV units, spiking 111% from 21,930 in Q2 2024. Reaching an impressive milestone, Chevrolet became the best-selling EV brand during the quarter, led by the Blazer, Equinox, and Silverado models. Underlying Ford's broader EV expansion was growth in hybrids, with the company's 'Electrified' vehicle segment selling 82,886 units, a 6% increase from a year ago. However, pure EVs sold dropped over 30% while hybrid sales soared 23%. Rising +18% in 2025, Ford stock has topped the benchmark S&P 500's return of +5% and the Zacks Automotive-Domestic Market's +2%. Meanwhile, GM is down 1% to lag the broader market, although Tesla has paled in comparison, with declines of more than 20%. Over the last three years, the performance is flipped with GM's gains of more than +60% being roughly on par with the benchmark and edging Tesla's +39%. During this period, Ford stock has been the laggard with gains of +4% but this has slightly edged the Automotive-Domestic Market. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research In terms of value, GM stock certainly checks the box at just 5X forward earnings. Still, Ford's 10X forward earnings multiple offers a slight discount to their industry average of 11X and is well below the S&P 500's 23X. Plus, Ford and GM stock trade at less than 1X forward sales. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Leveling the playing field in terms of value, Ford stock currently has a very enticing annual dividend of 5.29%. That said, GM's yield is at a respectable 1.15%, especially considering most of the Zacks Automotive-Domestic stocks don't offer a payout, including Tesla. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Posting standout Q2 sales among domestic automakers, Ford and General Motors stock both land a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold) at the moment. To that point, these results have started to circumvent concerns that tariffs will have an overly dismal effect on their outlook, with GM and Ford starting to showcase long-term value to shareholders. Tesla sales continue to slide amid competition and backlash against Elon Musk

As Elon Musk scrambles to restore Tesla's reputation and deliver on promises of autonomous driving technology, vehicle sales for the company continued to fall last quarter. Tesla delivered 384,122 vehicles in the quarter through June, down 13% from 443,956 deliveries a year ago. The drop in deliveries is a result of increased competition, plateauing demand for electric vehicles and brand damage triggered by Musk's role in the Trump administration, experts said. Read more: Can Elon Musk get Tesla back on track? Here are four road bumps Though Tesla remains the dominant force in the electric vehicle market, major manufacturers including Ford and Chevy have released their own electric vehicles. Startups such as Irvine-based Rivian have also cut into Tesla's market share. At the same time, demand growth for electric vehicles has flattened as the market becomes saturated, analysts said. In February, Tesla topped the list of brands that lost the most resale value year over year, according to Karl Brauer, an analyst with The price of a used Tesla Model S and Model Y each dropped by about 16% in February from a year earlier, he said. 'It could be that nobody wants to buy them anymore, or that there's a massive influx of them available, or both," Brauer said in an interview in March. Rivian reported lower than expected production numbers on Wednesday, signaling trouble throughout the industry. The company assembled nearly 6,000 trucks, SUVs and delivery vans in the second quarter, falling short of Wall Street estimates of more than 11,300. Though Musk has stepped down from his position in government, helping lead the Department of Government Efficiency, his time in the White House alienated some of his liberal-leaning customers. Tesla drivers who were drawn to the environmental benefits of electric vehicles are growing embarrassed by their cars' association with Musk, The Times has reported. Several celebrities have ditched their Teslas as part of a public stand against the company. The brand damage spread outside the U.S. to Europe, where monthly sales in 32 countries fell nearly 50% in April. Tesla analyst Dan Ives predicted that 5% to 10% of the brand damage sustained during Musk's stint in the White House will be permanent. 'Tesla has become a political symbol around the world and that's not a good thing,' Ives said last month. Read more: Facing skepticism, Elon Musk unveils prototype for driverless robotaxi Tesla is increasingly banking its future on self-driving technology and autonomous taxi operations. Last month, the company began selectively testing self-driving Model Y vehicles in Austin, Texas. According to claims Musk has made, Tesla drivers will one day be able to sleep in their car as it drives them across the country. Tesla's robotaxis will roam city streets, and humanoid robots dubbed Optimus will perform everyday tasks. 'Musk's top priority should be autonomy and robotics,' Ives said. 'With these technologies, I believe Tesla's market cap could reach $2 trillion.' The company is currently valued at $989 billion. Tesla shares have fallen more than 16% this year.
