Everyone Has Same Reaction to Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor

Yahooa day ago
Nicholas Hoult's performance as Lex Luthor in Superman has received significant praise from fans. The newly released DC Universe film marks the English actor's second time playing an iconic character in a comic book superhero movie franchise. He previously portrayed Hank McCoy/Beast in Marvel and 20th Century Fox's X-Men films released between 2011 and 2019.
Nicholas Hoult's performance as Lex Luthor has received immense praise from fans, with some even saying that his iteration of the character is not only the best version but also very comic-accurate.
Fans discussed Hoult's performance as Luthor in a recent Reddit thread. One fan commented, 'He was so petulant it was amazing.'
Another fan added, 'He's the best live-action Lex, and it's not even close.' They even suggested he was the 'first truly comic-accurate Lex.'
One fan stated that he was the best Lex Luthor since Michael Rosenbaum's portrayal of the character in Smallville, in their opinion. Notably, Hoult appeared on an episode of Rosenbaum's podcast Inside of You, released in March 2024. Moreover, during his appearance, the Skins alum revealed that Rosenbaum's Luthor was the first iteration of the character he had seen in any medium. Further, Hoult told Rosenbaum that his take on Luthor was 'the best,' which the Smallville actor was surprised to hear but appreciated nonetheless.
A fan shared that Hoult's Luthor was one of the best performances they had seen in a superhero movie. ' Just completely nailed the character and controlled every scene he was in,' they added.
Nicholas Hoult follows a long line of acclaimed actors who have also taken on the role in live-action. He is preceded by Rosenbaum, Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, Jon Cryer, Jesse Eisenberg, Lyle Talbot, Michael Cudlitz, Titus Welliver, and John Shea.
Superman is currently playing in theaters and holds an 82% fresh score and a 95% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film also stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nathan Fillion, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabela Merced, Sara Sampaio, Skyler Gisondo, and Maria Gabriela de Faría.

Warriors' Buddy Hield explains why Colosseum visit left him 'a little disappointed'

Golden State Warriors guard Buddy Hield was not entertained when he visited the Colosseum in Rome. Hield was at an NBA Summer League game to watch the young players on the Warriors' roster take on the Utah Jazz on Sunday night. The Warriors won the game 103-93, but it was Hield's comments on his trip to Italy that caught the attention of the internet. "I was a little disappointed when I went to the Colosseum because I watched 'Gladiator' and I thought Maximus was a real warrior," he explained on the ESPN broadcast. "So, I'm going into the Colosseum screaming, 'Maximus!' My tour guide said he's not real." "Gladiator" was released in 2000 and won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound and Best Costume Design. It earned more than $465 million at the box office. Hield said he saw "Gladiator 2" with Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington and didn't think it was as good as the first one with Russell Crowe and Joaquin Phoenix. Hield is about to enter his second season with the Warriors. He joined the team before the start of the 2024-25 season as part of a six-team trade with the Philadelphia 76ers. He averaged 11.1 points per game and shot 41.7% from the field. He played in all 82 games, primarily coming off of the bench. Hield was an NBA All-Rookie Team member when he first broke into the league. He started out with the New Orleans Pelicans but was traded to the Sacramento Kings in his rookie year. He's played with the Indiana Pacers as well. Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X, and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.

It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's 'Superman' smashing box office records

"Superman" is breaking down bad guys and box office records. The new movie, which casts David Corenswet as an intrepid and empathetic Clark Kent, has raked in an estimated $122 million, leading weekend box office charts in the United States and Canada. Adding $95 million in international markets for global ticket sales, the film's profits were expected to reach a whopping $217 million through Sunday, July 13, Warner Bros. said. The success for both Warner Bros. and DC Studios, its superhero offshoot, comes at a perilous time for the movie industry. "Superman" is one of only three films to debut with more than $100 million in domestic ticket sales in 2025 as moviegoing lingers below pre-pandemic levels. Why 'Superman' star Nicholas Hoult plays Lex Luthor as 'alpha' cult leader The film's power to put viewers in seats as streaming services cut into box office sales represents an important win for what DC hopes to be the opening act of a successful franchise. Despite a stable of iconic characters including Batman and Wonder Woman, DC has not been able to match the box office power of Walt Disney's Marvel superhero films. But, as Marvel fatigue has crept up among some viewers, DC's fresh take on a beloved classic comes at an opportune time. The film was written and directed by James Gunn, the co-CEO of DC Studios since 2022. That he stuck the landing bodes well for Warner Bros., who brought him on with hopes that he would bring consistent success to its film and TV projects. "I'm incredibly grateful for your enthusiasm and kind words over the past few days," Gunn wrote in a post to Threads over the weekend, responding to the box office success. "We've had a lot of 'Super' in Superman over the years, and I'm happy to have made a movie that focuses on the 'man' part of the equation — a kind person always looking out for those in need. That that resonates so powerfully with so many people across the world is in itself a hopeful testament to the kindness and quality of human beings. Thank you," he wrote. Every Superman actor, ranked (from David Corenswet to Christopher Reeve) His comments echo the sentiments of many reviewers, who remarked immediately not on the sweeping action sequences, CGI or other triumphs of modern movie-making, but on Superman's endearing demeanor. "Gunn fills his 'Superman' with plenty of action, from the title character's flying jaunts – filmed as searing, windswept experiences – to Superman throwing down with a giant kaiju. But what makes the movie, and Supes himself, endearing is how the dude tackles any and all problems with empathy and sincerity," wrote USA TODAY's movie critic, Brian Truitt. Corenswet, who stars opposite "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" actor Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as villain Lex Luthor, has largely been lauded as a believable Man of Steel. As an up-and-coming star, "Superman" represents his biggest role yet, and perhaps already the most memorable: Actors who join franchises as a major superhero often become bound with that character. While the international box office figures have not crested the film's large budget, insiders say much of that is to be expected, given Corenswet's job to embody an American icon. "We always knew that this would be bigger in the U.S. than international," Jeff Goldstein, president of global distribution at Warner Bros., told Reuters. "Superman has always been very American-centric," Goldstein said. How to watch 'Superman' "Superman," starring David Corenswet, is in theaters July 11 and is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association "for violence, action and language."
