'Perfect' neighbour cut off man's penis and ate it with him before killing him

Armin Meiwes, 42, killed and ate Bernd Brandes, 43, after the latter answered his ad for someone who wanted to be killed and consumed - and now the home where it happened has been burnt down
In a horrifying case of cannibalism, a killer devoured his consenting victim over 10 months following a macabre pact between the two.
Armin Meiwes infamously consumed Bernd Brandes' flesh with his consent, in a gruesome saga that lasted almost a year.

Meiwes had placed a ghastly advertisement titled 'Dinner - or your dinner' on a German internet forum, seeking someone willing to be eaten.

Bernd, a 43-year-old engineer, responded to the ad in 2001. Then 42, Meiwes welcomed him to his Rotenburg home in southern Germany.
There, Meiwes gave Bernd a powerful mix of sleeping pills and schnapps to numb him before cutting off his penis, which they both ate, reports the Mirror US.
As reported by the Mirror, what ensued was another horrific act involving Bernd's back meat. In the documentary Docs: Interview With a Cannibal, Meiwes said: "I took out my best dinner service, and fried a piece of rump steak – a piece from his back – made what I call princess potatoes, and sprouts."
Meiwes narrated his initial experience of human flesh as an extraordinary feeling. He said: "The first bite was, of course, very strange. It was a feeling I can't really describe. I'd spent over 40 years longing for it, dreaming about it."
He added: "And now I was getting the feeling that I was actually achieving this perfect inner connection through his flesh. The flesh tastes like pork but stronger."

In a chilling ritual, Meiwes carefully arranged his dining table with candles, ready to indulge in the forbidden feast he had craved his entire life. Following the meal, Bernd, who was still conscious, was placed in a bath while Meiwes recited from a Star Trek book until he committed the final fatal deed, stabbing Bernd in the throat and ending his life.
Meiwes then horrifically butchered his victim and buried the body parts in his garden, saving some of the flesh in his freezer for later consumption over ten months. He was caught in December 2002 and concocted a tale for the police, alleging the meat in his freezer was wild boar.
The former IT worker had a long-standing morbid obsession with cannibalism, a dark fantasy that began in his youth.

In court, he maintained that the engineer "came to me of his own free will to end his life. For him, it was a nice death."
Investigations later revealed that the deceased had an extraordinary wish to be disfigured and had seemingly agreed to Meiwes' gruesome craving as a compromise – fearing that he might be committed if he chose to continue living.
Over a month, the duo exchanged messages daily, meticulously crafting their grim agreement, which culminated in Bernd selling his car, wiping his computer clean, and leaving his possessions to his partner via a handwritten note before he left.
In January 2004, Meiwes was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to eight years and six months behind bars. Following a retrial in May 2006, he was convicted of murder and handed a life sentence, where he remains locked up at the age of 63.
In April 2023, an arson attack razed Meiwes' former residence, the scene of the horrific crime, to the ground.

Ozzy Osbourne's emotional message to fans after final Black Sabbath performance

Ozzy Osbourne performed live for the final time on Saturday night as he joined his Black Sabbath bandmates for the Back to the Beginning farewell concert, and he had one final message for his fans Ozzy Osbourne, the legendary rocker, ended his live performance career with a bang on Saturday evening, sharing a saucy farewell message to fans after his final gig. At 76 years old, the Black Sabbath frontman returned to the stage in Birmingham for the first time in two decades as part of the Back to the Beginning farewell concert. ‌ Devoted fans from all corners of the globe gathered to watch Ozzy perform alongside original bandmates Bill Ward, Tony Iommi, and Geezer Butler, possibly for the last time, although some were visibly moved by Ozzy's need to sit upon a throne during the show due to his health struggles. ‌ Clad in black attire and eye makeup, the prince of darkness, who is battling the effects of Parkinson's disease and has disclosed his inability to walk, sang iconic songs I Don't Know, Mr. Crowley, Suicide Solution, Mama I'm Coming Home, and Crazy Train. Finishing up his iconic stint, Ozzy, visibly touched and seated as he left the stage amidst a backdrop of fireworks, expressed his gratitude with a heartfelt "thank you," sending kisses and lifting his hands skyward to the sound of adulation, reports the Mirror US. Ozzy's send-off was as defiant as his career, with an unapologetically bold banner unfurling at Villa Park—home to football clashes—stating, "Thank you for everything, you guys are f***ing amazing. Birmingham Forever." The night also featured some stellar performances from other music legends, including Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan, Limp Bizkit sensation Fred Durst, and Guns 'n Roses icons Duff McKagan along with Slash. ‌ In a heart-to-heart with Rolling Stone UK before the concert, Sharon Osbourne disclosed that they had been planning the show for two years and confessed to feeling "so emotional" about the experience, calling it "magic". "It was just amazing how everybody said, 'yes, we wanna do it, we're there, we wanna support Sabbath and Ozzy and be there for the charity'. And so it's just been a pleasure dealing with everyone, and they've just been so generous with their time. ‌ "Every single artist has just been fantastic," expressed the former X Factor UK judge. Sharon also conveyed Ozzy's gratitude for his fans' longstanding support. "Ozzy has finally got a chance to thank people for all their years of support and encouragement to him and really giving us the life that we have together. We appreciate everything that these fans have given us around the world," Sharon stated. The announcement of the goodbye gig sent fans into a frenzy when it was released back in February. An Instagram upload from Ozzy earlier this year saw Tom Morello, the music director of the event, declare, "This will be the greatest heavy metal show ever." As the legendary guitarist of Rage Against The Machine, Tom's words carried considerable weight. Accompanying the social media snapshot was Ozzy's reflection: "It's my time to go Back to the for me to give back to the place where I was born. How blessed am I to do it with the help of people whom I love. Birmingham is the true home of metal. Birmingham Forever."

Four-year-old boy dies after in cemetery after gravestone falls on top of him

The tragedy unfolded in Lancashire this afternoon. A four-year-old boy has tragically died in a cemetery after a gravestone fell onto him. Emergency crews rushed to Rawtenstall Cemetery, in Lancashire, at around 1pm today. Sadly, despite medics best efforts the youngster was pronounced dead at the scene. ‌ As the Mirror reports, police have said the boy's death is not being treated as suspicious. They are set to pass a file to the HM Coroner "in due course". ‌ A Lancashire Police spokesperson told the Lancashire Telegraph:"We were called to Rawtenstall Cemetery at 1pm today [July 5] following reports a gravestone had fallen onto a child. "Tragically, and despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the boy sadly died. Our thoughts are with his loved ones at this devastating time. His death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed onto HM Coroner in due course." Rawtenstall Cemetery currently holds 21,000 burials across 17 acres, according to the local government website. The cemetery has a chapel which can seat around 40 people. The burial grounds cater for Catholic, Church of England, non-Conformist and Muslim funerals. The shocking news comes after two teenage boys were found dead on railway tracks with Joshua Myres named and pictured as the first teen in the double tragedy. The teens, both 16, were discovered near Poynton Station, close to Stockport, Greater Manchester. ‌ In May, Cheshire Police had issued an appeal to help trace Joshua, from Handforth, after he vanished and was believed to have made his way to Devon and Cornwall 200 miles away. The teen was found but went missing again for a day in June. Then on Thursday, Joshua and another teen were found dead near the station shortly before 10.30pm. The British Transport Police, who are leading the investigation, said their deaths are not being treated as suspicious. ‌ Railway lines were shutdown so medics could reach the teenagers, but sadly both boys were pronounced dead at the scene. Several services were affected by the closure including Avanti West Coast, Cross Country and Northern services - and trains didn't resume until around 6am on Friday. A passenger who got off a train at the station in Poyton on Friday told Manchester Evening News the double tragedy was "devastating", saying: "It's just devastating. I have teenage children myself, including a 16-year-old boy. It brings it so close to home." No further details surrounding the circumstances of what police suspect happened have been revealed. A BTP spokesperson said: "Officers were called at around 10.10pm (on July 3rd) to reports of a casualty on the tracks near Poynton railway station. "Officers attended with paramedics. Very sadly and despite the best efforts of paramedics two 16-year-old boys were both pronounced dead at the scene."

Steven Spielberg admits 'I had consistent nightmares' after directing Jaws

Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Acclaimed director Steven Spielberg cemented his status with the iconic film Jaws, but the experience left him shaken. To mark the 50th anniversary of the pioneering summer blockbuster, National Geographic is set to premiere the documentary Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story on July 11. In this introspective film, Spielberg takes viewers on a behind-the-scenes journey through the making of Jaws, utilising archival footage and personal anecdotes to recount the trials and tribulations of his career-defining project. The National Geographic documentary also features interviews with original cast members, including Lorraine Gary (Ellen Brody), Carl Gottlieb (Meadows), Jeffrey Kramer (Hendricks), and Oscar-winning composer John Williams. Despite Jaws' enduring impact on cinema, its production was marred by numerous issues. The mechanical shark frequently malfunctioned, and filming on open water proved far more challenging than expected, reports the Mirror US. (Image: Getty Images) These setbacks resulted in significant delays and budget overruns, leading Spielberg to fear that Jaws would be his final film. "It was logistically the most difficult movie I think I'll ever make," he reveals in the documentary. However, the stress didn't dissipate once filming wrapped. For years after, the renowned filmmaker was plagued by nightmares about the arduous experience. "The success was fantastic but it didn't stop the nightmares," he admits. "It didn't stop me waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat where the sheets would be soaking wet. We didn't have the word PTSD in those days. "And I had consistent nightmares about directing Jaws for years afterwards. I was still on the movie and the film was never ending." The 78-year-old star even began to slip away from his crew to release his emotions. (Image: National Geographic) He discloses: "When they brought one of the boats all the way back from Martha's Vineyard and shipped the boat, the Orca, to the Universal back lot and put it in the water right next to the Jaws ride. "I used to get in my electric cart without telling anybody, and I would sneak behind the trams, nobody could see me, and I'd just sneak on board the boat and I would sit in the cabin in that little leather red booth and I would just sit there and sometimes cry." He adds: "And I had nothing to cry about. The film was this phenomenon and I'm sitting here shedding tears, because I'm not able to divest myself of the experience. "The boat helped me to begin to forget. That Orca was my therapeutic companion for several years after Jaws came out." Elsewhere in the documentary, the director concedes that although its production was traumatising, he owes everything to Jaws. (Image: Hulton Archive) The thriller later scooped four Academy Award nominations, winning the Best Original Score, Best Film Editing and Best Sound prizes. Despite being nominated for the prestigious Best Picture award, it was Milos Forman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest that took home the prize. While Spielberg's fans continue to debate whether he should have won the Oscar, the director himself concurs with the Academy's choice. "Oh yeah, I would've voted for One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest over Jaws for Best Picture, I would've done that," he admits. Jaws, based on Peter Benchley's 1974 novel of the same title, tells the thrilling tale of a police chief, shark hunter and marine biologist who join forces to hunt down a deadly shark terrorising their small seaside town. Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story premieres Friday 11th July at 8pm on National Geographic and streams the same day on Disney+
