Jets CB Thinks He Can Fluster Steelers' DK Metcalf
There is certainly not a lack of storylines for the Pittsburgh Steelers' Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets, and now yet another player has added one.
Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner claims he knows how to fluster Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf.
'Me and DK don't even talk,' Gardner said on Up & Adams. 'When he gets mad about something, he wants to block you hella hard. That's his thing. I feel like I can get to him, but that's how he takes his anger out.'
Metcalf has had a tendency to draw some penalties throughout his NFL career. With Gardner looking to do just that to begin the season, Metcalf will have to be extra aware.
However, Gardner will also have to be aware of the athlete Metcalf is. The 6-foot-4, 229-pound wide receiver has never had less than 900 receiving yards and five touchdowns in a season.
Gardner doesn't lack any respect for the Steelers' new weapon, though.
'If he gets mad, he wants to go block somebody hella hard, or when he got the ball, he wants to try to run somebody over,' he said. 'I respect that.'
Only time will tell who will get the better of the other in the matchup, but that is just one of many headlines entering the game.
The most notable is, of course, quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Justin Fields facing their former teams. Jets pass rusher Will McDonald IV also had some words for Rodgers with the countdown on.
Metcalf has recorded 438 catches for 6,324 yards and 48 touchdowns in his six-year NFL career.

Steelers inquired about potential Terry McLaurin trade, but one holdup remains, per report
The Terry McLaurin to Pittsburgh rumors are heating up — as a new report has indicated the Steelers have reached out to the Washington Commanders about a possible trade. According to DK Pittsburgh Sports' Chris Halicke, sources say Steelers GM Omar Khan reached out to the Washington Commanders to inquire about McLaurin's availability — but financial obligations may hold up a deal. "In reaching out to the Commanders, the Steelers learned that McLaurin not only wants to be paid like a true No. 1 receiver, which is expected, he wants to be a true No. 1 receiver on whatever team he plays on in 2025 and beyond," Halicke wrote. "With the Steelers having DK Metcalf signed to a five-year, $150 million contract, they've committed to him as their No. 1 receiver." ESPN's Adam Schefter previously echoed a similar sentiment — revealing on The Pat McAfee Show that McLaurin wants to surpass Metcalf's $33 million per season. Still, Khan's inquiry is an exciting development — one that should come as no surprise considering the blockbuster moves made by Pittsburgh this offseason. Jets' training camp scrimmage devolves into sloppy mess
The Jets' green and white scrimmage — the closest they've gotten to a game situation this training camp — looked and sounded eerily similar to too many real games in recent years. A floundering offense. Penalty after penalty. Groans from the fans. Advertisement They scrimmaged — with full tackling other than on the quarterback — for the majority of Saturday's practice. And it was their sloppiest showing since camp started. They committed 12 penalties, the vast majority of which came on offense. A plethora of them were pre-snap flags as well. The penalties stalled multiple offensive drives. 3 Jets quarterback Justin Fields (7) throws a pass during practice at training camp in Florham Park, NJ. Bill Kostroun/New York Post 'There were a lot of things we gotta clean up,' head coach Aaron Glenn said after practice. 'The one thing that I'm sure everybody saw were the penalties. I'm glad we had the refs out there, because that's one thing we want to hit. We want to make sure we hit those hard. I want them to ref it just like it was a game. I thought they did a good job with that. Advertisement 'There's no excuses, our players understand that. We know penalties, they're discipline issues. We gotta make sure we're more disciplined in that aspect on both sides of the ball. We will get those cleaned up, I promise you that, but there's a lot of work to do.' The Jets led the NFL in both penalty yardage and total penalties committed last year. Glenn has preached discipline endlessly and made cutting down on flags his No. 1 point of emphasis since camp started. But his messaging has not yet translated into actual, on-field results. Advertisement 'We continue to emphasize it, and then we watch it as a group and we try to understand exactly — why did it happen? Some of the holding calls, those can be technical issues,' Glenn said. 'As a coach, we try to fix those issues. Those are competitive penalties, for the most part. I'm not saying they're OK, I'm not, but the thing is we have to coach the technique on that to make sure those don't happen again. And our players have to understand that. 3 The Jets had a sloppy day at camp on Saturday. Bill Kostroun/New York Post 'We had some great runs on a number of those penalties, and it doesn't matter now, because they bring them back. We gotta do a good job of coaching, and the players gotta do a good job of accepting the coaching and going out there and executing.' For his own part, quarterback Justin Fields struggled mightily. He completed just 2 of 10 passes during the scrimmage. A delay-of-game penalty also fell on his shoulders. The running game was one silver lining. Fields ran for a touchdown. Breece Hall, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis all flashed at different points. 3 Jets coach Aaron Glenn speaks to the media after practice at training camp in Florham Park, NJ. Bill Kostroun/New York Post 'I will say this, and I want to make sure this is clear, I thought our running backs today did a hell of a job,' Glenn said. 'A hell of a job. And it's expected. … I expect a number of good things from those guys, and I want to make sure that those guys get praise for what they did today.' But solid running back play won't make up for so much dysfunction around them. Not even close. Saturday served as a bad case of déjà vu.

Isaiah Davis makes over-the-shoulder grab as stock keeps rising at Jets camp
Observations from Jets' training camp on Saturday. Slammy Davis Isaiah Davis made a nice over-the-shoulder catch on a wheel route down the left sideline on a well-placed pass from Tyrod Taylor. Head coach Aaron Glenn said after practice, 'He is a guy that we have to make sure we get on the field as much as possible.'
