Two Killed, Six Wounded In LA After-Party Shooting; Police Investigation Underway
The identities of the deceased have not yet been fully released by police. Two people were killed and six others left injured in a shooting that occurred during an after-party in downtown Los Angeles overnight on Sunday. According to KTLA, the Los Angeles Police Department stated that the incident took place around 1 am on August 4. Authorities confirmed that the gunfire broke out near 14th Place and Griffith Avenue, an area reportedly hosting multiple parties at the time. Police had already patrolled the location earlier in the evening, around 11 pm, after observing an individual entering an unauthorised gathering. The LAPD said they cleared out the event, which had more than 50 people present. During that sweep, one attendee was arrested for carrying a firearm. Despite this intervention, officers were called back to the same venue following a radio alert about shots being fired. When they arrived, they found that eight individuals had been struck by gunfire. Two victims succumbed to their injuries, while six others were left wounded. One of the surviving victims is in critical condition, according to an LAPD spokesperson speaking with KTLA 5. 'It was pretty clear and loud… You knew that if those bullets landed in somebody, that they weren't walking away from the situation," said local resident Tyrone Laney in an interview with the Los Angeles Times. The identities of the deceased have not yet been fully released by police. However, officials confirmed that the victims included a man and a 52-year-old woman. One died at the scene, while the other was pronounced dead after being transported to the hospital. Some of the injured victims were admitted to California Hospital Medical Center for treatment. One of the victims has been identified as 29-year-old Gregory Derisso, according to his father, Judner Derisso. He described Gregory as a dedicated music producer and the father of three young children, all under the age of five. As reported by the Los Angeles Times, the party was promoted online as an 'unofficial after-party" for the Hard Summer festival and featured house and techno music. An Instagram post advertising the event reportedly listed the names of DJs scheduled to perform. No arrests have been made so far. Investigators are still working to determine a motive for the shooting. Get breaking news, in-depth analysis, and expert perspectives on everything from geopolitics to diplomacy and global trends. Train firing case: Trial resumes against sacked RPF constable after five months
Agency: PTI Last Updated: Mumbai, Aug 4 (PTI) After a five-month gap, the trial against sacked RPF constable Chetansinh Chaudhary, accused of shooting dead four people on a moving express train in 2023, recommenced on Monday, with a sessions court deeming the accused mentally fit. Chaudhary had earlier claimed that he was mentally unfit to stand trial. The sessions court on Monday resumed trial with the deposition of the sixth witness, a former RPF head constable, in the case. On July 31, 2023, Chaudhary allegedly shot dead four persons — three passengers and one of his senior colleagues, an RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector, Tikaram Meena — on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express near Palghar station in Maharashtra. Eyewitness and dismissed RPF head constable Narendra Parmar (60) told the court that one of the victims, Asghar Shaikh, pleaded for mercy with Chaudhary moments before he was shot twice in the chest in S6 compartment of the Jaipur-Mumbai Superfast Express in 2023. 'Shaikh said Mai aam mulazim hoon. Main bhi bhagwan ko manta hoon'¦ Bhagwan and Allah ek hai'¦" (I am just an ordinary employee. I also believe in God. God and Allah are one)", Parmar said. Parmar was dismissed along with RPF constable Amey Acharya for failure to discharge their duties. Parmar told the court that Chaudhary was visibly stressed. He wanted to stop Chaudhary but feared that the attempt to restrain him could result in more passengers getting shot. Chaudhary has been charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder), 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc) and others, as well as relevant provisions of the Railways Act. Manipur to bolster policing with new Secretariat Police Stn
Imphal: In a bid to bolster effective policing, Manipur govt has approved the establishment of a new Secretariat Police Station at Mantripukhri and creation of 12 new sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) posts in both new and existing districts. According to a press communique issued here on Sunday night, the decision came after a proposal by Manipur Police Department, to enhance a strategic approach to improving security infrastructure amid growing administrative and operational demands especially with the imminent relocation of the state civil secretariat and police headquarters to Mantripukhri. The upcoming secretariat police station will cater not only to the secretariat and police headquarters, but also to several high-value institutions in the area, including the Manipur High Court, the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), and the Forest Office Complex. "The establishment of this police station is aimed at providing comprehensive law enforcement coverage in the new capital complex," a senior police officer said. A new SDPO (New Capital Complex) post has been approved under Imphal East district to oversee both the proposed Secretariat Police Station and the existing Heingang Police Station, thereby ensuring seamless command, improved coordination and faster response mechanisms to law-and-order situations. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The creation of 11 additional SDPO posts across Manipur targets longstanding structural gaps in police supervision, particularly in newly created districts where only one SDPO post was previously sanctioned. The expansion comes as a timely response to mounting administrative challenges, insufficient crime investigation oversight, and increasing security demands in border and hill districts. Each SDPO post has been strategically mapped to key subdivisions to ensure tighter supervision, more accessible policing, and better public service delivery in both remote and sensitive regions.
